No need to be negative man, it doesn’t help. the truth is that A LOT of murder cases go cold because of bad police work, whether it’s a lack of training, biased investigations, handling of evidence, communication failures, bad police work is a major part of it. That’s why there is “cold case” detectives, their personal testimony often tells how bad police tactics led to alot of dead ends and killers going free and crucial evidence being lost or destroyed in major cases. I am so shocked that the people in Peggy Beck's case assumed a 16 year old died of natural causes, cleaned the scene, and neglected to call authorities for 8 hours! If their intent was to shield the other girls from the trauma of Peggy's death, they could have just left the scene as it was, without tampering with it, while the other campers were removed from the area in preparation for traveling back home, since it was the last day of camp. The camp counselors could have even called police immediately and passed off the response as Peggy being ill and needing an ambulance. The kids were busy getting ready to go home and wouldn't have thought anything really bad was happening. The way that was handled, with Claudia the counselor who was Peggy's tent mate, staying in the infirmary, leaving Peggy alone in the tent all night, cleaning up the entire scene, plus the killer (and possibly Claudia) being from Peggy's hometown makes me wonder if Claudia knew the guy and acted as an accomplice.

    1. It was the 60’s so people who find dead people definitely didn’t know how to treat a crime scene... 2. these were 16 year olds! Of course they didn’t know anything about preserving a crime scene...it’s not like they taught that to the public in the 60’s and in their minds it was best to wait until the children were gone to call the cops because they wanted to protect the children from trauma...which wasn’t the right thing to do, but back then and at that age they wouldn’t have known that, they did the best they could do at that age and time not to mention they were probably very scared and didn’t want to cause a scene...and I bet all the parents of those children appreciated the girls waited so their children weren’t traumatized for life, give them a little break... 3. times have changed so much, that we now get taught what to do if you find a dead body, so for us it’s sooo easy to watch videos like this and point out 1. “why didn’t the teenagers know not to clean up a crime scene?!?” In the 60’s this wasn’t taught, and they didn’t have shows like this to help them learn OR 2 “why the hell did it take them so long to get help” obviously they didn’t want chaos or panic happening around girls...there is a high chance OR 3. “why would they wait for the children to be gone?!? They could have said she was sick and needed an ambulance”

To me it's a pointless waste of time and manpower when the case is so old the perp is prob dead and the family has long since forgotten even when they finally figure out who did it. That 56yo case is a prime example. Better to focus on the cases where the perp is probably still alive rather than prob dead. Statues of limitations exist for a reason, mainly to prevent waste of taxpayer resources. 1/3 of murders they get away with it, such ancient cases are part of those.

I think it is a use of older terminology (I'm assuming the narrator' script is based on news reports of the time). Many cases were referred to as "cold" in that era if there were no clear suspects or physical evidence that could be used at the time such as fingerprints. Detectives worked the case but with no real direction. Like a bloodhound that has lost the scent they were following a "cold trail"; going in the direction that seemed likely but with no clear direction provided by the case. Your only hope of solving the case was a suspect confession.

Marcia Baker yes it happens way too much! Where I live in Baltimore they don’t do any investigating unless they know it’s murder! It doesn’t matter what you say begging them to look into something! My mother’s husband had been plotting to do something to her, he kept telling everyone she only had 5 years to live! Would try and say everyone was trying to poison her and he was worried mind you she didn’t leave her home or bed due to whatever he had done for a few years to her! Long story short my brother called in the am he told him she wasn’t feeling good and was laying on the side of the bed she was so tired she didn’t get into bed ummm ok, he called back after work she was still on the floor he stated he tried to wake her earlier but wouldn’t respond my brother went over to check and she want breathing called emergency when they get there the first thing he stated when they went in and asked what happened for her to get where she was he stated idk I never put my sugar pills in her pill bottle for her to mistaken my pill for hers! At the hospital they took us in a room and wanted to know who had been with her and what all happened this idiot states the exact same thing they of course were concerned as her diagnosis was a low sugar coma her sugar level dropped and they couldn’t figure out how it had dropped the way it did without any sugar problems! We begged them to investigate they refused to do anything! There was motive from her lawyer telling the police that he had brought her in and she was not herself her father had it when it passed nothing was to ever be left to him it was a pack they made in writing the lawyer had! My mother also would never had put any of the properties in his name even the ones she bought on her own not left by her father! She wanted to change the entire will and place her husband as the beneficiary to receive everything not one thing was to be left to either of her children or any grandchildren! They were married for 35 yrs and not once would she change the will no matter how he threatened her! She was too scared to ever leave him! Less than one week after her signing everything over to him was the day she went into a coma and eventually did pass and I know for a fact he killed her but the police not one would help!
