I myself use a Shure VP83F Lenshopper and bang for buck it is a pretty awesome shotgun mic for what I use it for. Now just to upgrade the DSLR to something mirrorless....

Totally agree, the «music really low in the background» trick to «fill out» the audio a bit if the speech track isn’t great is super useful - anyone hating on that little trick just have other problems in their life they need to deal with asap ;) Also, it’s great for creating a casual or energetic vibe, loungey cafe hangout feeling or just smoothing things out, especially if cutting a little bit of frequencies in the area where speech frequencies are most prominent :)

In the semi budget category there is the Shure MV7 you recommend and the Elgato Wave 3. Wondering which sounds better. Shure M7db is often considered the king of mics with its top mic. Wondering how it does on its mid-tier MV7 USB vs Elagato Wave 3?

Helpful advice as always with a few new things to consider! It's funny how we acquire a collection of microphones. They almost seem to breed.

I like the speech enhancement feature, but feel I have to turn it way down to keep the voice from sounding too robotic.

FYI the Sure SM7s sounds nasal. As if you're holding your nose and speaking. People buy them because they copy buy them. If you want true clean real high end quality go for the best Mic on the market. It's the world famous RE20 by Electro-Voice. But you need an interface. A Scarlett 2i2 is my suggestion. Just believe me. You'll throw away that Sure SM7db. Thank me later.
