2WD Tacoma Adventure - Holcomb Valley Rd. - Overlanding - Offshoots

We took our 2WD Tacoma on an awesome adventure in the Holcomb Valley near Big Bear. We end up doing the Holcomb Valley Rd. - 3N16 and also a few small offshoot nearby. My Tacoma was the only one with 2WD and was able to keep up with 9 other 4x4 vehicles. Definitely recommend doing this trail for yourself, as it not a hard trail for 2WD to do.

I have a standard cab 2x4 Tacoma that is on 35s. It would go right up all that with ease. It has 4:88 gears and a Detroit locker in the rear and that is key. You got to have the locker. I personally feel that a 2x4 with a locker can out so a 4x4 with open diffs on that type of terrain, not snow or mud. When you flex and a tire gets light that means you other tire is loaded with double the weight and traction on it. I had a bunch of coworkers that all had full sized Chevys and stuff and they all made fun of my lifted 2x4. Until one day when we all went out and my truck did better than all of them with ease.

momentum goes a long way! I used to off-road a couple mountains over from you on MT. San Jacinto in a fedex cargo van lol. It was the best route I ever did, also I once took a 24 foot penske rental off-road in yucca valley. I did get stuck here and there and had to spend 40 or so minutes collecting rocks and diggin out behind the tires and putting in the rocks to get out lol. It was fun af, I still have the pictures and videos.

Momentum does go a long way. Honestly I think starting off road in a not so capable rig will help you learn how to pick line and overall have a learning experience off roading. If someone start off roading with a decked out rig, they don't really find the fun in all the small details that comes along with off roading. Gotta learn to walk before you can run.
