For nine years I owned a 68 Fury One Police I bought from a retired Powder Springs cop. Still had the decal on the door!!! 440 and built like a tank and drove and ran like one!!😁 Original red lights and siren. It was a blast!! It’s in a Mopar museum now for everyone to enjoy!’

Hi Steve, my dad had a 1965 Sport Fury and because it had a console shifted automatic they covered up the shift indicator with a little plastic piece with the hood ornament cast into it. On the police special in this episode you can see the column shift indicator to show which gear your are in (just above the steering column). When we were kids I used to show my friends this top secret hatch with the unused LSDRP underneath it- we thought it was cool. I think when I got my learners license it was probably fortunate for the general public that the car only had the underpowered 318 two barrel which made V8 noise but had 6 cylinder power. I might not still be around if it was a big block car. 😉Thanks for this episode Steve.

@@jimc3688 1965 was a one year only transition where the cable formerly used with the push buttons was used with column and console shifters. 1966 and later cars used linkage rods like GM and Ford. US cars used the LA 318 from 1967 while Canadian cars last used the 318 poly in the 1967 model year. Neighbor owned another just like it but with a red interior & top, 4-speed/383 hi-po which he later wrecked. Mine had a factory reverb sound system that was very cool. As I understand it the white/blue combinations were the pace car colors & apparently sound were sold as such. It was a chicken magnet in those days.

In 1968 my dad went to a dealership in Fl to get a 383 sport fury III commando v8, 'police highway-package', metallic blue, 2-door, black vinyl fast-back, 15" 500 Mag wheels, bench front-seat, 3-on-the-tree, with tow package and CB Radio, and they wouldn't sell it to him cuz they weren't sure about state regs selling a police fleet privately, went to Ga, they said "Why so you can bootleg? Chrysler wouldn't let them anyways", went all they way to Nv, and they said "what else you want?" cost him $15,824 in '68. Lost it to a divorce 2 years later, loved that car til the day he died more then any of his wife's, maybe why he had so many,...🤔

Legand has it, (from LAPD cop) the hottest cop car was the 68 belvedere 383. LAPD used full, metalic brake shoes, which were really effective, but warped the drums from the heat. When they went back to organic, the cops hit the guardrails in chases, because the brakes were inferior without the full metalic shoes. I had a 68 Satellite with the 4 piston set up, the discs were small, and I think they were also two piece, also prone to failure. I parted the car, so I never used them.

Nice "police package" but my observation was this car never got used in police duty because the back doors had interior release handles. More likely it was used as a detective car or other non pursuit duty. Might also have been used in the fire service. There's not too many other uses for a car with radio delete but still having the other goodies. Definitely bought as a fleet vehicle when new. BTW, most people don't know this but "fleet duty" cars usually had an extra firm seat cushion and heavy duty fabric too boot!

This was probably not a highway patrol car because it had the 383 2 barrel engine which actually was more than adequate for that car which was not especially heavy. Even that 2 barrel engine provided plenty of torque and millions of them powered all kinds of Chrysler cars and was the base engine in the Chrysler Newport.
