Gwyn's army in the events of ds3 aren't even close to this army of nameless king. A few silver knights, fewer black knights, and nameless king, that it. He could hold off for more than a minute, especially with the gargoyles.

2:39 for anyone wondering. One or three nameless kings struck through the coffin where the main deacon is, if he gets killed im assuming the game just skips to "everyone dies" mode. And ends the fight early. That or the did all the damage to him as he spawned and he just ended them all

When royce goes down, all the deacons die instantly. I'm guessing that Royce is coded to have a giga shockwave on death that only leaves the player unharmed and instantly kills everything else, hence the namelesses all died.

It always happens with Deacon's fight in Boss v Boss battles, all the enemies in the arena are coded to die after the main deacon dies.
