In this video I show you how to change the timing chain cover gasket on the 2zz-ge engine with the engine outside of the vehicle. its not step by step but more of a general idea for when you have to do it.

    Nice video! Great commentary. You are a hard worker. After a day at work... you go home and pull an engine, clean it, work on it. You are the 2ZZGE king. 💯🔥🥇🏆🐐

    Just trying my best at this thing called KZread to help others. If your Celica is a 2000-03 you can do this with the engine in the car its just going to be a tight fit.

    Dont remove ac compressor. I tried and bolts broke so i couldn't remove it, and still i was able to do the job. 06 vibe gt. Thanks for the video. I referenced this and the in-car one many times during the job. You show things like seal packing and slides for p.s. pump that other videos dont mention. You don't mention re torque values. But i set my bar to 38 lbs and broke a bolt so i had to remove it all over again... I'm just gonna go ratchet tight to what feels the max tolerance. My 2zz has 310k miles and this was never done... the sludge was so bad it was unreal. Every time i parked for even a few minutes there were multiple drops of oil... This was good too because i had a escalating coolant leak from the thermostat housing from doing a rush job on a thermostat years ago and coolant corrosion building up cause it wasnt sealed. My big takaway from this job, and as a general mechanic reminder is: it's all in the prep.

    Dude, thanks for this and the many other videos you have done. Watched so many, love the 2ZZ and the skills you have. I'm not sure if I have an issue with this chain cover gasket or the chain tensioner o ring. I have lots of oil all over the belt tensioner cylinder and below on the PS pump. I can't see myself ever doing this job if it's a chain cover gasket issue, far too overwhelming. Do you think stop leak additives would freshen up the gasket? I'd like to keep my C-XRS, love the car, but it's not looking so good lately with the list of issues it has.

    Wow. I would've definitely changed the o ring on the tensioner. Sure it can be done in the car....but you gotta jack up the motor, loosen/remove the belt tensioner. But of a pain compared to out of the car.

    2zzlow at least in a matrix. Maybe not in a celica? I've not done it...but you can't get the chain tensioner out without getting the belt tensioner out of the way. And you can't get the belt tensioner off without the engine being jacked up a bit as one of the bolts doesn't clear.

    does the chain cover have anything to do with engine mount? ive done an engine swap and im having diffilcuties fitting the mount. Golf MK6 GT I actually heard you mention motor mount...so im guessing thats the part im having trouble with fitting in.

    Bro you are awesome 👏! I wish I had a garage and then I can do my own repairs 😎 now live in a condo 🙄🤦🏻‍♂️. So the easy way to replace the timing belt cover gasket is taking the engine out? Or there’s another way 🤔

  • @2zzlow

    @2zzlow

    4 жыл бұрын

    I dont have a garage bro, literally working in my back yard porch. Damn a condo, yea sucks and some cities dont allow people to work on their cars on the streets. Any 2ZZ 04 and up you need to pull the engine out or drop the exhaust manifold out of the car. 2000-03 2zz you can do it with the engine in the car.

  • @AmeriFanPicker

    2zzlow so primarily because of that smog pipe? And to delete that pipe (I have an 04 with 03 ecu) you have to remove the exhaust manifold?

  • @2zzlow

    @2zzlow

    4 жыл бұрын

    That smog pipe wraps around the timing chain cover and needs to be removed. I have made a recent discovery that you can remove the exhaust manifold from the engine and get it out of the way to get the job done with the engine In the car

  • @AmeriFanPicker

    @AmeriFanPicker

    The o-ring on the timing chain tensioner eventually leak. I assume they shrink and they are not tight to begin with. It is a design defect in my opinion. It should be standard maintenance.

  • @2zzlow

    @2zzlow

    4 жыл бұрын

    yes they do, I thought i had the o ring but turns out i didn't which is why i didn't install a new one. they go flat all around and they eventually seep oil through.
