24 Minutes of Data and Geordi Being Friends :)
I am so normal about these sci-fi guys 😁
edit (pretty much the same thing i put on my data video):
ok guys I’m sorry about the sound quality. I recorded these clips on my phone after I had finished a few episodes at a time so the volume fluctuates. I would have fixed it if I wasn’ using imovie on my iphone😔 this is the same reason I missed some good scenes- sometimes I watched a lot in one day on my tv so there were episodes I forgot to comb through on my phone, and there were some that were so good I wanted to record the whole episode so I didn’t end up recording anything at all! unfortunately I can’t edit this video unless I want to reupload a new one, and I don’t really want to do that
thank you to the people who enjoyed this video and the other one! I genuinely did not expect this many people to see it😭 it’s really cool reading through all your comments about Data, Geordi, friendship and Star Trek🫶

11:04 when Geordi puts his hand directly in the line of fire of Data's phaser there's not a single inkling of doubt or fear in his body language. Even after what's happened, He still trusts Data not to hurt him. That's real platonic love right there. They are family.

He knew Data would never had hurt him willingly. They were so close that despite everything that had happened, he knew it was not Data at all but Lore controlling him. It’s just not in Data’s “DNA” (see what I did there?) to ever hurt anyone, least of all him. Data’s remorse is heartfelt. They truly got each other, and were brothers. How special it was that Dats was willing to destroy the chip and not even have it repaired, though it was something he thought he always wanted, to protect Geordi…his best friend. And your right, how Geordi wouldn’t let him destroy it. As we all know and love him though, Data had feelings all along.

Now you have me wondering whether I can relate this to the Kirk/Lion/courage-Spock/Scarecrow/brain-McCoy/Tinman/heart trio. The way Spock and Data are complements reminds me of A Christmas Carol and It's a Wonderful Life. Ebenezer Scrooge has to be shown that he's lived a bad life and hurt others, and George Bailey has to be shown that he's lived a good life and helped others. Spock is half human and wishes he weren't, and Data is not human and wishes he were. Some years ago, I got a new idea about Data and his quest for emotion. Maybe Soong programmed him to have emotion but not to recognize it as such: after all, so many things he says in those seven seasons are evidence of his feelings (he's glad, he's sorry, he wants this, he did not wish to do that, he values these things and those persons). Maybe his 'curse' (before the Generations movie, anyway) was to go around having emotions but failing to recognize them and longing to have what he thought he couldn't have, a counter to Spock's having emotions and recognizing them and wishing he didn't have them. Maybe this failure, to recognize his own capacity, is part of what makes Data human after all. (It's funny. I always defended the idea that Data was a being in all the ways that mattered (see, e.g., "The Measure of a Man")-but, now, when there's all this news about "artificial intelligence", I have no doubt that it has no value as a being and that we should feel free to turn it off and take it apart.)

Such best friends. They are truly brothers. It’s so funny how when they were talking to Captain Picard and Commander Riker in the ready room how close they were sitting, how their mannerisms were the same, and how they were finishing each others’ sentences. So cute. True buds right there.
“i am not offended. you are upset, your reactions are not surprising.” first of all i just think data is so naturally considerate because his ego never gets in the way. it’s lovely. but also i find this line interesting. it almost implies that data finds surprise offensive. if his friends started acting unpredictably he might be offended by that.

2:10 I don't know if anyone cares, but the Semaphore flags on Geordi's model of the HMS Victory reads "England expects that every man will do his D U T Y" This is the message Lord Nelson had communicated to his fleet just before the battle of Trafalgar which cost Nelson his life, but was a great naval victory for the British against Napoleon. Most of the words are written in Semaphore code, thus a grouping of specific flags would symbolize entire words. For example England is a white rectangle on a blue field flag, horizontal a yellow, red, yellow striped flag, and a yellow x on a blue field flag. However the word "Duty" had no such code in the book, so it had to be spelled out. Nelson originally wanted to use the word "confides" instead of "expects" but this too had no corresponding code and would be too much trouble to spell it out. Nice detail on that ship!
"As Dr. Pulaski would at this junction no doubt remind us, life is rarely fair." "Sorry, that just doesn't make it any better.." I wonder how many times I've been in Geordi's shoes there. so tiring.

The good thing is that Data is willing to learn such a saying is not helpful. "Realist" and "factual" people never get over this stubborn mindset, and confuse it with being good scientists. It's almost like an itch or quirk they can't resist, an urge to be negative, and not see options, since that what "science" (actually, their personal knowledge and understanding) tells them. I never much liked Pulaski, but I didn't know why back then, now it makes sense.

