    My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!

    Bedankt! I am Norwegian and trying to learn Dutch, this is really helpful! I recognice that alot of words is close to Norwegian and English, making it a bit easier to learn. Example: Ja in dutch is the same as norwegian and goedemorgen = god morgen.

  • @jaysimoes3705

    @jaysimoes3705

    Should be very easy for you. I noticed as a Dutch I could read Norwegian without a lesson and get 80% or more of it. Spoken it is more difficult but I can still understand a lot. I think it would take me a week exposure to understand spoken Norwegian well enough to just understand conversations but unsure. Form the Norwegians I met abroad it seems to work vice versa and when English words allude us we use Norwegian or Dutch words and it tends to work out well.

    I don't know if we are worse or they are, but I noted that written Danish is pretty easy for us Duthc. Many words the same, I got by without a lesson from the get go. However when Danes speak I am mostly lost. And it is because they pronounce the words so differently from ours and tend to leave out a lot.

    Hopefully Indonesians can teach the language so that never leave the influence behind because Indonesia is a colony by the Dutch as Dutch East Indies and there are some places are Dutch in Origin before Indonesian names such as Jakarta is Batavia, Bogor is Buitenzorg, Cirebon is Chirebon, Jayapura is Nue Hollandia, etc. In the United States, Dutch is also the language in New York, Massachusetts and New Jersey because of historical references and immigration history such as in New York as New Amsterdam and they have some places in New York named after places in the Netherlands such as Nassau, Harlem and Batavia

    Precies. En de derde persoon enkelvoud van het werkwoord "willen" is daarom "wil." De tweede persoon enkelvoud daarentegen is "wilt," en niet "wil," dat velen verkeerd zijn gaan gebruiken zodat uiteindelijk de taalunie het van lieverlee maar is gaan toestaan.

    The strangest sentence for me was "Mag ik de rekening alstublieft?" There's no action word in it.. In Afrikaans it is "Kan ek die rekening KRY asseblief?", or in English "Can I GET the bill please?"

  • @PamukPrensesXXXX

    @PamukPrensesXXXX

    Жыл бұрын

    You are correct. Actually this sentence is wrong Dutch; it does need an active, main verb besides an auxiliary verb. Unfortunately many Dutch have forgotten how to speak proper Dutch because of the rampant take-over of the language by English. "Can I get the bill please," should be: " Kan ik de rekening krijgen alstublieft?" Here "mag," the imparative from "mogen" (being allowed to) is an auxiliary verb used on its own without a main verb. This is incorrect usage that has become normalised and now it is seen as correct. As Dutch is an Indo-European language descended from proto-Germanic and is closely related to German (the Dutch, Germans and Belgians used to be one people who got separated) and also related to English (Frankish language) it should follow a similar logic to build a sentence; hence most of the time there is a need for a main, active verb.

    Never ever use "Subtitles" or in Dutch "Ondertiteling" in KZread. Unless you want to have a laugh. And Stella? The boon life throws at you is pronounced 'boen' in English (like the Dutch word for the English scrub) not bóón which means bone in English and bean in Dutch. If Dutch start throwing beans they are drunk.
