Another army I try to steer newer players away from is JSA. They look cool, and who doesn't want to play space ninja, but they can be a difficult army to learn infinity with. They have limited specialists, their midfielders (while powerful) are expensive, and it can be difficult to strike the right balance between sneaky ninjas and resilient heavy hitters. JSA can be a strong fun army, but is not the most intuitive, and can take a while to get the hang of.

Thanks as always DFocke! Yea, I was just talking about this. I think JSA is unintuitive. SP plays how you’d expect JSA to play. You’ve got the humble myrmidon, CC22 MA3 Mim-6 Smoke, who’s what the ninja should be. You’ve got the playstyle of delivering a massive CC threat unit to just gloriously defeat enemies in their DZ. Yeah, just buy JSA models but use SP rules 😂

I think JSA is a lot less of a finesse army in N4 than it was in N3. It can actually stand up and shoot more now than it could but using those assasin units like Shinobu, Oniwaban and Ninja take some skill and practice to get the best of because they are glass canons.

Few years ago I listened some similar podcast and picked MO- space knights as a main and first faction. Iwas heavily frustrated about that... Thats why: 1 almost most important thing in a list building is to get maximum number of orders (15 in a normal game). In military orders you can do that only if you take 1 wound lite infantry and skirmishers + 1-3 tough units which are hackable and you have almost no hacking defence. After fireteam update you do not get any composition bonuses with your heavy guys because pure fireteams can not fit 300pt and cheap teutons can not form fireteam... Also you have no way of getting into close combat (no smoke and no camo)... So after 3 years of stuggling in tournaments against combines and nomads i quit MO. Now I proxy acontecemento, it is much more comfortable to build lists and gameplay wise and i finaly started wining some games, but army is out of print... 😢😢😢 So pick Morats and dont listen further! 😂 P.s.: sorry for a long text

Np Voldemort! Thanks for contributing! Dek and I were actually on the fence about this topic, and discussed it with our group. It’s true that Trinitarians and Croziers are critical to the success of piloting this army, but we ultimately wanted to keep the Space Marine option. Also, one thing we didn’t quite land on was where to balance being able to start the army and learn N4 core rules VS an army that easily transitions into being competitive. That’s a discussion with a lot of space to play. Thanks for the long text Tommy!

Easy to learn not too many rules, forgiveness, good design. Yep this guy teaches wargames. You are spot on. Only things I think you are missing based on my experience of getting into the game not long back are: #1 that the faction needs to be moderately powerful, nothing is worse for a newbie than constantly losing (which you will be quite a bit anyway purely by not knowing the rules and strategy too well but the last thing you need is a poor army compounding that) and #2 that the army is easy enough to attain, that it's not out of print or its better units are out of print or that its super expensive to collect due to the most fun parts of its force needing several expensive kits etc. Ideally what you want is to be able to buy one of the action pack-type boxes or a starter box and have near on a usable list or at least half one, not like 1 or 2 good units and the rest are kinda meh(I'm looking at you Bakunin Observation pack).

Just found you guys, enjoyed the video and congrats on winning the Krug. Been playing infinity for roughly 9 years. Most of your assessments are spot on, but I’ll echo what another commenter said about MO. They are cool, they are exciting, but they are very frustrating as a beginner Army because their design does not match their play style and their list building is very restricted. They don’t have a way to get into melee on their own terms, many of them suffer from frenzy, very expensive LT options, and lastly I’d say they tend to teach good basics in terms picking your ftf battles, but they do a very bad job at teaching players how to work around bad ftf since PanO as whole’s solution is throw the next big gun at the problem until you run out of big guns.

Thank you for this video! I’m looking at getting into the game. At the end, when you recommend against the French sectorial of Ariadna, it almost sounds like you lean in the side of recommending against the entire Faction for a new player. I was looking at the USARF and or also the TAC box looked like cool models for my tastes, but am curious if you think it’s too much for a new player in what sounds like already a tricky game? Or - was your recommendation mostly just against the OOP French faction?

I find another decent army for beginners to start with is Invincible Army, similar to MO where you can fill out the bulk of your force with high armor multi-wound models and powerful fireteam builds which would make them fairly forgiving. They also have access to free order generation like NCO and Tactical Awareness which can help when the opponent your strips off 2 regular orders if you are going first.

