    What a story !! I phone One of my nearest 2cv specialist and they told me that for my Ami6 they need to lift the body up away from the chassis to do that job, I m gonna show them your video.

  • @oldnutsgarage

    @oldnutsgarage

    3 жыл бұрын

    The Ami is slightly different as the suspension pots are larger and the floor of the car is curved above them. I have not done a swap on an Ami but I think that with the. sleeves out of the way front and rear there should be enough movement to allow the pot to be removed without lifting the body, but I do not know for certain. Maybe you should check with another garage ? The other differences from the ones in the video are lock nuts on the tie rods and a rubber strap around the centre of the pot. Good luck with it and thanks for watching!

    Hey Mark. Just found this as I removed one of my cans a while ago (after a mighty struggle - v rusty) and am now getting round to rebuilding. Didn't know you were on Y/T but when I started the video .... "I recognise that voice" ! Good to see you. Enjoyed the vid. Will get to Part 2 in a day or two. Roger

    Hi Roger, great to hear from you after all these years. Hope you are well and welcome to the channel where a bewildered old man wanders around a garage muttering to himself! It is mainly motorbike tinkering but I seem to remember you having a Guzzi V65? Do you still have the split screen? Too many questions for a comments section on youtube!

    @@oldnutsgarage Yes, i'm well, thanks. Happily, now retired so have theoretically more free time though it doesn't seem to work out that way! Still the same 2CV but still coveting an AK, still a Guzzi fan, Splittie had to go though. Interesting collection of vids you've done. Hope to see you sometime.

  • @oldnutsgarage

    Hi Eric, the sleeve adapter for the suspension is sold by lots of 2cv shops, in Holland try Burton, part number SKU: A1.2719. I bought mine from France a few years ago and it was 5 euros or so, so things have got more expensive. Thanks for watching !

    @@oldnutsgarage I think you mentioned the used suspension cylinders were 12.50 Actually if you have any tips at all on where to get parts besides ebay, i would really apreciate it. On Ebay even the used parts are same ballpark as new ones on for example Burton.

    I actually paid £30 for 5 suspension pots on Ebay although a couple could do with end caps really so I rounded the price up for the video. There are lots of people asking high prices for second hand stuff at the moment. Try one of the Facebook enthusiast groups someone there may have some or if you live in the North West I may be able to sort out 2 useable ones.

    @@oldnutsgarage I would actually be interested in a pair but problem is i live in Estonia, so theres also shipping which i wouldnt want to bother you with. One more question though. My car, does not have front shock absorbers, only rear ones. There are mounts for them near the pots but no mounting point near the wheels. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but can it be that some of them dont have front shocks? judging by how rusty the pot-side mounting point is, the car has not had any for a long time. Thanks for your replies, really appreciate it!

  • @oldnutsgarage

    Nice to talk to someone from Estonia ! Some cars had rear shocks only, but would then have had frotteurs at the axle ends and batteurs attached to the front hubs to provide the damping. They would probably not have had mounting points on the chassis, so it is hard to know what is going on with your car. Do you have two upright tubes attached to each front hub?

    What the number this keys by suspensión

  • @oldnutsgarage

    @oldnutsgarage

    Hi Arnaldo, slight translation issue here, so if this is not the correct answer please forgive me. I assume you would like to know the spanner size for the suspension nuts, which is 46mm. The adjuster rod has flats for a 9mm spanner, but there are a variety of adapters to bring this up to a more sensible size available from any good parts supplier. Hope this answers the question if not please let me know. Thanks for watching!

    Hmm... Need to research 2CV suspension, because I didn't understand that at all... Vertical movement is translated into horizontal movement linking front and rear wheels per side... Phewph... If there's a mad way to do something the French will find it. (The 10 hour day, the 10 day week, the, (sadly), 12 month year, each month being 30 days, leaving 5.25 days per year unaccounted for. The alternative would have been 10 36 day months, neither of which were adequately decimal)... Enjoyed it, though. I clearly have a 10 cell brain... A little lie down is called for...

    Yeah, they did lose their head bit during the revolution ( some more than others ) but the suspension design is actually a work of genius. Low centre of gravity, no intrusion into the body / engine bay, extremely robust but very low maintenance and inter linked front to rear. All at a time when cart springs were pretty much the norm on other cars. Thanks once again for taking the time to watch !

    @@oldnutsgarage I have to agree. Citroen were remarkable innovators. For such attention to be lavished on a utilitarian vehicle is astonishing.
