Thanks for this! Just a suggestion, it would be great that you add the sound that you are describing when you say it. Example: when you say staccato, add a staccato strings sound. Cheers!

Very nice and useful info, but I thought this was about habits. Let me explain, a habit is "a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up" (Oxford Languages), in other words, a habit is a frequent and recurrent action that wouldn't have a defined end by itself. For example, being fit is not a habit, getting fit is the result of the habit of exercising 1 hour everyday. So having, knowing or learning something are not exactly a habits. Having a system is not a habit, compose with your system everyday for X amount of hours would be; know your cliches is not a habit, analysing 1 track of film music everyday would be; learn film scoring is kind of the closest one, but yet something like study/read about film scoring every day for X amount of hours or something among those lines would be better, otherwise is just a goal, not a habit. That being said, interesting information.

One more thing I learned recently is to listen very well to the temp track and to take it very seriously. Very sad the recent film maker I worked with really wanted me to sound exactly like the temp. I dicided not to work with him, I don't to do a copy paste in my work.

A practical thing you can do is open a blank project in your DAW and imagine an emotion or scene, and compose something for that. Also, watch and listen to films and listen carefully to what the music is doing.

If you give it all away, no one will listen for more or by more. You will find many instructional (all the secrets you need to know) type videos on KZread are simply teasers to sell something. That's why he jumps from #1, to #2, to #3 without really telling you how to specifically do anything. Over time you should flesh out all things not useful, winnow it down to actual good teachers and stay with them.

Talking about your compositions for Netflix, Amazon, etc., with a jaded air does not make you a better professional. Talking fast with a lot of noise, either. Fortunately, there are more serious KZread channels.

but that he composed for NEtflix yes makes him a better professional. Thats he explains film scoring techniques in a clear theory makes him yes a better youtuber, and serious about cinema. Quote there ONE youtube channel teaching film scoring techniques , and tell me if it is not similar. He talks fast because he is advertising basically the juice of his techniques, why do you want free easy education . It might be annoying, but does not deserve hostility. If i were Marc i would even not leave the video available for people like you so long
