idk but i found this more motivational and empowering than the "love youself" or "i'm beautiful/i'm perfect" ones. this song feels anthemic

I always think that Dara is the most superior female visual in Kpop. Tagged as the vampire goddess, her visual can still compete to this younger generations of idol. And the fact that till up to this date, she’s the only one who dared to shaved her hair into half. Yes this generation of visuals are beautiful. But no one can comes close to Dara, no one dared to go beyond of trying styles. Period

As someone born with a birthmark on the face and being bullied for how I look throughout my whole life, I instantly fall in love with 2NE1 and their music since debut for their unconventional styles and even more so when they released “Ugly”. I love how this song celebrates the beauty in vulnerability, it’s beautiful, and empowering. Self love and acceptance is what matter the most. Eagerly waiting to witness all 4 of my queens together like we did with Coachella. 2NE1 4 Ever, and Blackjack forever.

2NE1 came from almost nothing, they didn’t have the things BLACKPINK’s been given by YG when they were younger. Even when they were called ugly, they had much more talent and personality than most k-pop artists. 2NE1’s songs not only had great rhythm, they also had a message, a real meaning. 2NE1: The best female group in the world.

This song isn't "telling" you that "oh, you should love yourself, you're not ugly!". It's evident many people don't get it because of all the negativity against the song. EX: " They're saying _______ yet the got plastic surgery and wear pounds of make up" Are you serious? This song is expressing the desire, the battle, the pain to want to be up to the standard of not only "beautiful" but "perfect" in all aspects. Singing "I want to be pretty" directly means that, "I want to be pretty". Simple as that, it reflects the minds of the young and old generation. This song does not give you a real message, you have to figure it out yourself by looking at the reflection they make of all the girls out there. This is a reflection, not a message.

Me pesonaly, I think this sing doesn't send that message, mybe All about that bass tells you to love urself, but this song as I listened it for the first time I think just says ''I'm ugly, kill me'' but yes it's wron of them to say that if they really did make surgery (sorry not a fun didn't know that) BUT maybe they are singing about what and how they felt before surgery, or how they feel without makeup, to me they semm pretty prtty girls but all in all it's music industry more than half of it doesn't mean something and half of the part that does is jst for money and fame so don't expect no one to sing about something deep and for them to actually feel it

When I first listened to this song, I was so confused ... why were these beautiful talented girls singing about how they were ugly? But after getting to know 2ne1 and living in Korea I totally can understand them... actually according to American standards I think 2ne1 is so beautiful because each member expresses so much individuality and confidence. These two things are the most important factors in American beauty standards. But Korean beauty standards are all about fitting into a typical look. I really love Korea but I hate that they try to fit people into a specific mold... I now understand why they made this song and I can relate to it 100%. I don't want to change korea, but I hope their society can become more accepting and loving towards individuality rather than perfection.

Haha. American "beauty standards" arnt accepting at all. Its not about individually or cofimdence, you must have big boobs, tiny waist, big ass, tan skin, big lips and individuality and cofindence. American standards are no better. An I honestly prefer Korean beauty standards.

When the management YG is not satisfied on their beauty and call them ugly (breaking their spirit) and suggest for surgery they did not see their inner beauty. Only a true fans of 2NE1 can see their deep beauty... the individuality of their voices... the aura... the clothes that they look great...the character on stage when they sing... but together they can pull out their emotions to their music that a fans can feel them ( even most of us cannot understand korean song including me😄). The 4 of them are so good together (don’t like them separate and make each one their own music). It’s a complete set of food that will satisfy me up to the end.

2ne1 was really that girlgroup. Perfect image, great songs, always giving us their 101% in every performance. They really embodied the best KPOP girlgroup. I was so proud of them, always will.

2NE1 is really the ONLY female counterpart of BIGBANG. Worthy of the QUEENS title. They both have this music about human inferiority, like this song UGLY & 'BIGBANG LOSER'. This great masterpiece songs depicts human characters weakness, that we all have in some other ways but this great musicians somehow, make this lowly feelings sound like being a loser and being ugly is ok, it's natural to feel this emotions, and yet conquer this feelings in such a cool way. They touch listeners emotions in such a very deep way right to the core of our being. Their music are EMPOWERING & echoes self acceptance of someone's flaws and mistakes. 2NE1 & BIGBANG ARE REAL KINGS AND QUEEN OF KPOP HISTORY!!! GENUINE LEGENDS!

I think the most similar group is (G)I-DLE. Their song Allergy reminds me of this song.

