'24 Mtn sled weights revealed, wet weight comparisons of our test fleet of 2024 mountain sleds

Ойын-сауық

Hosted by Ryan Harris, joined in studio by Rhett Clark, Justin Stevens, Bruce Kerbs and Broc Genta. We weighed all of our test units and we discuss those weights. We weight everything full of gas and oil and with a spare belt (just how most people start their rides). We discuss how weight plays into handling and what matters on the mountain.

True story, Polaris holds more fuel, so Doo is even heavier than shown and yet when comparing Boost vs Turbo on the hill, the 24 Polaris boost gets walked all over, all day every day. It’s not even close. I’m amazed at how well Polaris ambassadors and marketing have kept mostly quiet Skidoo’s clear dominance since the G5. Doo is also admittedly not very good at self promo… At the end of the day, I get the brand loyalty and preference and ride with and respect and appreciate all brands, but truth is, the Polaris boost is a distant second to what the G5 turbo R offers.

Will be very interesting if Arctic Cat puts some of the light weight components on the 858 Catalyst that the Ascender Chassis has (Carbon Fiber TCL, Aluminum drive shaft and drilled rotor) that the current 600 Catalyst doesn't even have. We could see a wet weight

Lol. The triple comment is dumb. I think all the triples from 2000 or so were super reliable and more reliable than almost all of the newer twins, except maybe the Suzuki laydown 600/700/800. The only one that was garbage was the XLT. XLT still might be more reliable than a new Polaris twin:)

XLT isn’t garbage, it’s just down in power compared to the XCR600 and Ultra 680

You need to try the na 850 skidoo freeride.

Skidoo is heavier by numbers but feels lighter when riding in deep pow. Polaris feels lighter in harder snow..: who buys a mtn sled for crappy conditions?

Loved the podcast but I tried listening in the truck on the way back from island and your voice goes loud and then soft, making it difficult to listen to without fussing with the volume Nob all podcast. Just some constructive feedback

On earlier show, talked about brake issue(limp mode) with Polaris? Was that addressed?

We talk about that specifically in an upcoming episode review of the 24 Khaos RMK Boost 155 325.

I’m a believer in lightweight being better but I think a lot of it comes from balance and tuning. When my Boost is just about out of fuel it feels heavy even though it’s 60 pounds lighter than it was when it started the day. Really a stock Boost with a can running on fumes is probably within 20 pounds of a 9R with $10,000 in lightweight parts that’s full of fuel. Handling characteristics have way more effect on that lightweight feel than actual weight.

I agree with you guys most of the time but the triple talk i didnt agree with. 99 tcat thats built and its been a great sled its whole life. My dads the original owner. Cat was gonna release an 1100 Thundercat in 03 but scraped the idea because they were already releasing the f7 and the zr 900.

Why have 5 guys sitting around saying nothing, giggling and carrying on and not really giving any decent info at all. Most of them have likely ridden the new 858 and they said nothing about that, WTH this is a terrible podcast with even less actual info!!

the elephant is in the room, who cares about weight. talk about fixing Poo Poo's clutches and fuel pumps and Ski Doo's driver and tracks... Reliability is a hell of more important, then weight, when you depend on the sled to get you home...

It uses more gas. It needs an even bigger tank to make more apples to apples to a ski doo
