2S38 Derivaciya PVO - This is Russia's Answer to the Anti-UAV Mission
The 2S38 Derivaciya PVO is a new Russian Self-Propelled Anti-Aircraft System (SPAAG). It was designed as a concept or technology demonstrator. It could be a possible replacement for a 2S6 Tunguska air defense system, that was adopted back in the early 1980s. By 2020 a couple of units of the new system were completed.
This new mobile air defense system was designed to engage low-flying aircraft, helicopters, UAVs, cruise missiles, air-to-ground missiles. It can even engage single large-caliber artillery rockets. The 2S38 combat vehicle was designed to operate as a part of a larger system, that includes various support vehicles.

I think that remote controlled, cheap SPAAG drones or cheap SAM drones would be the way forward in the long haul for anti UAV ops. But its a great concept. Well done again Russia

Yes radar datalinked for targeting and multi units . Anti kamikazi drones and bombs also jamming decoys. This Could be useful to protect high end asset systems like the s400 and s300s Also pantsirs. Dont firvet my cut ;))

@Jung. I forgot to add that the 2S38 can actually can fire LASER-guided shells. Not just electronic fuses.

Орудие на "Деривации" - корабельное, АУ-220М, 57мм... там великолепная баллистика, уже отработаны беприпасы с программируемым взрывателем. База БМП-3 эксперементальная, настоящее место для такого орудия - тяжелая БМП на базе "Армата" Т-15 и спаренная установка на БМПТ, боевой машине поддержки танков - это будет море беспощадного огня, реальный "Терминатор" )))) РОССИЯ - СИЛА !!!
It could turn out that "it takes a drone to kill a drone." But I think the anti-drones will be autonomous instead of operator controlled in the interdiction and destruction phase. Any new weapon system will be effective at first, but they all result in countermeasures being developed. BTW the Soviet 57MM was also the backbone anti-aircraft gun of the North during the Vietnam War, so I can see it being an optimal caliber for AA.

This is an extremely important piece of military hardware. Similar AAA abilities will probably come to the 57mm cannon on other Russian AFVs.

My question would be, it's targeting system it's by radar, or optical? It would work like a battery with several units, just two? It would be linked to the missile targeting system? I don't know, I'm guessing that the russian are selling short this sustem, or it's still at fase of development. Nice video Mr Dung 👍🏼

Both radar and optical, but very short range radar, just to target close drons, falling bombs, flying antitank rokets, mines... It is planned to be the cheapest $/target AA and artillery system (ground targets). Anti-roket integration would be nice but probably expencive, because the major reason for this maschine is cost, rather than advanced characteristics.

@@Daruliable of cource it is not against Bairactar. It is against bombs and rockets launched by Bairactar. And against Israel camicadze drones, which are way more dangerous than Bairactar. And against crowds of Aliexpress drones. It is exactly what Khmeimim base is missing, when they launch expencive rockets against scrap -made drones. Bairactar itself is a very easy target for existing (modern) systems, if they are operated by Russians, not Arabs). Arabs loose all modern wars, no matter if they operate Russian, US or any modern systems.
Be interesting to see how it performs in the live theatre against a suitable combatant and not some ill equipped guerrilla force.

Reportedly Turkish drones operate above 6km, above reach of manpads. So not sure how it is supposed to fight off such targets.

He clearly talked about low flying drones. How they could avoid radar and using missiles are not cost effective. So obviously he is not talking about high flying drones.

It should have been designed with three guns that form a star shape but all rotating on the same axis.
