2CV Service Pt2 - Manifold distractions!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

More workshop time as the manifold comes off again! Time to refit the right one... But has it made a difference to how this engine runs? Includes a sneaky test drive.

FYI, if you want to clean up or flatten a surface with a file, the best method is called "drawfiling" which is holding the file with both hands and moving the file at right angles to the length of the file. This is not intuitive, but is a good way to prevent the grooves the file makes when using it normally. Dave.

Great stuff Mr Hubnut. If you like seeing 2CVs being driven around with bodywork removed you should check out the 1970's Dr Who and the Sea Devils. They used Citroën Diane's with the doors and roof removed to act as some kind of futuristic transport together with a comedic synthesised siren sound. One of my favourite Dr Who stories BTW. Thanks for the videos, much more entertaining than mainstream telly.

I once owned a VW Type 2 camper. When purchased, the previous owner made a big deal about how he'd fitted new heater trunking, and heat exchangers. Sure enough, underneath they looked clean an brand spankers. On driving home, i thought I'd try the heater vents. Yup, quite a blast, especially when accelerating! However, it was at that point I discovered a previous owner had smashed a windscreen. As the revs climbed, a twin fountain of tiny glass cubes shot out of the demister vents....All the broken glass had fallen down the vents, and I must have been the first person to actually try the heater whilst the engine was revving! A right mess, and quite a surprise.

The early Porsches up to the 30 SC had NO aiding heater fans at all. Starting with the 3.2 in september 82, two little additional blower motors were mounted near both left and right footwells. And yes, they soon started to squeak. But hey, that’s a Porsche, back in the era with lots of pedigree going back to, the beetle indeed. This means that, in cold weather, both demisting and heating were nearly non existent. And I speak of experience. Nice video!

On topic, nice to see that mortals can work on cars, only with older cars you can do that, newer you need so much hastle to unscrew all that plastic to get where you want and then you realise you need to exchange the whole component instead of a small resistor, diode or a sensor. 🤔🤔, Good luck for those future classic lovers. I bet not many cars with downsized engines will survive and if they do good luck with plastic.

That test camera footage looks like it could be from a NASA Mars Rover but then you probably wouldn't hear "Not my Sierra's" on the Mars sound track. Yup, air cooled VDubs are very similar. I hope they never leak on the GSA, I'd rather pull my own teeth than have to do that job again. Glad someone passed on the technique of settling the V clamps. Best to hold the file at the centre of the contact area, tendency is to file unevenly if you use the handle, especially one handed, if you can find a file block they're ideal.
