3 Easy Steps in case of an FT-991A reset

When you first turn on your rig, fresh out of the box, you'll be prompted to set your callsign, your GPS location, and the Time and Date. If you have to do a reset on your rig, you'll need to set these things again. This video shows how to do that with a few of my typical suggestions and recommendation (your mileage may vary) along the way.

    Thank you. You seem to have a great knowledge base for the FT-991. FT991 using Vara software HF Winlink. When transmitting using VARA, the TX frequency is actually about 100 Hz (or more) lower from where it should be. And the Winlink will not synch/connect. I've read everything I can find (and tried) everything.I can think of. There are three (3) other operators within the local Ham group who have the exact same issue and they all have abandoned the FT991 internal sound card and switched over to the Signallink. Different HF RX stations (AK/WA/HI) exhibit the same issue. I've talked directly to the HF Winink station operators so I know its the FT-991 sound card. Generally speaking, i'd like to know more about how to diagnose issues like this. Spectrum analyzer ? and of course... a possible solution. Maybe do a complete HF Winlink video.

    I've not used Winlink, though I looked at it several years ago. Not sure why the sound card would shift, but will take a look at the settings and play with it a bit, but for now, if a SignaLink would resolve your problem... 73 de Tom, ND3N

    Am curious about fusion. Have heard the name more than what it is. I assume it is a digital mode? Anyway, I just got my 991a and am currently just a technician and am working on my general study. July 14th I take the test and so far I feel pretty confident I will pass. Am studying the new questions and also have done the old ones too. Thanks for your videos as they do help. 73 N6ZKI

    If it helps it is also known as C4FM which is the mode you’ll chose to work with it. Fusion is because you can set your 991A to select the C4FM or FM, depending on what mode is being received. It is a VHF/UHF mode.

    I’ve had the same problem. Make sure your virtual USB serial ports are set up and connected, using the same data rates out of the rig and into your computer. See if that clears things up…. 73 devTom, ND3N

    I would like to give hams that I am contacting their S level, but my 991A only shows a solid S level and does not show the S level of the station I am talking to. It does this no mater what meter setting I select. Is there a way to just reset the S meter so it shows active S levels, or do I need to do a complete Radio reset?

    Try turning down your RF Gain (counter clockwise)

  • @dojmike

    @dojmike

    Жыл бұрын

    @@ND3N I tried that and the S meter pegs up to +60db (in the red zone) when I turn counter clockwise. However, when I turn the RF Gain all the way up (clockwise) the meter goes down and starts to behave like a proper S meter. Is my RF Gain knob acting backwards? I should note that my 991A is the $300 Yaesu upgrade from the 991. Maybe that is the problem and maybe I just need to reset the radio. Also, there is one firmware upgrade available from my current version. Do you recommend the latest 991A firmware? Thanks for the help. Mike (N6MSC).

    I use an Astron Solid State PS, rated at 50A. You can probably get away with a 25A PS, but would advise something rated a little higher, like 35W. Remember that the ratings given are MAX momentary levels, and the constant rating is always lower. A little pad is never a bad thing... hi hi - 73 de Tom, ND3N
