27 Year Old Rusty Rear Arches and Much More Made New Again! - WRX Restoration

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Welcome to the long awaited video of my Subaru Impreza getting the rear arches treated just like the fronts. I hope you will enjoy it.
So just like the front end the first job is to get the car in the air and get the wheels off. Once that was done it was time for the real work to begin.
The bumper was taken off for easy access and the brake calipers and discs removed, That gave me good access to all the other parts and i methodically stripped all the parts out one by one.
After everything was removed from the arches and rear floors i made a thorough visual inspection before proceeding to the cleaning stage. I soaked the rear floors and arches in a powerful de-greaser for half an hour before power washing it all off to leave spotlessly clean arches and floors.
I then made a rust repair on the lower bumper mounting point where it had rotted through, I made a cardboard template then transferred that to fresh steel and worked it until i got the shape just right. The rotten metal was then cut out and the repair panel welded in. I then made a nice shiny new bracket for holding the bumper.
I then went underneath the car and set about treating all the surface rust underneath. I ground and wire brushed all the corrosion off then treated the areas with Hydrate 80 rust treatment, left it to cure for 24hrs then it was time for some raptor liner.
I mixed up a total of 4 bottles of raptor liner to ensure good coverage and protection for the floor in years to come. Once applied it was left to cure and i made a start on prepping all the drive train and suspension components for refitting but the video was long enough already so i will save that for another episode.
so anyway Enjoy and please leave a like and comment if you enjoyed this video :)
See you al again soon

A little History
The project in question is the engine bay in my 94 Subaru Impreza WRX. As i can be heard saying in the intro of this video i love impreza's and i wanted a rust free one as all the UK ones suffer from lots of rust issues so in 2004 i imported this car from Japan and it was totally rust free when it arrived all those years ago. It has a couple of blisters here and there now but thats to be expected when living in Scotland.
Anyway im getting off track, I was having lots of fun driving the car at full boost everywhere until 2014 when the thought popped into my head " lets go for more power" so i took the engine out and begun the process of having it all upgraded, better gaskets, race bearings, forged pistons, con rods etc etc then life got in the way and the engine was put to the side and the car was stored in a shed for the past 5 years.
The initial condition of the car looks horrifying but its only a thick layer of dust and crud on it and there is a good layer of carnuaba wax separating all the crud from the paint so a quick pressure wash and she'll be looking good again .
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A new addition to my videos from now on will be a water mark and my channel name popping up in random places throughout the video as im getting rather tired of people re-uploading my content as their own i hope you guys understand.
If you like what you see and have any ideas for the channel or would even like to donate something to restore to the channel please get in touch. :)
And as usual if you liked the video please like share and subscribe and help the channel grow.

Why do I love your channel? Look at 13:50 where you punch the sheet metal on the bumper bracket to curve and match the factory body lines! I would have simply would have ran a bunch on weld to hold it on and sanded from there, but you took the time to actual make it "factory" keep up the great work! Would love to see a new sub project soon! Cheers!
