I agree with original post ….I enjoy collecting cards . Really don’t care what grade I just actually enjoy remembering my childhood. I go and buy the ones I wanted but couldn’t afford. Now I’m able to.

In the early 1980s, a single pack of Topps, Fleer or Donruss baseball cards only cost 30 cents. Many little kids could afford a pack or 2. A box of 36 packs was $10.80 plus tax. It felt like Christmas morning opening up a box of 500+ cards.

Kids are not the ones buying these 30-60 bucks for a few cards boxes. That's why baseball is no longer the national pastime. It is for me, I'll admit, as I came from a different time where we escaped to Municipal Stadium in Cleveland. We relaxed which has become obscure.

wow, i was a freshman at Renton High School in Washington and played against Dave Riske in 1994 when he played at our rival Lindbergh High School. They won state in 1994 and 1995 with him on their team. crazy to think of all the pitchers that Dmitri faced, that Riske was the toughest.

Same here. I started in 1987 and sold off everything in 2011. The biggest mistake of my life and massive regret that haunts me daily. I started over in 2014, and it just isn't quite the same.

Kid's can still go get blasters and packs from Walmart, but I'm glad the hobby understood that collectors grow up, and so do their taste. That's how we get National Treasures, Imac, Impeccable, and other high end sets.

I have quite a bit of cards a few graded and quite a few not. I have a Reggie Jackson rookie card but not graded. I've been collecting since the 70's and have a question for anyone out there. Is there a certain category beside the position they play in that you would collect that particular type of cards. For example I have 10 Jerry Rice, 15 Ken Griffey or more. I just don't know how to put them in order like they should be. I had planned to have them graded but have heard so many horror stories about sending them in for grading.

I remember David Riske. I lived near the Indians' High A team when he was coming up through the Cleveland system. He was the closer in the minor leagues, even though he was a 56th round draft pick. Dude put together a decent big league career despite not having any big weapons to play with...
