Resources for learning Samoan:
(This Channel) / samoanlanguagechannel
(How I learned) "Samoan for Missionaries" scholarsarchive.byu.edu/etd/4...
Not everything will be applicable to you but it is by far the most comprehensive material I have found to learn Samoan.
(Peace-Corps Manuals) www.livelingua.com/project/pe...
I can't speak for this website because I myself have not spent any significant time in the two Samoan eBooks available. I did skim through quickly through both eBooks and they look to be accurate. It seems to be a beginner to the intermediate-level instructional tool.

This is my pa’ia tusi (bible) to learning the Samoan language. I come here first do a few classes then I search for other teachings. But always come here first Fa’afetai. And I am a Māori from New Zealand Auckland too 👍🏽
Thank you for this. My mom is Samoan and my dad is from the Virgin Islands. My mom was fluent in the Samoan language. I always wanted to learn the language but never got the chance and this is great.
I love how you have made a point on how to teach us not to offend with wrong word... great resource
Colin the line graph method for tone is awesome.
Cheers Collin, much appreciated .
Thank you! I appreciate this so much, I am still learning and have a long ways to go. This will help me immensely. Fa’afetai lava!!

@@SamoanLanguageChannel Thank you so much Collin!
I love to learn different languages just in case I take vacation
In Greek we also use having good health as a greetink. Modern Americans may have forgotten how to greet people! I have started to follow those lessons, and from the start the lack of person in verbs made it difficult to me a little. I have been accustomed to English, German and other European languages where the verb has always the personal pronoun near it. But in many Asian languages this is not the case. So you must infer from the context. That requires practice. Hawaiian is much more like a European language where the syntax is more or less where it simple and straight, but here the syntax is a little awkward and open to interpretation. Also are the polite word still used, or are they going opsolete now?

stefanos tokatlidis polite words are still used very commonly. Especially with people you don’t know. As you get to know that person than polite words aren’t used quite as much.

Quick question what is the intended pace for each chapter ?

Falaniko Suitonu that’s a tough question. That depends on the investment of time you put in, how consistent you are, and your background. I stopped making videos because there wasn’t very many people reaching chapters 4 & 5 (I probably would have only made 2 maybe 3 more chapters anyways). More specifically, if you have a Samoan language background, and you can understand Samoan, I would imagine you could get through one chapter in a couple of weeks. If you don’t have a Samoan language background, and you put it an hour a day, I could see you mastering a chapter in a month or two (some chapters are more complex than others). Meaning you watch and review parts of the lesson you need help with most and practice what you learn. Language learning is difficult because you are starting at square one and you often need to review concepts and definitions multiple times to truly grasp the concept.

Yes it takes about a month to learn a grammatical point...that is the English language for beginners however it would take a few weeks if you have some background in Sa.
What book do you recommend I buy?

Big L sorry for the delayed response. Honestly there isn’t a lot of literature to learn Samoan. If you’re a beginner you might look into Gagana Samoa. It has about 30 basic lessons along with a set of audio files you can download from the front cover of the book. If you want to continue along with my course you can access all 5 chapters here: kzread.info/dron/yA6PCSXl66I_hSwMctnzQw.html. You can also access each word doc for the lessons here: drive.google.com/drive/mobile/folders/0B0qlEt_gI72kQlRoZ1R6eFdXd28/0B0qlEt_gI72kZ0tjRWNBQllTam8?sort=13&direction=a.

Hello Collin! I really enjoyed using the chapters in the folder that you created but it says that you threw it in your trash and I don't have access to them anymore. Is there a way if I can have access to them? Like I said I really enjoyed using it. Please let me know, thank you!
