Excellent advice. When we look at used gear we always want those "pawn shop" prices, but when we're selling our gear we think it belongs in the Smithsonian & commands top dollar!

That's true, it's much better to be honest. It's better for our conscience and I believe we are accountable to God any way aside from the hassle lying to people can cause you.

I have read not to buy more expensive guitars off CL. Like American Strats. I purchased a Deluxe Powerhouse Strat only to discover that it had none of the original electronics. It had been swapped out to regular pickups and electronics. I paid 400 and it came with a Hard case. I will keep it since I will never be able to sell it without the original parts. It is a rare Carmel Metalic color.

My biggest frustration with ebay is people listing Squire guitars as Fender or Epiphone or Orville as Gibson, you have to scroll through dozens of high priced Squires or Epi's mixed in with lower priced Fender or Gibson Bargains. Annoying!!!!!

Couldn't agree more. I noticed a posting on E-Bay that listed "Fender Strat great condition etc. for a price that you would expect to pay for a MX Strat. Scroll down and there she was nice looking black strat with 12 pictures of everything except the head stock. So I contacted the seller told him I was interested in the guitar but i wanted to see a picture front and back of the head. Few days later e-bay tells me i have an email so i look and there it is "SQUIRE". I send a message to this idiot and tell him he is dishonest trying to pass a Squire for a Fender. He sent a reply quickly that said "Fender makes Squire also some curse words I won't repeat. Also, there is nothing wrong with Squire's I have had several and they all hold their own in tone and playability. Just accept the fact that you may have to do a little fret dressing and an intonation otherwise I like Squire's and Epi's can't afford a gibson.

@@eddiebingham4790 There's someone on ebay at the minute advertising top end vintage guitars starting at no reserve, if you read the comments it says I am selling this guitar for someone else, please contact me if you want to buy, I google searched the pictures and he had just taken them from shops, obvious scam, he'd ask for a credit card payment and your money would be gone! lol it was like a 60's fender strat with no reserve !

I went into a guitar shop many years ago and a couple came in and they wanted to sell a guitar with no strings. How is the person supposed to hear the sound, feel the action and see if there are any other problems with it? This is laughable.

Great video. Things work a little different in Japan. No Ebay and no one really used Reverb either. I sell on Yahoo auctions. Yahoo handles the money transactions so I don't need to worry about cash, and since it is an auction, there is no haggling between the buyer and seller, and I have no need to contact the buyer or even give out my address. 100% safe.

Hi. Good video. Thank you for posting. The volume is very low even at max setting. You might want to adjust it when editing.

Lot of great information Thanks the only thing i would add is if you do have a cash transaction make sure it's all good money.. case in point, i had a co-worker sell a very expensive firearm thru craigs list. He specified cash or certified check. Buyer shows up with a wad of cash all 100.00 bills rolled up. Problem was the only real money was the first 1000. 00 the rest was all "stage money". My friend was scammed, went to the police and reported the situation. I moved to a different town and I don't know if he ever got it straightened out. Just wanted to add this comment. Otherwise, great video. Thanks Fast Eddie

How about how to sell a guitar that does not say Fender or Gibson On the headstock? There are at of great guitars out there that are not "lifestyle" brands and people will buy them if you want to give them away but how do you maximize what you can get out of smaller and custom brands?

The reality is that although you can't sell smaller brand guitars for as much money on the used market but you also don't loose as much in depreciation. You loose a heck of a lot when you walk out of the store with a PRS, Fender or Gibson straight away.
