    @@charleswrigley9488 but if you can adjust the volume and distance setting of the surround speakers, you should still be able to alter the sound to your liking. If the front speakers aren't loud enough, turn the surround speakers down. Gives you the same effect as turning the front speakers up.

    i did all that and i cant make it produce actual surround sound. No matter the source, PS5, Xbox or PC, or external HDD - it wont produce surround. The test tone confirms all is plugged and working correctly, and i have played with the audio settings quite a bit, but no luck. Best the rear speakers can do, is double the audio for the other speakers at lower volume.

  • @andrebomtempo7893
    @andrebomtempo78932 жыл бұрын

    Hi! First of all, thanks and congrats for the video, very good one! I bought this a few months ago and I am really struggling with the 5.1, and was wondering if you could tell me your opinion. I had own 2 other home theater systems in the past and what I am going to say now applies to both of them, but not to this Sony one. In the previous ones, both rear speakers were completely silence, unless there is an effect going on (car passing, etc), then they would make that sound to give the surround feeling. What I am experiencing with this Sony HT is not that. Both rears speakers are always outputting sound (including the dialogue and everything else), just on a lower volume. I have tried 5.1 test wav files and they are not being output individually. I have returned the first unit thinking it was an issue with the one I've received, but the new one does the same thing. I am using 2.1 HDMI cable and also using 5.1 source, so I don't know what to do anymore. Here is what I did so far to try and find out the source of the issue: 1) Replace the entire system for a new one: At first I thought the Home Theater I received was faulty, so I requested a replacement and got a new one the next day. It is acting exactly the same as the previous one, so clearly it is not a matter of it being damaged. 2) Try different cables: I am using the HDMI Arc connection, so I have tried with a few different high speed 2.1 HDMI cables and nothing changed. 3) Use another input and isolate the television: Like I said previously, I am using HDMI Arc, because I have more than one device going to my TV and want to output everything to the Home Theater. Just to be clear, my TV is modern (LG 4K TV) and is compatible with HDMI Arc (I am using the output that says Arc on the TV). I tried this with different cables and nothing changed. So I decided to try the connection with the optical cable provided by Sony with the Home Theater. I plug the output of my TV to the input of the HT via optical cable and nothing changed. Since I got a bluray going into the TV via HDMI, and then the sound being output to the HT via optical, I thought that the TV could be doing something to the 5.1 audio and not outputting it correctly, so I decided to take the TV out of the equation and connect the optical output of my bluray player directly to the optical input of the HT. The sound was exactly the same and nothing changed. 4) Use a high quality 5.1 test file: I have an audio file that is a 5.1 test. The file just says: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Each of the numbers must be played by the correct speaker. What happens when I play it is: what is supposed to be played on the front left speaker, is being played in the rear left as well (same with the right front and rear); what is supposed to be played in the centre speaker is also coming out of both rear speakers; and what is supposed to be coming only from the rear speakers is coming out of the side front ones as well. 5) Enable/disable the Multispeaker function on the HT: According to the manual, there is a Multispeaker function that can be enabled and disabled. The manual says that when it is ON it "Outputs the sound from all the speakers, regardless of the number of audio channels for the playback source". What I understand from that is if I play something that is in stereo (2 channels), the rear speakers will play something as well, probably reproducing what the 2 front channels are playing. On the other hand, when it is OFF it "Outputs the sound from the speakers that correspond to the audio channel for the playback source". From that I deduce that if I am playing something in stereo, only the front speakers will work, whereas if I play something in 5.1, then the rear speakers will also work. If this is correct, I want to leave it OFF, because I only want 5.1 when I am playing something in 5.1. What happens is that when it's OFF, even when I am playing something that I 100% know is 5.1 (like a movie or even the test file), the rear speakers do not output any sound. I've sent all this to Sony but didnt get any help. Sorry for the extremelly long comment, but I'd appreciate if you could give me any insight and also let me know if you experience that too.
