3 Body Problem Episode 1 "Countdown" REACTION (from a tencent version fan)

Фильм және анимация

Finally jumping into Netflix's take on The Three Body Problem. I am a massive fan of the Chinese Tencent version that came out last year and have been waiting to check out what an English version would look like. I would like to make it clear that there will be spoilers from the Tencent version in my reaction. I have not read the book(s) but am unsure what is covered in Netflix's take so hopefully nothing I say is a spoiler for season two.
I thought this first episode was a very promising start. Managed to get in some of the major plot points jammed into one episode without it feeling too rushed. Really curious to know what people think of the show that have not read the book or seen the Chinese version. Let me know if that's you in the comments! Should expect to see episodes uploaded on Tuesday/Thursday the next few weeks. May try to squeak in an extra episode each week though if I have the time. Should be a fun ride!
*Episode 2 is currently under copyright review, apologies!

Loved this show. First time viewer. Looking forward to see what you think and I'll check out the other version.

Definitely check out the Tencent version if you can find it. It's slow I won't lie but it's still just so good. It's almost like you're watching a book play out if that makes sense.

The Netflix version has a lot of buildup from book 2 and 3, mainly in episodes 6 to 8. If the story intrigues you even slightly, I highly recommend the books! (or audiobooks)

Interesting so it's almost like I'll be spoiling the tencent version for myself ha. Yeah I've been meaning to check the books out. May end up doing it as it'll prob be a couple years before another season of either shows is out.

Nice review/reaction, man. I watched this then started on the books (soon to finish #2) and I must say Book/Tencent does suspense and keeps the High-Concept Sci-Fi kinda more "realistic", but I personally find NetFlix adaptation does *characters* - and character development - better (probably the reason they split / merged different characters).

Awesome! Yeah the netflix adaptation is more like a traditional show/movie I guess. More viewer friendly while still being extremely high quality. It took me a few months to watch the tencent version with how 'slow' it is I guess. Still love it though but am loving this as well.

I've never seen the tencent show, nor the Netflix's version. I'm a total virgin of it lol. I will watch it with you and see if I'm interested. I'm a fan of sci-fi but these last years I'm very selective because there's a ton of overrated shows/movies.

I'd definitely recommend the tencent version. One of my favourite sci-fi related things I've seen in recent memory. Netflix version is really good so far as well.

Haven't read the books but I'm also a fan of the Tencent version. I might've appreciated the Netflix version more if I hadn't watched the Tencent version, but if the Tencent version is 9/10 for me, I give the Netflix version 5/10😶

I'd probably go a bit higher for the netflix version thus far but I obviously haven't finished it yet so maybe it ends poorly. Regardless you can't go wrong with the three body problem story.

@@EamonnReactsTV I know it's a harsh rating, but I found the science and the philosophy absent in it. It's more about the spectacle, rather than the actual existential dread. I actually liked episodes 6-8 more than the first 5, but that's just what I think.
