Thanks for sharing this interesting drive through America`s Great Basin ! Anyone interested in this area and it`s connection to America`s Westward Expansion should read: Wagons West, by Frank McLynn. Oh how those immigrants suffered--we take sooo much for granted, and sadly, most folks are clueless to our ancestor`s plight !
I love your videos. I've driven or flown all over the west as a 30 year helicopter pilot mostly stationed out of SLC. I choose this video to comment as it's my favorite stretch of highway for it's historic value. The west is so interesting IMO and most people drive through it in air conditioned comfort with no clue. I'm to old and can't do the drives any more so I'm for one so enjoy these videos. Thank you so much. I hope you see this post and know how much it brings joy to me.
Why would anyone "hate" driving through "The Great Basin"? I wasn't expecting Nevada to be the most mountainous, I would have guessed Colorado would be the most mountainous.

It’s just dead grass and weeds let’s be real😂. No tress no cities
Haha...covering the entire I-80 in 12 min. 😂
i love these straight roads with desert scenery just amazing
I once drove almost 500 miles eastbound of I-80. It is my favourite road I have driven. The route which is shown in the video I drove in the dark. Thanks for this nice video!
Somehow, I missed the "Mustang" exit some 12 miles east of Reno. I hear they do a lot of "ranching" there! Mostly indoors, though.

Lance Gilman moved the Mustang Ranch from Mustang to his Tahoe-Reno Industrial park next yo his original Wild Horse brothel.
@ 1:40, Taking that exit takes you to Vegas, the long but scenic drive through the middle of Nevada. It reminds me of driving through Texas going through there with all the mining towns that you have to slow down for.
That road should not have a speed limit. If I were driving on this part of I-80, it would be hard for me to keep it under 90 lol. Enjoyed the video!

It didn't until the 55mph idiocy in late 70s. I remember driving from Lovelock to Reno in under an hour and passing Highway patrol at about 110. They just watched me go by.
This stretch of highway seems to be the perfect setting for land speed records. Once Bonneville can never be used again without the salt, long stretches of highway could be used. The salt flat stretch comes to mind, with 40 miles worth of potential speed records. And since it’s on asphalt, the salt won’t bog the vehicles down.

Actually, the current Land Speed Record was set in the Black Rock desert. If you're eastbound on I80 from Reno, hang a left at Wadsworth.
This is an incredible video! Thanks for the time and effort spent in making this!
Great video! I-80 is fascinating through Nevada. I did it westbound. Very neat at night coming towards the towns and seeing the lights in the distance.

speed limit is insane!

If you think an 80 mph speed limit on a lightly travelled interstate is insane, consider the following: Apparently you have not driven along the toll lanes of I-635 in Dallas, TX. The speed limit along that stretch is 75 mph. One time I drove that stretch at 80 mph and stayed in the right lane the whole time, with vehicles whizzing on past me.
Alright! Another road traveling video!
Interesting drive! If the Great Basin had the cool and moist climate of New England or the adjacent Canadian maritime provinces, it would be full of lakes or perhaps even be one big Great Lake.

It was one big lake about 12,000 years ago called Lake Lahontan.
Makes me miss home 😭
Cool video so far! I think I-80 coming out of Reno is one of the better stretches of the interstate system. I always associate it with “Never Cry Again” by Dash Berlin which was a song used for your Reno to Fernley video!

Josh Bostock I was referencing a video that was released in 2012, which many older viewers remember fondly. I’ve gotten many requests since then to bring it back and sure enough I did, six years later lol. This video is the third remake of this stretch for me.

InterstateKyle that’s far too early for me! I’ve only been watching your channel since 2015 lol!
The variants in vehicular count are just as true of Interstate 15 (same state) to the south and even Interstate 11.
Dope
👍
US 40 used to go through the Great Basin

US 40 still goes through the Great Basin
Please Don't Leave Me by P!nk and Enter Sandman by Metallica are my favorite songs. I knew these songs since 2007. My mom was 10 years old when the second song on this video came out. That song was released in July 30th, 1991. Source - Google.
Was this part where the Koenigsegg speed record was done?
Has been on Interstate 80 through Iowa?
Area 51
Reno to wendover was the most boring drive ever
