    Hey this is one of my first video of yours that I've watched. I'm not a teacher in anyway but I've always wanted to teach my little cousins new things that I would have loved at their age but never really known how, so now that I'm actually able to explain and teach them these things makes me happy and just want to say thank you for that. :)

    Hi! I'm not very talented in teaching, but having teaching formatted like this somehow made it very easy to follow. And I tried! And I'm calling it a success, because although there is some practice to be done here and there, this method just made me so happy that I was able to teach my younger siblings!!!!! (whether it being in their school assignments or in other activities)!!! Sometimes we forget that we can't learn something without seeing it happening and without being properly guided (I'm part of that we). But "I do, We do, You do" is so easy to remember, that when a mistake is made, and they want to get better, I know what stage to get back to! Thank you so much for this video!!! You, Sir, are a very good teacher

    Very nice! I've had many good teachers but I can't say I'm especially good at teaching. Great job! I like how you hit the title perfectly! Only hard part about a video like this would be putting a lot of emphasis on the tags you use.

    Thanks for the feedback! Good teachers will help make the world a better place. I tried to be clear and concise as much as possible without any click bait lol. Yeah, the tags are pretty basic. This video is going to actually be linked to a future video I'm working on!

    Hi Malvyn, I enjoyed this video. Curious how you might adjust the thinking if you were preparing a self-paced video lesson to a young adult.

    Thank you for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I would frontload what the goal of the video is and then I would provide what the ending product for the video lesson would look like. (I DO) Then I would make sure to explain the information clearly and move in a purposeful way so they can learn along without having to pause the video so much. At a pace where pausing is minimal and they can pause during the video without having to scrub backwards too much. (WE DO) I would provide simple examples, e.g., metaphors or similies. The YOU DO would be like if you wanted them to submit something to you. Depending on the content. Make sure anything you want them to learn or copy is clearly seen too!

    Hey Malvyn! Great video! I do have one question though, and it is quite critical. If a child were to have an outburst and try to challenge your authority, how do you crush his rebellion?

  • @MalvynB

    @MalvynB

    Жыл бұрын

    Without knowing the child it'll be difficult giving accurate advice on how to handle it. But for any general situation, I would make sure to keep my calm and take a second to try to understand their perspective. Instead of crushing it, consider think about redirecting that outburst. Students tend to have their reasons why they do certain things. Sometimes the reasons are the teachers doing. I always try to validate their feelings first and then get them to understand me. (If anything, always try this first) This is a good situation where tough love comes in. Be firm but loving. Ensuring that they know the difference between red and green choices are good too. Green choices represent decisions that are helpful and kind, red choices represent decisions we should stop and thinking about . I had a student the other day refuse to go back to his seat when I was covering for a teacher who was out. Luckily, I have a good relationship with this student. However, he was being a little too comfortable in front of his peers. I had to calmly remind him the first time that he needs to return to his seat and that it is not acceptable walk around. He listened but it didn't last long. He did it multiple times and I had to raise voice, I told him in front of the class (because they are watching too) that I'm raising my voice because I don't feel heard right now because of his actions. He got upset and stated that he was going to leave the class so I said "You can leave, but there will be red consequences when you walk out the door". I remind them that there are green consequences that occur if we all do out work first. He didn't walk out but kept trying to bring it up I gave him a silent look and continued teaching. This only works because after we work I give them some brain booster time, and it could range from a few minutes of choice activities, talking time, whole group activity, or whatever the class is into. This let's them know I keep my word whether a green consequence or red consequence. This helps develop trust and structure in class.

    Definitely seek first to understand the issue before reprimanding or yelling. If you have any specifics, I would be able to add more situational assistance if you want!

    Cool video man! Imo, sometimes you can skip the first step e.g. if you're teaching a toddler to brush their teeth. I found that you can "we do" it from the get go.

    Hello Verónica! I would say be consistent with you're procedures. It'll be tough in the beginning but it will build structure with your students. If you need them to raise their hand, make sure you respond to the ones that raise their hand and remind the ones who call out to raise their hand to get your attention. Ensure that the students know you care about them as people too. Because they won't care about what you know unless they know you care. Front loading what you're teaching is important too. Let them know what they are going to do for that lesson and the proposed outcome. Example: "Today we are going to be working on addition. We will learn to use pictures to help us add two different numbers" Make sure you know the lesson plan for the lesson so you're not reading out of a book the whole time too.

    Very true, those are some of the same examples that I use when talking about the 3 steps! Yeah, it's easy to get distracted with the bombardment of what it means to be an adult!
