3 Dune Challenge; Indiana Dunes State Park
The 3 Dune challenge is a fun hike for the whole family in Indiana Dunes State Park and offers an experience that is quite unique among hikes. The hike itself is not long coming in at a meagre 1.5 miles and only 552 feet of elevation gain. To the experienced hiker this would feel like a walk in the park if it weren't for the fact that you are hiking in deep sand! The Indiana summer heat makes the experience even more of a challenge. but the uniqueness of hiking through the woods barefoot on a trail of sand makes it worth it.

Having climbed a few sand dunes in my life, I know it is not easy. Looked like a great place. Thanks to politicians that look to the future we have places like this preserved for all to enjoy.

Would you try the 3 Dune Challenge?
I recommend Great Sand Dunes at minus 2 day. Sunny. Will be 4 to 10 by the time you are on them.
Kelso Junction Kelso Dunes CA. perfect distance perfect size. Go when cooler. Cima Road I 15. Or from Baker. The dunes are the only place in the west with no thorns. Walked in socks. Down and a ways back.

We have reservations here in a few weeks. We have lived in Michigan our whole lives so we have lots of experience climbing sand dunes and walking in the sand. Glad we'll be there when it's a little bit cooler! Looks like you guys had a fun trip.
