ABOUT AYLA TESLER-MABE
Ayla has been making waves in the world of guitar playing as a professional guitarist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and composer, since the early age of 14. After only been playing for two years, her first KZread video (a rendition of John Mayall’s “Hideaway”) put her on the map and kickstarted her music career. She has since been featured in Rolling Stone magazine, become a member of both the Ernie Ball and Fender family of artists, and earned various Berklee College of Music scholarships. Musically, Ayla finds great pleasure in exploring the numerous avenues available to her through various styles of music, as seen through her work with Calpurnia and Ludic.

Thanks Ayla. I have been playing for 57 years. Grew up outside Detroit, The ROCK and ROLL Capital. I have lived outside Nashville for the last 32 years. I have seen JIMI 6 times. Led Z. 8 times Jethro Tull, ect, ect. I have spent my life always with a guitar close by. Following the greats and supporting them. I have been very blessed to have had the privilege to witness the greatest years of Rock and Soul. I know this era is important to you and I want to thank you for keeping it alive in your own way. I also want to thank the YOU-TUBE Guitar community. There are a lot of hard working young people out there. Its a Wonderful thing that the Guitar is still KING

I’m still very new, 3 weeks in, but one thing I’ve noticed with the basic chords was I practiced transitioning through them in the same order I learned them. It became easier and I thought I had them down. That was until I picked up songs that required different chord progressions. So I learned them D-A-E… then I get a song that’s A-E-D. So going back and working on chords in different orders is helping me right now.

First off, I congratulate you on your tutorials. Really well done! As a guitar teacher myself and a professional musician for over 50 years, I really enjoy your presentation, content, and execution. Secondly, I’ve always felt that bringing up the CAGED system and Cycle of Fifths, etc., actually scares people. It can be confusing, even though the information is not really difficult in itself. The way you use CAGED as a practice and basic learning tool makes sense to me and I’m gonna steal it! Thirdly, I think the major pentatonic scale (and the major scale, in general) gets much less attention than it should. After all, the diatonic major scale is the building block of Western Music, and the major pentatonic scale is the skeleton of it. My friend Justin, a Phd in classical composition, says the greatest scale of all is the minor pentatonic because it sounds good with anything! And, its skeleton is really the shape of both minor AND major pentatonics. Keep up the good work; you’ll have many, many followers in short order.

I have to say that of all the guitar teachers out there, your method and manner are so approachable and make it easy to understand. I think you made a great point about reciting the intervals as you play. The reason for that is once you know the patterns and relationships (i.e., the location of the 4 relative to the root was a big aha moment for me), it truly makes it easier to navigate. Once you know those intervals and you know how the scales and modes are really subtle variations of the major scale, man... all I can say is this: it's 160 miles to Chicago. We have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes; it's dark; and we're wearing sunglasses. HIT IT! I think the first thing I ever saw. was the cover of "since I've been Loving You," and I knew right there that you were a great player. I'm so grateful you share your knowledge and talent!

I taught my self the root notes on the E and A strings very early in my chord learning process because of neccessity. I was struggling with the open C chord so I used a bar instead. That opened up the fret board because I then had every note in only two bar fingering shapes. Trick was understanding and locking in this fundamental A_BC_D_EF_G (_ means a fret between natural notes) I mapped G and A on the E string and C and D on the A string because these fall on the dot frets... so easy to remember. Then using the fundamental, one can find any note/chord including sharps and flats when indicated. Hope that helps another learner.

As a less than one month beginner I have been working on the A minor pentatonic and I am seeing a number of patterns for mostly natural notes and where one note is in relation to another both up and down the neck as well as up and down the strings....B and C are right next to each other on fretboard....same with E and F, A+3 frets is a C, E+ 3 frets is a G, all other natural notes are just 2 frets away from each other. D is always above G, A is always above D, etc except when the #2(B string) is involved and then it shifts up the neck, G is above(Higher string number) and catty-corner to a C unless B string is involved for the C......and a number of others. So if I know which note I am pressing down on, I have a good frame of reference for a number of notes around that fret location. Still a work in progress for me.

Learning barre chords helped me figure out songs so much easier than open chords. It allows you to see and hear intervals so much easier.

the greatest part of you videos is that they are easy to understand and interactive. i'm sure that you've had dozens of people pulling out their guitars out from under the bed and dusting them off to have another go at playing again.
