On my TS-50 I had the very same problem - an oscillating audio amplifier. After replacing all the electrolytic caps, the fault persisted. Eventually I soldered a 100 nF cap parallel to C124, that cured that nasty sound. Since then, it works like a charm.

Another beautiful diagnose and repair , I knew it was capacitor problems from the beginning as I have owned 4 TS50's and all of them have leaky cap syndrome at some stage. What I didn't know was where to directly go as you did...... I would have just swapped out all caps as I have done before..... Thanks for a great start to the year Peter..... best regards from New Zealand

Hello Peter, again a great job on your repair work. My TS-50s did easily 180W-PEP. To prevent from overheating finals I made the Fan spinning on low rpms during standby mode and running higher speed with rising temperature while tx. Those radios were solid built to last but many of them had heatsink porblems even untouched / unmodified by the Owner. Happy sunday & 73 de Your Friend Uncle Guenter

There are some odd tripple caps in it, it will have to spend a bunch of caps and time, but it is worth it. All caps are 450V rated, quite handy. I habe a small tester with ceramics for the audiopath. ja kenne ich mit der Vollberschäftigung lol.

Eigentlich müsste man ,al wieder etwas entwickeln. LG an Dich,Peter. 73. Freue mich auf Part II der Restauration.

SMD's were getting really popular when I got out of the business in 1998........I buy Nichicon and Rubicon caps only , If I can use a old style cap and cut the leads short , then bend them sideways close to the board I will do that , MORE life from the cap like that ....

As usual, nicely presented video from Peter. However I'm not sure that leaving the TX power about 50% higher than max is acceptable - I hope the owner was told about this in case he was unaware and later on cooked his finals because it was left set far too high. I feel there is a degree of responsibility with the technician to set important things to be as they should - if this rig had been mine I would have been grateful for it to be reset to the factory limit in case it ended up fried because I hadn't been told of its excess wattage.... I wonder what the TX signal was like for harmonics with the settings at 150% of design max... No ham known to me would run a rig set like this, we'd all be happier by far to have factory settings restored to a rig of unknown history - these are super little rigs when in fair order, but they're getting nearer the grave with every year that passes!

That's why it's good to know something about electronics because of something breaks you can probably more than likely fix it yourself and fix other people's electronics too I have a flat screen TV that I haven't gotten around to fixing yet because I've been so busy and haven't gotten around to buy a replacement parts from I tested and troubleshot the board and it's shorts all over that board to the point to where I said forget it I'll just order another motherboard but I haven't gotten around to doing it yet

Hi Peter, thanks for the video. A simple question: my lithium battery is gone (unfortunately here in Africa I had to order it). Do you think that the power output is related to the protection done by the lithium battery? The radio doesn't give any output power and it has been in standby for sometime hence the Li-on battery gone. Thanks

The circuit diagram (12:19) doesn't make sense... Pin 7 is a bootstrap pin according to data sheet and appears to be decoupled to ground by C126 22uf. Surely a value this great would be shunting any audio from pin 6 by C125 47uf and have a very hard time??
