Anger and misery are really really addictive when you sit and meditate on it. Letting go is hard. Forgiving is hard. Real life example would be my father. He didnt see me when I was kid out of laziness. I would be on the front porch waiting for him. He would never show. And obviously that hurts as a child and grows with me into manhood. That resentment. That hurt child is now a hurt man. Lacking the masculine guide needed for proper development as a person. He didnt give that to me. I was mad. I was angry. I was hurt. I felt unloved. But I let it go. When it was everything I thought about, daresay, consuming me. I let it go and let that inner child move on and heal. I have a wife now, a child, and I found happiness. Yoda is correct. Holding on to pain, sadness and resentment, is the same as drinking a poison and expecting your enemy to die