@@aronhighgrove4100 , I think part of why she failed as a character is that she was brought in only to resurrect Bones's curmudgeonliness, when Crusher had been so unpopular. It seems they forgot that Bones was also the voice of heart. Then again, I was thinking only of her mispronouncing Data's name and calling him "it". There is also the episode ("Penpals"?) in which she says, emphatically, "Data's friend is going to die. That means something"-and grumpy Worf is the one to dismiss her point by saying "To Data."
@moniquebaldea9299

@@aronhighgrove4100 I believe it was the opposite. Crusher was HUGELY popular, and I knew it and remember reading it at the time. People were PISSED when she wasn’t there for the second season. Don’t get me wrong, the actress who played Pulaski was a Star Trek legend and was in TOS as a doctor, but she just was unlikeable and didn’t work at all with TNG. There was no “chemistry” with the rest of the crew, and she played a character that dismissed and ridiculed the most popular character on the series and the most beloved. I knew she wasn’t staying and I remember there being a collective sigh when Crusher came back.
This is and probably will remain my favourite friendship in the Star Trek universe. For me, the most touching moment was highlighted here when Data agreed to help Geordi find his mum, knowing it was a violation of Captain Picard's direct order for Geordi not to use the interface suit again. Data knew Geordi would stop at nothing to find his mother if there remained the smallest chance she was still alive and Data wouldn't let his friend be alone in risking his life for something that meant a lot to him. That's the "ride or die" friendship a lot of people are/would be glad to have with someone.

La Forge, Worf, Data are great as Picard's Lieutenant Commanders.
Before I say anything else, Data has always been my favorite character in the whole of Star Trek as a franchise and I love when Geordi and Data bounce off each other. I think it's so sweet in "Identity Crisis" when Dr. Crusher says he's worried about Geordi and his response was he was "highly motivated." Another scene I feel that way about is when he spends the episode getting advice on how best to honor Geordi because he was Data's "best friend." He put together that party to celebrate his life. That said, TNG? Hey, TN...no! Over here! Yeah, good. What have I told you about continuity? No n...no I know it's a lot to keep track of! Come on! At 9:32 Data said he sunk to the bottom of a lake because he was too heavy. Remember "insurection?" Data says, "In the event of a water landing, I have be designed to serve as a flotation device." This video is making me notice consciously something I'd only ever picked up on subconsciously before tonight: LeVar Burton's voice changed significantly in those seven years. . . . Actually, it took a lot less than the seven years. I wonder whether perhaps he had surgery in his nose or throat, or perhaps the new VISOR fit differently in a way that affected his speech. "Includling the kiddlies!" XD I started giggling before Geordie did lol
What an actual, badass friend to have.
The Data/Geordi friendship is *TOO* wholesome, and hits on many levels: Work buddies, the nerd-friends, 'different but the same' the White/Black (Salt n Pepper) Best Friends 💯
I hope to GOD our AI comes out like Data...

Been waiting for this compilation, cheers
When I stroke the beard... THUSLY...
Two Data contractions in one scene! "I'd like a pound" and "I've told six hundred sixty-two jokes".

He also says one in DataLore when at the end Captain Ali ARD asks him how he is and he says “I’m fine.” I had to rewind that a couple of times to make sure I heard it right, especially because Lore in that episode ridicules Data for not being able to say contractions.

I love these 2 so much. What a fantastic show. One of the best shows ever made imo.
There is apparently talk of a remake of STTNG, nobody could portray Data like Brent Spiner, he is Data.

No.
4:23 "...or Zephram Cochrane engage the first Warp Drive!" Little did he know at that time, that he, in a few years, would get THAT wish fulfilled!
4:23 Don't worry, you'll be there, Geordi.
4:36 why do they look like two concrened fathers talking to their child
@jamieevans1542

So that would make Jean-Luc their child? Interesting concept…
4:23 foreshadowing
You did well with these two(?) Data data collections - I thoroughly enjoyed them, & found the experience quite sufficient.
Data with a beard. Mirror, Mirror, Revisited.
Oh my Data in Beard looks like General Zod hahahahah
By far my favourite friendship in the whole of Star Trek. Loved there scenes in TNG and Picard
Omigosh that took me back. Thank you so much
The original Troy and Abed 🥰
4:25 is the best.
4:20 "Or watch Zefram Cochrane engage the first warp drive." Little does he know, he'll get to see that too. And help!
Absolutely outstanding video many thanks 😊
A beautiful edit. I was hoping it might include movie scenes as well though.
When he yeeted him. 😂
Data's expression at 2:44. "Oops, I broke my favorite pet."

It's actually pretty realistic, since everybody in reality reacts different to a shock than Hollywood makes us believe one would...sure, there certainly ARE these types that scream their lungs out in terror, but the total opposite, becoming totally apathetic, exists as well.....just rarely shown by Hollywood since less cinematic effect.... ...that's what's so great about this show, the writing is so damn believable.
Includiling the kidilings
They had a quirky wonderful friendship...I read somewhere Data was 500 years old. No wonder He wanted to die.. Thank you for sharing thier unique friendship......
Wow, thank you so much for sharing this!!
