Thanks Peter for explaining what all the parameters mean for that tool. I would still be looking trying to figure it out. I also appreciate the honesty in reviewing the tool. It helps all your viewers determine if it works for them and the manufacturer in improving the camera. Thanks for such a complete review and your time. 73.

These cams definitely come in handy, especially in the ham radio world, HVAC and lot's of other uses. Nice review Peter thank you for sharing.

Good evening, thanks for compare the two camera and for the explanation. This helps to understand what the spec numbers stand for. I whould very appreciate a next video to understand how to adjust "emissivity" and "reflected temperature" parameters to correctly measure the temperature on electronics components. Thanks again Andrea

Hi Peter, to emulate the MSX feature of the FLIR, you could overlay a video stream from a regular webcam (optical camera) attached to the TOPDON on the side, using OBS or similar software to merge the two streams together. It would require calibration to match the size of the two images, but it can be done in OBS directly. 73

Hi Peter. Another very interesting and informative video, I am currently looking for an IR camera to use as an electronic fault finding tool and the TOPDON TC004 has very impressive IR resolution for this price point, I didn't know of these cameras. I was considering the FLIR ONE Gen 3 as I do like the optical overlay that adds detail to the components. As you say if the next gen of TC004 had an overlay camera it would be an incredible bit of kit epically at these prices. Thanks for a very helpful video, best regards from the UK.

Very good. If you want similar spec camera you can get an "InfiRay P2 Pro" which has same resolution with < 50mK and 25Hz frame rate together with an add on lens to zoom in, for half the price.

Excellent Review. Here's a question: Can the Topdon, or similarly capable IR camera, help to find a 500 mAh parasitic draw within a vehicle? For example, by looking at the fuse box, the relays, the radio components, etc. Or, would such a small parasitic draw likely have too small of a heat signature to be detected?

  • @TRXLab

No, 500mA does not produce heat on fuses, which are good for 20-100+ Amps. That can't be found with an IR cam.

Anything from China is going to out price a western company's product. Might be good for the consumers in the short run but if Chineese companies put all the western companies out of business then that is not good for us in the long run. Just something to keep in mind when buying. I don't want to live in a world where we are dependent on one country for all our goods.

I agree! But problem is a lot of there equipment is almost as good as 1st world countries thru stolen technology. It's hard to pay double price for something because where it's made. Epically in my case , I don't have a lot of extra money. But I do agree it's dangerous depending on your CCP for our needs.

@@richardcook4643 The people of China do not line up to purchase our products; Hence the trade deficit we have every year with them. We did not learn to stop relying on the Middle East for our oil, and we pay for it now. Short cited thinking is destroying this country.

@Richard Cook The problem is worse in the case of China because of the political structure of that country. One man could suddenly decide to stop selling things to certain other countries thus causing economic disruption in the target country.