Dreamcatcher also have tried all those generes, althought most of their title tracks are rock. But they already mix rock, ballad, reggae, reggaeton, pop, edm, jazz, trap, pop, hiphop. Maybe that's why i like DC cause my first GG i stan was 2ne1, and they always were very versitele, cause now the gg always have the same concept o similar sound. Also i wish DC have it more recognition like the true queens of kpop 2ne1.

A lot of non-Blackjacks who seem to have discovered 2NE1, for new listeners 2NE1 was called Ugly when they first debuted. They were constantly bullied by both YG and others. They were outcasts of their time and didn't fit the girl group style, just look at other groups out at their time. SNSD (Girl's Generation), Kara, T-ara, Wonder Girls, and 4Minute. Most girl groups where very "pretty" in their styling. This group of girls where the odd balls out. But I will say I think that's why I really liked them. And to all the BlackPink fans coming to 2NE1 and thinking they have a similar vibe and sound it's because they have the exact same producer that 2NE1 had (Teddy Park [produced I believe all their songs]) and some of the songs originally meant for 2NE1 went to BlackPink. I am a hardcore BJ and I love my girls. Still sad over their disbanding, I honestly think they outrank BlackPink.

@@kleecake6635 in terms of sound, they have the same producer. That’s not a comparison that’s simply a fact that you can google and see for yourself. Thus leading to them to having a similar sound. They have a different styling but their sound which is the most important aspect in my opinion is extremely similar.

@@kleecake6635 i can add the live performances differences too in terms of charisma the concept of marketable idols not authentic artists like their seniors the passion is lacking the flame (it's not just them many idols nowadays arent having it) thus making 2ne1 even more on top and for sure the pinks look up to em this way since they joined the company when 2ne1 and bb were still building it.

how come new kpop groups are not making songs like this one. Can we have songs like this one, a song that actually has a meaning.

It's still not a good reason to make meaningless songs. How can people relate to it if its meaningless. Its just like singing without any reason, and like a singer who doesn't put a any feeling and soul to a song. True artist performs whole heartedly. Unlike fake once sing, dance and perform like a dummy.

I used to cry to this song because of what I found out. I was in college, my younger sister was in high school. One day I was randomly looking for a cleaned paper I could use in the cabinet, then I saw a little notebook. It was my sister's diary. She basically wrote there that she wanted to pursue Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) in college just like my older sister but she thinks she's not qualified because she's fat and ugly. She's a very kind girl and it literally shattered my heart reading that, and the fact that at her young age she could already think like that made me feel so bad. She has now graduated college but she took up Pharmacy which she likes, and as for me I'm currently in med school. This song is so empowering and it's one of the reasons why I will forever be a blackjack. They don't make songs like this anymore tackling mental health.

whoa first of all "damn, son" yg never said they were a prettier "version" of 2ne1. he said once that "in the past" he never prioritized visuals when creating groups but this time around he did consider visuals heavily and spoke about how hard it was to find girls who were super pretty and talented at the same time. he implied that visuals weren't a factor when creating 2ne1 and I actually fail to see why that's an insult? he's basically saying they were chosen for their talents and not looks, that's the literal opposite of shallow. stop bringing anything about blackpink here because it's super frustrating for people like me who are a huge fan of both groups. I'd also appricate if you stopped spreading false info about things people said because yg never said any of that. he loved 2ne1 like daughters and expressed that constantly.

2NE1 is the only girl group who called them self ugly... so different, but i love it

Im not really a kpop fan but i do know 2ne1 and really like their music. They were different and im gonna say it, they're the best kpop artists ever. They're so unique. Each of them having their distinct style. The best

Fun Fact: Park Bom once cried while recording her part for this song. She felt the lyrics and got emotional. 2ne1's music is not just a bop. But a bop WITH content. @@dianasmile2518 not all her plastic surgery were to fit the beauty standard tho, she suffer health issues (I think she suffered since she was young, sorry if I'm wrong) where her face kept bloated. She need to do some treatment (medicine, surgery, etc) as the solutions. I guess because of that, she get "addicted" to surgery (well there's once a rumour about that but idk if it true or not, but if it true I guess it's make sense)

@Sabihah Salleh... Bom is not addicted to ps actually she has never confirmed about her ps she just played around about that cuz people started to spread that rumor about her having ps.... She said something like "omg my plastic surgery" and she was laughing when she said that...as I said people think she did ps due her face "changed" but as far i remember Bom said on 2NE1tv that during her trainee days she developed a health problem that make her face swollen, also Bom medicine for her ADHD makes hard for her lose weight...i personally think that Bom so called "ps" is actually side effects of her medical treatment... anyways thanks for trying to defend Bommie😊
