Pariskunnan Ossi-koiraalla on rengas oikeassa jalassa. Ossi on tavattu pesällä ensimmäisen kerran vuonna 2014.
Short description of the nest:
Nest #1 is located in the Satakunta region in Western Finland. Ospreys have nested there since 2005. The male Osprey, Ossi, has inhabited the nest since 2014. He has a ring on his right leg and according to the ringing data he hatched in Karkku, Sastamala in 2009. Alma, the female, doesn’t have a ring and therefore her age and hatching location are unknown.
Ospreys have nested at the site from 2005 through 2020. In 2019 Alma and Ossi’s nesting failed due to a Goshawk attacking the nestlings. Nevertheless, the pair returned the following year and raised three fledglings. Since 2017 Alma and Ossi have raised a total of eight fledglings.

    4:15 alma gives chase to the Raven 4:21 mid air collision, looks like Alma caught the Raven 4:23 both land on the forest floor, just a bit above one where one of the twigs of the nest is on the feed 5:34 movement at the landing site and sounds indicating the struggle is still going on. Movement persists for a fair bit, and Alma's fairly visible 7:25 Raven starts doing loud agitated calls again, with more movement at the landing site. This persists for the next minute or so and Alma is still seen moving at this point for a while 12:02 Raven begins to make a few more agitated/excited calls, though much less alarmed than last time. Movement is also visible at the landing site 12:34 the light shading on the forest floor is covered by black, this is the last prominent movement on the forest floor over the next few minutes 15:40 Raven walks away from the landing site 15:58 Raven takes off to a nearby tree and rests for a bit 17:06 Raven takes off from perch and heads to nest 20:54 Alma's mate shows up, after a couple of seconds he does a flyby near the nest 23:26 after having returned to the nest, the mate gives chase to the Raven, and with a fresh catch still in his talons no less 25:44 Raven seen going back to the original landing site, presumable where Alma is probably incapacitated and unable to fly 26:45 another scuffle between what's presumably a grounded Alma and the Raven. This goes on for a while 30:20 Raven walks away from Alma again and takes off. Based off of sound, he likely chases Alma's mate for the next little bit 35:31 Alma can faintly been seen walking a little out of sight behind a tree. Still alive at this point 53:30 Fox shows up roughly around here, probably attracted by all the noise and calls that have been going on over the past several minutes 53:38 sounds and movement from the short struggle between Alma and the fox 54:10 Fox becomes clearly visible

    That's how it go in the wild. It's still sad to see though. Also, there's no respectful way to say this but the third one was smart from jump. He kept a distance, laid low, was very alert and tried to camouflage.

    A lucky strike with that massive beak incapacitated the Osprey. Didn't kill her, but did enough damage to her that left her grounded and ultimately killed by that Fox. Nature.

    Why did the Raven kill these chicks? Does not seem for food. Territory?

  • @venomtrue

    @venomtrue

    2 жыл бұрын

    Good question. Food isn't competition between those, Osprey's hount fishes, Raven's eat pretty much everything. Territory- yes, for some point. Osprey's look like a predator's (but they aren't), Raven's have gut's to attack predators nest's propably to avoid some likely danger for their own chicks. Osprey isn't any danger for Raven (but will protect chicks at any costs ofc.) but different story with Red Tail Hawk's for example. Raven didn't see difference, but since Osprey isn't hard match for Raven, Hawk's and Owls are real deal.

    Maybe it searched for a fish, but Alma attacked fiercely and it ended up as a heavy battle. The raven had to defend itself too. If you noticed, it left after it found a fish.

    Very much territorial. I've seen other videos where the ravens attacked other birds without any food in their nests. And in those videos the ravens ended up just killing the chicks but not eating them. IMHO it's Ravens' way to manifest dominance.

    Crow family will attack anything smaller, like a cat does. Found some crows / magpies i can't remember which, possible two crows and a magpie, they were throwing around a finch on our tennis court. I went over to stop the attack and the little bird went peacefully.

    I think the raven and osprey got tangled talon-to-talon on the ground after crashing to the ground. The fox was already close by and made a b-line after hearing the battle cry's from both birds: I think the fox went after the osprey because it was on top of the raven and the raven made its escape - the movement I saw looked like the osprey was fighting with the fox.

    They don't attack only for food. Sometimes there is some animosity between the two species and they just attack to kill. I've seen ravens attacking other birds even when there was no food in the nest, and even there the raven never returned to eat the chicks. It probably exhibits some dominance by destroying nests of other birds.
