To make it a bit more simple you could simply paint it with acrylic paint and then once dried just paint it with some resin to seal it.

Hi Daniel! I always 👍 and watch to the end! I watch on tv so don't usually come online to comment, BUT today I did. 😁 Wanted to suggest that on the large Seahorse, you talked about the sharp spine points. I would say attach small tapering sizes of pearl or "seed beads" to accentuate those spines (and solve the sharp points). Make a beautiful brooch with the large one! Keep up the great work, I enjoy your channel!

I had that seahorses mould, you can glue them together back to back and make a 3d sculpture....Maybe even with a layer of flakes inbetween the 2 halves

I keep a flat profile container with about a half inch of sand or clay to rest my items in that are not level, that way I can get them level before adding backing or a thin layer.

For anyone watching, alcohol is a solvent for resin, this should work with any solvent for any material, look up msds or research to make sure it is safe to do so before though

Oh, shoot, I recommended that...I should've read all the comments, first! Oh, well...at least another comment will help with the algorithm, right? Yes, Dan, creators have been using that alc/powder paste for awhile now, BUT...! They coat their molds with the paste before pouring their resin. They *don't* coat their finished product using paste, so far as I've seen, so you're still doing something unique-ish? 😁👍

I love that you are always thinking and experimenting trying different things.

Michelle from glitz and glitter had used tack it let it dry and used flakes to fix a mistake and then does it intentionally to finish a certain mold. Nice to know about the alcohol too!

For your stencil idea. you could get a misting spray bottle and spray on the alcohol and let dry, peel off the stencil, and then add the dust on the powder. I'm going to give it a try, but my videos are on wire wrapping. Evan though i do make cabochons sometimes .

Hi Daniel, love your vids, to get multi layering with the technique your using try using Speedball metal foil adhesive with a brush it is extra sticky,dried clear, it layers mica powder beautifully with out the fear of muddying your colours, you can control where it goes and a lil bit goes a long ways.. I use it all the time to coat my wood shapes with mica powder and coat with resin and it stops my wooden shapes from absorbing too much of the resin, it also gives resin a surface to bond with if you want to dome. Word of warning, be sure to clean your brush immediately after or you will ruin your brush, I just use disposable eyelash adhesive brushes.

I have this mould. I use it with air dry and polymer clay for decorating. Must try the resin! Nice idea.

Daniel this video just triggered something for me! Okay if you remember a while back Claire did a video on clear stickers being visible in resin and you had suggested to me to try to take off the backing first and I tried that and it was still visible but what if we dusted the back of the stickers?!? Oh and try foil adhesive then dusting the backs! It works like a dream on cured resin! Beautiful results! ❤

Yes! I would try any tackifier (stays tacky) that’s used in the tumbler communities. Some, use 2 coats, let dry in between.

@@melhaury I usually use one thick coat of the artistic painting studio brand and it works great! But alcohol is easier because you don't have to wait for it to dry before adding the pigment to the piece but I do think you would get a better coating all over with the foil adhesive.

I do this on my uv gel nails. However I flash cure, add the powder then full cure. The flash cure would partially set the back of the seahorse making it sticky. ❤️🇦🇺 they look lovely 😊

I work with UV resin, and I recommend trying alcohol wipes / pads, I get them at costco here in the US - they’re heavily saturated, (like for cleaning an area of skin before getting an injection / immunization) so might work better than the paper towel method! I have several Seahorse moulds, including this one. I love the effects on the Seahorses, they are beautiful. I also use Isoprol with mica's & turn it into paint, to paint my moulds, it gives beautiful effects too. 😊❤

I use gilding paste Daniel. A thin coat and the flakes go on beautifully. It does remain a bit tacky, however, if you're backing it, that shouldn't be an issue. Thanks, V

So um, with those fondant molds, I mean there's no set rules per say, but they have doubles for a reason, so you can put the two halves together to make a whole sea horse if you want. Or leave it flat to put it more flat on a cake. But yeah personally I use the Falken to paint the actual mold before I epoxy and the textures and different colors are just phenomenal doing it like that bc the epoxy picks up the flakes leaving less to pick up. But love your vids. I always learn something new. Thanks for posting!

I’ve used gilding glue or just plain nail glue… works really well too… never thought about using alcohol for this,,, very interesting idea.

I had an issue the other day. So I tried dipping my brush in a bit of UV resin, then dip it in the flakes and it went on lovely…the finish looked very nice! It was very intense and not thin & patchy like with the alcohol.

Wonderful work as always. As for backing things another thing I’ve seen in the past is someone mixed some mica powders in to a few drops of alcohol and just used that as a paint. I’ve tried it and it did work with epoxy resin as well as helps when painting a mold when the powder doesn’t want to stick or just not building up enough on the surface.

I’ve seen people use alcohol with mica to help paint it on- I never considered trying it with the chameleon flakes! Nice!!

I have also had this problem of adhesion of chameleon flakes & I found hair lacquer worked fine !

Hi Daniel for coating non level items I use a bowl of uncooked rice to place them on this helps level them and any over pour just goes down into the rice,

I recommend getting a fine mist spray bottle for your 99.9% isopropyl alcohol. The reason the alcohol doesn’t work for epoxy is that it breaks down epoxy. Instead of making it tacky, it slowly dissolves it.

Just use black, white, purple or whatever color gel polish on the backs and a no wipe gel coat. Nail tech trick. You can also give it a wipe with acetone that will make it sticky, just a gentle wipe. Also probably depends on what UV you use.

@@daniel..cooper just tried the hairspray technique on a coaster, see how that turns out 😂 only been doing epoxy resin craft for a month, I did the shampoo one with UV resin and colour it first it worked well, then put all the different things I made from it into a skull so it looked like a puzzled brain 😂

Hi there... Celesté here from South Africa... Hope you are well... Thought I might ask if you have ever tried doing small areas of baking in white or black Gel UV Nail Polish, then cure under the light, a quick wipe with pure Acetone to remove stickiness and then you can put clear gel UV Mail Polish over and cure under the light and then nust a quick wipe with Acetone to remove stickiness and everything is sealed... I painted a cabachon eye iris like that, came out perfect... No waste of your UV Resin or shrinkich... Hope it works for you too... Try something small... Good Luck🎉 10:40

So… I knew about the isopropyl alcohol trick and I figured it out by accident! I used it on UV resin as well as epoxy on both small projects and large projects. You should try to use a stencil either the isopropyl as well as free hand patterns or embellishments. You basically create a liquid mixture with the isopropyl and a mica powder. Paint on your design and let it dry before adding a top coat very carefully because after it dries the mica powder can shift when pulling your top coat to the edges if you touch it with your tool.

Hi Daniel 🤗 try using Elmer's tac'n stik ( or something similar) to hold your piece in place and leveled while backing them, works for me 🙌

The way the chameleon flakes flew everywhere reminded me of magnets repelling each other. I wondered if you put the kettle on, would the humidity help keep the flakes under control?
