It’s because not all the blocks in piggy build mode are full sized blocks size

It's this neat thing called offsets. Certain decorations can, if placed in the right spots, push other blocks off of the cubical grid. It allows for many _fine_ details in maps, and is one of the best things to ever happen to map makers.