Ugh... so frustrated by this game right now Dek.... I really love the idea of Infinity and want to get into it. Really got into your channel when I jumped into Malifaux and got interested by Infinity after seeing you hype it up and some friends who like it but.... JESUS what a task. The game - just buying for it is a total fucking nightmare. Code One or Main Game - Where to start? - Yes. Factions where do I start and how do I collect? - Yes. ok... Where can I buy it? The company has an online store... that cost 35 pounds ontop of the price to ship it.... paying full retail and insane shipping? - feel like a Karen about this one but who buys games this way... Whales? (looks at the online store) - How is this better than other games... nobody buys games from GW directly cause the pricing sucks.. CB's pricing is like garbage but what hurts more is nearly very few to no online retails carry any stuff so if you want to get into the game you kind of get stock defaulted into playing what they have. When no stores carry getting started boxes for a game it basically tell you the game is either dead or you wont ever enjoy collecting it without shelling out serious money. Really love the designs and want to love the game but holy shit... And that's excluding the nightmare of the online forums I've seen or the lack of any relevant content on this game in youtube / the internet all together... I basically just find meme videos of marvel infinity wars are ratioed higher than anything from this game. and literally your videos on it are basically the only content within 2024.. a most videos are from 2018 - 2022.. It also doesn't help that the company has so much negative sentiment from it its own community online. specially right now while they are ignoring their own community so its a battle for game stans versus annoyed people whos factions are dead without rules updates. (read the gem of Queens Gambit quitting the game post in the forum for example) Am I buying into a sinking ship or is there really a game here somewhere? The game feels like a niche of a niche of a niche in terms of visibility, support and collecting.. kind of burnt out on gw besides kill team but I mean... like at least I can buy It everywhere... Shit even Malifaux feels so much more supported.

For getting all the toys and be space wizards: Nomads; you will NEVER have all the models because you will get new troops every year, guaranteed... Only minus, a lot of the fun here comes from troop combos. Until the Zellenkrieger box, Corregidor had some toys cheaper than the other two sectorials, but now Bakunin gets its own H+ under 20pts and Tunguska its own brand of morlocks, making all Nomad options have cheap smoke, good MSV2 for the combo, decent fireteams, great heroes, and Corregidor is again in the doghouse for Lt options (ironicaly, considering it's the faction of mercenaries for the other two ships, and others). For greatest forgiveness at plays: Aleph, most troops are robust, or capable of performing 2-3 things decently, or both. Only minus, you pay premium, and the faction is considered "broken" (funny thing, how this year's Interplanetario had missions greatly favouring the ASS and how Nomads won instead...). Also, OSS hasn't been looked at since launch, making it very meh. For a different take, Combined Army can devastate the opponent with the EI's Aspects (Avatar, Anathematic, and Charontid, with the old Skiavoros being a lower profile option currently without miniature) and deploy Speculo Killers, with great support options for those pieces. Shasvastii is a great camo spam faction, Morat a great assault faction, and Onyx is... close to the freezer, let's hope we get the UR or "assimilated Tohaa" sectorial instead (now seriously, it mostly was about Unidron fireteam and a TAG Haris, but considering costs, go vanilla). Haqquislam has several playstyle options, but it's quite particular and requires even more effort that the other three; PanO has problems (some small, somre really big) at everything that is not shooting with its apex predator, specially things requiring WP rolls, and Yu Jing is the designated rival that will never get close to PanO and the target of so many jokes from even the company... Their Heavy Infantry models, however, are some of my favourite, and can get a lot of use in P&P RPGs (The Expanse, Eclipse Phase, Traveller, even the cyberpunk ones can get mileage, since they look the part for Arasaka or Renraku dudes without going into explicitely-thousand years ago- in spaaaaace). Ariadna is also great aside from kosmoflot for other games with special ops models from the late phases of the Cold War to the next 20 years or so. O12 is PanO with some things that would not be out of place in Aleph or Nomads, but their cost was lowered by downing PH and WP, so it can be really tricky, specially when facing EM grenades, with most units vulnerable to EM having a PH of 12-13 and WP around 13 (so, dodge 50%, and if you fail, roll 2 BTS/2 tests or go into ISOlated and IMMovilized... with a -12 to Reset, good luck rolling ones), so it can also be tricky.
