Thanks Basso! There's a new version of this song? I didn't even know! The world of bass wouldn't be the same without all of your songs :)

I was a custom home theater installer for several years. I worked for a Sunfire dealer and have owned several subs from different manufacturers including a Sunfire True sub 10". The Sunfire was not only the worst sounding.. But also the least reliable. I had to have the driver replaced 3 times on my True 10.. Shortly after the 3rd driver replacement.. The amp caught fire.. I mean SERIOUSLY caught fire... The sub was a total loss. do you have any idea what it feels like to have to throw away a $2k sub??? It sucks!!! The sub burned up exactly 2 days beyond the warranty being up. When I called Sunfire to see what they were willing to do about it. They advised me to throw it out and buy a new sub. Remember.. I worked for a dealer... I don't care what anyone says... Sunfire produces garbage!

+Frank Kerstein The 'new' Sunfire is garbage. When Sunfire was headed by Bob Carver, products and CS were much, much better. Regarding actual quality, they sound great - when working. Reliability is admittedly not a strong point with these subs. The MKII is the most notorious one for the caps fail in the amp. Many original True subs are still going; it is because they replaced the caps in the MKII with cheaper, chinese IIRC ones which only last 15 or so years. Luckily there are a few good people out there who to this day still repair and restore these units. For sheer size, almost nothing beats them even today. They just don't like to be crossed over very high either - best paired with mains which are capable of going down to 50Hz really.

Cap issue these days is really linked to a company their want product to fail and have the worse engineer in the world. 5000 hour japaness cap rated at 105c are now everywhere even in cheap garbage.

Although I don't know what it's like to have to throw away a $2,000 home powered subwoofer. I do understand the frustration in having to replace the drivers. I have a $400 Yamaha 10in downfireing powered subwoofer. It's on its 3rd driver right now! The amp on the back gets so hot at times it's just a matter of time before it catches fire! But I think it may have something to do with the manufacturers. What they do is allow the user to have too much maximum volume control. Thus resulting in distortion, clipping and heat making the unit unreliable and failing in a short time frame. In this competitive world who doesn't want to just crank the volums and gains to the max and just leve them there. Not having to worry.

As long as you have lots of power and a tough driver, small boxes can make a big sound. I'm sure a big folded horn with the same amp would shake the place down though. Plug it into a Bill Fitzmaurice Tuba HT haha

I have this sub in line with my home theater. It compliments 2 Bose 901's, 2 Bose 301's, 3 Realistic Minumus 7's (center and side channels), and 2 Brazilian full range speakers with Kevlar cones, mounted in Radio Shack Solo 1 speaker boxes from the 60's. Especially when watching movies, the Carver will really make you jump out of your seat. I try not to get too crazy with it, like in your video. Things start falling onto the floor, and it was pretty expensive. I do "blow out the dust" occasionally. ;)

It's a fantastic sub, NOTHING compares to it in this size category, for the amount of bass it puts out from such a small enclosure is stunning. Nice setup man!

I agree. This enclosure is perfect for the amp & speakers. I have a 30hz test disc that I can play at full volume, and things start to move around the house, like pictures, lamps, anything on the walls. My cat hides under the bed. I don't use it much when listening to music; the 901's carry the bass duties quite well, but when I watch a movie, it's full on with the LFE channel.

go to ebay. it's an incredible sub.

My Sunfire true sub MKii is working fine till last year. It failed on they as soon as I power it up. I heard loud pulps inside the cabinet when I powered it up. I disassembled the unit and found out that the optical coupler explode and melted several small resisters around it. I gave up repairing it and modified it into a passive woofer driven by crown dsi2000 DSP amplifier.

The box does exhibit a lot of shaking when the drivers are moving a lot - you're right. This is why when building boxes, you brace them - the enclosure is supposed to have as little impact on the sound as possible, in terms of resonances. This box is barely big enough to hold the amp, passive radiator and driver - there is no space for bracing! So it does shake, but not too extreme. Thanks!

NiteShayde1 Its a great sub! the excursion was insane and the way the subwoofer was dancing was crazy to! i had an old logitech 4 inch sub that SOMEHOW managed to make the top of its box flex slightly (33 watt sub) but it did not do alot more but what can you expect from a 4 inch sub? XP Anyways i have an 8 inch sub which shakes my house but.. for 10 inches that sub was murdering it!

***** Cody Y Ok this is my opinion on the SP2500. The speakers are shit, like i said the subwoofer was blown after a month. However the quality of the sound was amazing at the beggining but into more use i noticed rattling in the sub and the sattelites startet bottoming out.

you have no idea what u are saying.. just compare this with any 2000 rms watt amp and u will see. im sure this little thing will play better and to top this i plugged a kicker l7 to it and guess what almost fried it. was already smelling pretty bad

It's much more powerful than my sub (Monitor Audio Radius 390) but it looks like its been built like shit. If it was designed properly, the cabinet would be built to be sturdy and not shake or flex at the power it puts down. It always seems to me that products aimed for the American market are loud and powerful, but not built with quality or class. Products aimed at the UK market aren't as powerful, but are built to a higher standard like the Bowers and Wilkins PV1D, Monitor Audio Gold W15 or even the KEF Reference 8B which is twice the cost of this Sunfire sub.

You're not exactly wrong. The problem is that there is no space whatsoever for any bracing inside the enclosure - the combination of the large motor, PR and amplifier make it impossible for even dowels to be employed. With the displacement of the aforementioned parts taken into account, the internal airspace is ~0.3 cubic feet. It's far from an elegant sub; it's inherent design means it simply uses brute force to produce any output. Remarkable for it's size, but there are many better subs out there if size is no issue.

NiteShayde1 I get what you mean with there being no room due to the woofer size, but then the box should of been designed bigger to accodomate for the internal bracing. For £2000 I'd rather spend it on the Monitor Audio Gold W15. Sure it may not have as much excursion and power, but it's built like a tank, looks and feels classy and it works well with both movies and music too.
