Brilliant video and frankly not enough of these videos looking at ETouring. I purchased an E-bike a few months ago from canyon - the SuV version. The intent was for it to carry me and the load for longer distances than I can get with my non- E tourer. I think the e-touring is definitely a new and brilliant thing and with the right fitness. 100 plus miles per day are really achievable. I’ve now bought a second battery. Very costly, but having 2 750 batteries are going to amount to longer days. Please do some more of these vids - they are really excellent and have a great mixture of geekery and exploration in equal measure Nice one 👍

They are horrible. Although the combo of long clothes, head net and repellent on hands stops them biting but still not pleasant. Worst thing about Scotland. I’m 70 and tested this bike last week as it has been on my list for about 18 months. It is solid, light enough, well equipped and a “no fuss” e-bike it seems and just what I am after. Hopefully I will get into long trail rides (I live in west Wales 😃) but have not ridden since my days in north Lancashire 40 years ago! This video seals the deal for me (you can quote me!). Thanks Thomas! Yeah I think I’ll do a follow up video at some point about my bikepacking kit. I definitely prefer panniers to saddlebags though as they are much easier to get in and out of and one of mine converts to a backpack. Fozclaz stuff is decent for good price, I had their trekking tent for a while. Some tents are specifically designed for bikepacking with a short pack size. But the only other tent I’ve used for bikepacking is the terranova laser compact 1. But it’s expensive.

Super. I’ve done that route so many times from Belfast on the ferry. 3 days about 460km and usually head up and do Arran and home via the mountains above glentrool. Those roads are great. Consider a gravel bike instead of a MTB next time and it’s a lot nicer transitioning between roads and gravel.

It's a great route! Can't believe I'd dismissed Galloway as being a bit boring! I'm not bike fit enough to do longer distance currently. Even with the assist, my current limit is about 100km a day max. I have a few bikes including a gravel and an E-gravel bike. I used the gravel bike for my Islay & Jura trip last year. I find this bike is a lot more fun on gravel, but it's not as fast on roads. I'll experiment a bit.

@@StephenJReid I was thinking more for your shoulders and spending longer hours on the bike. The flat bars can be a bit uncomfortable for longer distance - wonder could you put a set of gravel bars on your electric hybrid MTB?. Can you post your Strava route if possible - you went further east than I went from Glentrool presumably in past Kirroughtree and I’d love to do something like that myself next time (I’ve mountain biked there before). If you do again there are some epic roads out of Barr and New Barr further north - gravel and tarmac and scenery that’s spectacular

Back in the 1980's, a Swedish car manufacturer who will remain anonymous, introduced a car with an alarm system which and if it were a case that the car thief wasn't deterred by all alarms blazing, whoever was still at the wheel attempting to steal the vehicle, a huge bolt of around 20,000v would be delivered by ignition coil through the car seat. It was very effective. How about we patent that for the seat of a bike? Better still, would it work on midges?

Bike adds about £20 to the price but yeah would be nicer if the total cost was around £75. Although if I drove it costs £400 and fuel on top of that. So it’s cheap by comparison.

STEVEN you brighten up my life , loved the e-bike and the the way you edit your videos is great. Now that's enough of stroking your ego , but just wanted to know how much does that bike cost please and do you think it would be good idea to get another battery , not knowing anything about e-bikes at all , and yes I know you going to say it all depends on what your going to do, in other words how much is a battery or should I Go and look myself. Just that you have made up my mind to get a E-bike.and some camping. Thanks very much for all your work help and fun.ALAN, ⛺🍻💯👍

Hi Alan. That bike costs about £2300 so it's a quality bike but not as expensive as some really high end E-bikes. I have a friend who bought one after seeing mine and he loves it, it fits a gap in the market between proper mountain bikes and road bikes, you can do anything with this bike. I love it. I personally wouldn't touch a lot of the cheaper Chinese brands that you see being advertised and I've turned down loads of offers from them. Asides from differences in quality of components, this is significantly lighter (17kg) compared to a lot of cheap E-bikes with this kind of real range. Was offered a bike recently that weighs over 30kg! A lot of brands exaggerate the range capabilities of the bike as well. I actually bought one of Cairns other e-bikes myself before contacting them about working with them. Wanted to test for myself first. Also this is a UK brand so all customer service handled in UK. Spare batteries are expensive, £600 for the same capacity that this comes with. but that would extend my range to about 120miles. I am thinking about it for longer trips or for multi-day if I wouldn't have access to somewhere to charge. I think most people probably don't need a spare battery. Especially if you don't cycle regularly as even with the electrical assist, over 30miles and most people will be getting uncomfortable just sitting on the bike.

Thanks again for your great entertainment and one day soon I’ll be able to show people me on a bike. And camping. They won’t believe it. So Will keep it a secret just for us at the moment. Take care of yourself and see you soon Alan 💯👍

well there plenty of ebikes out there look into the features some new ones have options for ad d on battery so like new bosch smart have 750 power but also smaller 250 extra add on , if look at bike grants like well scotland transport had likes 4000 limit that was 4 years ago and can pay over years no fees , i got cube bike 4 years ago paid 63 pounds a month it suited me ok ,..........you have Shimano motor, SRAM Powertrain, bosch motor ,Brose motor, Yamaha many more ,alo have non branded ,.......also some very basic computers to see bike details , so best option go to few bike shops try out see what want weight or more battery or small battery but buy spares ,so my option see what extras add ons can get for that bike

Regardless of animals or not, we still need a lot of farmland. But it would be nice to see a lot more native trees. It’s much worse in Ireland. Scotland is 18% forest/woodland, Ireland is 11%. Similar sized country and population. Native woodland is even worse, Scotland it’s 4%, Ireland 1%
