Here are 3 aquarium products worth a look. I was impressed by two of them, but one got a thumbs down. "hygger," a company I was previously unaware of, sent me a few products to take a look at. A syphon/hose system, an LED light and a heater. My take on these products is brutal but honest. Take a look and you tell me what you think about these products. Have you used any of these products or any products from hygger? Share your thoughts and comments below because, as you know, we all learn from each other!
Amazon store links to products discussed in video:

hygger siphon hose system: amzn.to/3rJB6qg

Well, just by being here watching my videos you are supporting the channel and you doing so is very appreciated. If you would like to take it a step further then hit that notification bell, subscribe and give the video a thumbs up. Want to do even more? Then use this link the next time you visist Amazon: www.amazon.com/shop/benochart
When you use this link anything you buy from my Amazon store, or any qualified product anywhere on Amazon, pays a small percentage to the channel. Your cost does not change, so it's a win-win for both of us!
Another thing you can do is visit the Teespring store listed under every one of my videos. The store stocks coffee mugs, tee's, hoodies and other merchandise with channel logo and and some of my favorite fish printed on them. You can go directly to my Teespring store by using this address: www.teespring.com/stores/ben-ocharts-store

Last, you can join me and a lot of awesome fish keepers for the Cichlids & Coffee live stream on Saturdays and while there you can do a thing called a "Super Chat" which allows you to throw a little cash at the channel.
Whether or not you can or can't do any of these, you are still GREATLY appreciated!

I recently purchased the Hygger water changer. They must have taken your advice because it is much better to use than my Aqueon. The hose is very nice and pliable. The valve on the part that attaches to sink is much easier to turn than Aqueon. I took a reviewers advice and purchased a metal adapter to attach to faucet. I also purchased the light and love it.

@@BenOchart I recently purchased the water change set, just a few days BEFORE seeing your review. The product is still pretty flimsy. I like that the hose is very pliable. Just before I purchased mine I used my neighbour's water change set and that was much more robust! The faucet attachment still does NOT fit properly. I used a huge roll of plumbers tape to get it to fit during water changes. I kind of regret going cheap now, I should have just manned up and asked my neighbour where he got his. Let's see how long it lasts.

I just purchased 4 of the Hygger 100W heaters for my tanks. I love the look of them, and how easy they are to hide, although they are showy enough to leave visible, and small enough to make more space in the aquariums. You set them and forget them, but if you need to adjust a temp, it is so simple, no getting your hands wet, just click the button to the temp you want and leave it.

Hey Ben...been reading reviews on the Hygger light and read a couple comments where you said you use an external timer rather than the built in timers. I like that idea so I can make it more customizable to how I like to run my lights. When using an external timer does the Hygger remember your preference settings, or does it go back to 100% lighting once the timer powers it back on. If so, does the 100% present a problem for you as in being too bright?

Ben, I have the Hygger Model: HG-921 heater. It is the best heater I've ever used and I've used a lot! If you ever get the chance to get one or try one of these, I strongly recommend it. They are extremely safe because they heat the tank differently from your standard glass tube heaters. You don't even have to shut them off when doing water changes because the second they get exposed to air, they immediately shut off.

Another great video uncle Ben but I got one important question for you about that heater would you still connected to an ink bird considering it already has that module. I want to buy a couple heaters for my 3 55 gallon tanks.

  • @BenOchart

    @BenOchart

    3 жыл бұрын

It wouldn’t be a bad idea since the control module is not really a traditional controller. It’s just the temp control and thermostat that would normally be inside the heater. So, yes, something that cuts off power at a certain temp would be wise, especially with 500watts that could potentially boil the fish quickly.

It's nice that they have the ability to reach out to you for product promotion, but don't seem to be able to return messages or answer the phone when there is a customer service issue. I'm not bitter! LOL I purchased their inline heater and it failed after a couple months. I tried and tried to get ahold of customer service for a replacement. Crickets. I'm using their canister filter with no complaints, but I won't be purchasing any hygger products in the future. Damn, I like the looks of that light too. Will be curious to see how those products hold up for you.

I had an Eheim version of the gravel vac that was self contained. No hose, and an external motor that was mounted to the top. The debris would get trapped in a built in micron mesh canister. The idea was the water would go back inside the tank, and the debris would stay in the canister. It was junk. The motor almost never started without smacking it. Right out of the box. It also felt cheap like yours did. The idea was good, because when the motor turned on it did actually trap a lot of detritus, but it was useless because it almost never worked. $40.00 lesson learned. Stick with the tried and true hose and a bucket, or python if you have a sink that it can hook up to.

I know that power gravel vac and yes, it was mostly useless. There are others available now that cost about the same but are much more powerful. I used to use it but now I just do my cleaning with the python when I'm doing water changes.

I almost bought that Eheim unit but came across too many comments like yours and decided to pass. A submersible pump that cycles water through a siphon tube and mesh sock might be a better approach for those occasionally needed touch-ups. Since I vacuum and do a WC every week, I usually don't need. But white sand, that shows every spec, is making me consider...

Some Malawi fish keepers on YT recommended the Eheim unit. Got one. It was made in China and complete trash. Used their canister filter in 70s and heaters now. Both are excellent and made in Germany.

@@BenOchart Yes, for sand substrate you should have a reliable power vac. I went through this nightmare in the past before moving to gravel substrate. I did find a very good powerful vac that worked very well. It had like 350gph of power and did a great job of lifting debris and waste off the top of sand. I even think it may have been a Hygger made vac.

Those silicone stringy things are useless. They get so dirty and hard to clean up. I had one in with my Tetras and they pooped so much and no matter how much maintenance I did in that tank, those silicone things were stained and couldn't get them nice.

I use it on a timer and go with the blue light before turning off so configuring it has not been of concern to me. But being able to would certainly be better. I'm loving the slim profile. Much less bulky that then Beamswork LEDs I'm using currently. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@BenOchart I enjoy your videos. I’ve had many tanks, but doing my first cichlids currently. Using Fluval lights on that tank and love the configurable of the app. Kind of light having AI Prime Lites (bad pun). 🍻
