    I would love to see an episode on options for “hidden” living room projector/screen setups that can work with an existing tv. I’ve been trying to come up with an elegant solution for movie nights, where the projector screen works in front of an existing wall mounted tv, and the projector’s wiring/mounting is fairly easy (I have concrete ceilings/in condo which makes things interesting). Or, an elegant short throw setup.

  • @LRN2DIY

    @LRN2DIY

    Yeah, I think short throw would definitely be the way to go on that. A low profile ceiling mount pull down screen would be great too but it would still be noticeable if you looked at it.

    I recently got that screen from the 2nd option. Funny part is I don't even use it to watch stuff. When we watch stuff with my little Nebula portable projector we usually just project onto the double doors in our bedroom. I actually use it for the background of my Twitch stream. Having a cheap portable projector means I can just have it next to my desk hooked up to my computer as a 4th monitor projecting behind me. That avoids the claustrophobic nature & setup/takedown annoyances of a green screen. I use it like a nice middle ground between the no green screen nerd room look and still having the dynamic backgrounds one might want from a green screen setup. And if I wanted to entirely key out my background out all I have to do is project green & zoom my camera in just enough so only the screen is in frame behind me.

    I’m starting out and trying to get my first budget projector. I was trying to decide between the Vankyo 630 you suggested vs the Optoma HD28HDR. How does it compare? I wonder how much of a projector do I want to start with, and what benefits are there really by paying a little more. But I don’t want to spend more than 500- 600 on one.

    I am currently running a roku ultra to my projector with the same vizio 5.1 surround system you are using in the demo. I have a Wimius projector. I use a 30 ft. aux cord from my soundbar under my screen to the projector on a shelf in the back of my room. From your video I could move my roku near the soundbar and use the switch for a similar set up you are using for the cost of the switch and long hdmi cord. Am I looking at an appreciable sound upgrade with that or will it basically be about the same?

  • @LRN2DIY

  • @LRN2DIY

    @LRN2DIY

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes! I actually did pretty much this exact setup not long ago before getting my receiver that I have now. If you buy a switcher that has 4 in, 2 out (here's one: geni.us/FZIbHtn) it can be used to manager your inputs and then one HDMI out goes to your TV/projector and the other goes to your receiver to manage audio. A lot cheaper than a new receiver and still lets you leverage your receiver's capabilities. I'd love to hear how it works out for you.

  • @danieldougan269
    @danieldougan2693 ай бұрын

    Don't forget used gear. You can often get a lot more bang for your buck if you buy used. People divest from A/V equipment all the time, and that means you can get something that's not just decent but actually great for the same amount of money or less. For example, I recently picked up a Sony 4K 7.2 receiver with HDCP 2.2 used for $50. It works flawlessly and looks like new. I only have 5.1 in terms of Sony speakers (also bought used for next to nothing), but I have room to grow into 7.2, and I am ready when the time comes to pick up a 4K TV and 4K Blu-ray player. Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and Goodwill are your friends if you are willing to put in the time to find a deal and don't need something right away.

    Great video! I’m just curious, if Ethernet is transferring data at 1Gbps, how can it transfer the 4K 60hz image along with all the sound data to go with it when you need a high speed hdmi cable to do that which I believe start at 18Gbps? Am I missing something? If you or any viewers are able to answer that question that would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • @LRN2DIY

    @LRN2DIY

    3 жыл бұрын

    Great question. I'm no expert on this but I know that Cat 6a ethernet and later support up to 10Gbps, which is obviously not on par with HDMI 2.0's 18 Gbps, but Cat 7 and 7a support a speed of 600 Mhz and 1,000 Mhz respectively, so I'm not sure if that helps to compensated for the lesser bandwidth. I'd also be interested in hearing if anyone can shed some light on this.

  • @LRN2DIY

    @LRN2DIY

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, they really do have to be ventilated if you have a lot in there. I just recently bought a ventilation system with a thermostat for my home theater, even though it's out in the open. I think heat is one of the biggest killers of media equipment. A closet like that might need a full on vent right through the wall to dissipate the heat, ideally with some fans and a thermostat. That would all be pretty doable and would cost under $100.

If your media and receiver support it, Atmos allows for overhead sounds to be distinctly rendered in your theater setup, like a helicopter fly-by or something falling. These are definitely an option (check out my other videos since that's what I'm using in my theater) but they pretty much always increase the cost of the entire setup.

    This video just shows what options are out there. My own home theater is not top of the line but I'm slowly upgrading components as I can, like my Epson 4010 4k projector and 7.2.2 surround. Here's mine: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mmGb0buvh7mcepc.html

    😂😂😂 Wow!!! A Good Projector costs $3000.00 plus. At that price the picture Quality is Far inferior to a $2000.00 85" inch Samsung Oled TV. Today if you are going to use a Projector you have to get a 4K Projector and they are much more expensive than buying a High Quality 85" TV. Today's Large screen TVs are very immersive. And are much better to watch than a 150" Screen with a far inferior picture. I don't like anything you did in this Video. Sony Makes inferior AV Receivers. Denon has much better AV Receivers, as does Yamaha, Pioneer, etc... Sony makes Excellent TVs but their Speakers and AV Receivers are 2nd rate.

    Once the novelty wears off the cupboard shall be it's permanent home! I've had several sound bars and a surround sound package but it was only when I purchased a budget AVR with budget stereo speakers I realised what I had been missing (stereo imaging, thumping bass, enveloping sound stage etc) besides going down this route, one could always add overtime.. surround speakers, subwoofers, one could even purchase height speakers to have the full non-virtual Dolby Atmos experience. If it's worth doing it's worth doing right! Our ears follow our eyes to where the story lives... kzread.info/dash/bejne/qqqY06tuob3HZso.htmlsi=dLGOOfcFQRxnHpnB
