Legend of Dragoon story is awesome.. you get so immersed in being a dragoon but you also can't stop feeling sorry for the winglies.. The backstory is just sad.. and fighting the ghosts of the previous dragoon gives you more insight into the Dragoon's emotions and the turmoil each of them faced. Side quests are also fun, like the stardust side quest. Sometimes the annoying thing is having to complete a perfect-timed hit so that the dragoon attack combo all connect.

Chrono Cross is a masterpiece! I love this game and I will never forget it!

Surprise to see Hoshigami on your list. The difficulty of thay game is so hard, many people quits and call it a trash game coz of that. But if you can manage its difficulty, its a hidden gem but not everyone.

Vivi exploring Alexandria the first time. What an amazing time back then. ❤

I clicked on this just to see how Vagrant Story ranked on the list... Surprisingly, im not disappointed at all that it is nowhere to be found, as compared to ranking low on the list. The game is so unique, way ahead of its time in its map design and gameplay mechanics, that it could just not fit into any genre.

Good list overall, but I feel like Legend of Dragoon should be way higher on the list. It's probably Top 5 for me personally, but I think it should be in the Top 10 overall. I also feel like Legend of Legaia and Breath of Fire 3 should be way higher on this list.

Playing through LOD again rn, and I'd have to say I do feel like it was a little low on the list maybe top 10 imo. I have always felt that some of the day to day conversations have a weirdly misogynistic tone to them (especially when Shana is involved), and you can see everything coming from a mile away as well. Combat was fun introducing QTE'S was a super cool move I wish more turnbased games did. But I did hate the item stock being limited considering there isn't a full-time healer unless you keep Shana (worth it)

Please! Help me find a game! I remember the game from childhood, the genre was JRPG, it was in Japanese, little known. I lost the disc (From memory, I remember the following moments in fragments, because I played at 9-10 years old: The game has a top view, real time control 1. Protagonist - a guy, several times the control went for other characters. 2. The game starts in the laboratory, there is a battle with a couple of enemies as I remember. The second location is a ruined modern city. At the end is the boss. 3. I remember a beach, a forest, a desert, space (hard mission on a spaceship), then a shipwreck. 4. Boss fight, 3v1, in the forest. 5. Laboratory, some secret base of scientists. 6. Desperate search for a certain girl, who by the end of the level was injured (in my opinion on the beach) 6. Constant battles with robots, and Protagonist has his own robot. Ship battles in space were also done in the traditional JRPG style, turn-based. 7. Locations were loaded during transitions. 8. The atmosphere of the game is quite depressing and gloomy. It's not Xenogears!

Ahh, wish i were a lil kid again. JRPG'S, like Suikoden 2 had me hooked trying to recruit every 108 characters. You missed Alundra 2 - its an underrated game. My all time faves among others.

Good list, but it's a little weird that you ranked Suikoden 1 above 2 (especially after saying that 2 improved on everything from 1). Also, I assume that you're not counting SRPGs. I'd expected to see Vandal Hearts 1 & 2.

Out of FF7 8 and 9, I agree that 9 is the best one out of all 3. I played the crap out of all 3 of them too. It's just unfortunate that FF9 was forgotten at one point because of the acceleration of the ps2 and FFX etc.

For me: 1. Breath of Fire 3 2. FF8 3. FF7 4. FF9 I replayed Breath of Fire more than 5 times now on android emulator. The trainer system, the fairies, the fishing and fishing merchants, the story, the dragon form system, Rei's weretiger form. The games is just sooo good Plus its so long I don't know how they fit it on one CD

My top 5 is 5.Xeno Gears ( Would be higher if the second disc was not a Freakn book) 😂😂 4.Breath of fire 4 3.Chrono Cross 2.Suikoden 2 1. FFIX Was so sad to see Suikoden 1 higher than suikoden 2. Suikoden 2 just Touches your inner soul It just makes you feel the emotions the Director wanted you to feel. Heck if not for the Longer story of FFIX, Suikoden 2 would be the best for me

Vanguard bandits may fall under strategy RPG category and I do find it annoying that it's not on the list. I remember beating it on PS1 and it was quite hard:D

@@CrazyFriendlyGamerAlex like many games from back then it only seemed hard cus you were a kid at the time.....I did the ruin branch a week or so ago and while the 69ers/Sharkings are still cheap as hell, it wasnt nearly as hard as when i first played the game decades ago in school lol....also nothing like missing with a 99% accuracy slash while the enemy nails you with a 10% tackle lol.

Great list. I'd replace some of those games for Parasite Eve 1 , Parasite Eve 2 , Vagrant Story , Star Ocean Second Story etc. FF9 wouldn't be near my #1.

Im 35 yrs old now and I almost played all the game on this list. But FF9 to be #1 ? And Persona 2 to be on the list ??? Thousand Arms was much better than Persona 2. Its my humble opinion..

I remember sending my brother to this one rental store that was going out of business to pick up Breath of Fire III. He came home with one of the ps1 Romance of the three kingdoms games. Boring. I.was pretty sick and couldn't leave the house at the time. I.told him thanks but he shouldn't have bought that game. (He also bought himself some games with his own cash.)
