I met a homeless man,26 years old in bath Christmas 2019.. he had nothing and no one,..I sat with him,he didn't beg for money,he wanted a job!..he told me story's that would make your cry,I couldn't leave him on the street,I drove him to the nearest hostal ans paid fir him to have a bed fir the night,.... I now keep in contact with him,he won't be out food now, ....I can't help all but I will keep helping my new friend......

I've come close recently. Spent a few weeks living in the back of a lorry with my 10 year old daughter. The most vivid memory was dropping her at school in the morning, with that feeling of having not slept properly, and looking at the other parents and thinking how they would never understand what being in that situation does to you mentally. My clothes felt damp. I had to go to work. I would struggle to get through the day, knowing what I had to look forward to that night. There was absolutely no help on offer. No social housing. No affordable private rental. Now I resent the majority of people, who have never experienced what it's like to hit rock bottom.

I am so so sorry mate, I hope things get better for you, I live on a council estate, so many living comfortably on benefits with nothing wrong with them, drug addicts and drug dealers, claiming poor mental health, but actually just lazy and refusing to work ever again, my partner is an amputee and even when unemployed was told he was fit for work, not help available ever, this country is a very unfair place, that's all I can say.

Once i slept all night in a park when it was going frosty and misty, id been out on the lash with two drinking buddies of mine. We caught the last bus back from Bar Beacon Hill, got into Aldridge and i jumped off the bus and they said what you doing? And i said 'leave me, i want to be out there.' And the bus went and i walked up the street to this park at the back. Sat in the middle of this kid's climbing frame with a slide and just crept down into a kind of sitting position, arms around my legs, head huddled into my lap and just my hoodie-top over me to trap heat and i fell a straight asleep. I woke in the morning bright and early about after 6am, and caught the first bus that came in at the shops back to walsall and home. I spent all day drinking with a group of homeless people outside Aldi and the Glibb where they get free food, it was quite a experience. I slept on a bench outside the bungalows of my first love's nan's house cause i had her on my mind (that time i was pissed too), i also slept fairly high up in a tree once in a field, then climbed down eventually and slept at the base for the rest of the night cause of risk for me falling out. Those are all the closest experiences ive had to being 'homeless'. Im quite a solitary person, i enjoy my own company, i can drink on my own quite easily too. If i ever found myself loosing my house and actually homeless, i think i would give up entirely on society. I would not bother living in suburban areas such as towns and cities begging off people. I would take a tent and set up deep in some forest in the country side and just totally live off the land, like they did bk in the medieval times.

One year and a half,two policemen burned with gas an unfortunately young guy,he was only 19 years old,and when the cops murdered him,he was sleeping,I"m a Christian born again,I share the Word of God to the people on the strees,and help homeless people with food and used clothes,here in Bogotá Colombia, South América,,I'm not rich,but I feel compasion for them.God bless you,Jesus is coming soon!!.

I gave a few pounds I had in my pocket to a couple homeless guys on two separate occasions. Yeah it's possible they spent that on booze, although I hope they spent on food, but even if they did spend on booze or cigs, what little bit of escapism they got from it, then I'm glad I helped. Long term that's not the way forward and if action can solve a problem then it's not a problem. Mindset is most of everything. But those few quid I gave those two guys on those occasions, they needed it more than me and I was happy to give it. A little (and it was only a tenner or so each) can make a huge difference to someone's day in that position. A lost tenner doesn't really impact my day but a gained tenner for these people can mean the world and be the difference to whether they eat or sleep rough or not. Or can mean they spend on booze and at least feel better that night albeit not a long-term solution. Either way, they needed it more than I did.

Abigail giving them money won't sort out their problems it will kill them in the long run. Your only feeding their drug and drink habbit. Your keeping them on the streets they don't to work and pay bills like the rest of us. they blame everybody for their problems only they can sort out their own life they have to want to change their life.

I was homeless on the streets and in and out of hostels for three years. Yes I was addicted to alcohol, heroin and methadone. A lady who I’ll never forget gave me £30 one Friday and I was able to buy a cheap mobile phone with internet on it. The next night Saturday two couples on a weekend break in Manchester sat next to me, gave me kindness and food and let me stay in their hotel suite with them and paid for a room for me on the Sunday. By Monday I had managed to find my daughter on Facebook who said I could go and stay with her. An outreach center in Manchester paid for my train fare to north Wales. From then on I never touched heroin and weaned myself off the methadone. That was three years ago, I now am married, have a flat and a job. I will forever be greatful to those kind people who helped me and made it possible. Nobody wants to live life in addiction or on the streets and most will help themselves given a chance.

This took a lot of guts and humility, thank you for sharing your experience. I try to help the homeless whenever I can, who am I to judge anyone, we've all made wrong choices in life. Speaking as a former addict, I was lucky to have a strong support system, while others are not so lucky. There but for the grave of God, go I. Cheers form Wash,. DC.

Good comment

1) Have a wash in the local fountain 2) Ask or volunteer at a charity hop for work clothes and boots 3) Make cardboard sign that reads: "Hard working, reliable, punctual, honest, non drinker, non drug user seeking minimum wage all cash in hand job offers considered. Can work long or unsociable hours if someone will give me a chance to get on my feet." A lot of business owners walk past the homeless every day and they have bad staff reliability problems and will be impressed by this sign and it will earn you respect.

After watching this, as a fellow homeless person now living in a van, can I please say that no matter how big or small, hope is the only thing that keeps anyone on the street/road to keep plodding on, I hope that everyone in these terrible times finds their small amount of hope, keep marching keep smiling ✌️💯

And the government has millions in the coffers...but people still have to sleep on the streets. Disgracefull.

Plus they give out millions and millions in foreign aid, yet they cut funding and aid to the people who they govern. They need to start looking closer to home. It would probably cut this problem in half if they cut the foreign aid money in half. They won’t do that though, they have to be seen as billy big bollocks to their mates in the other governments around the world.

If they go to the 999 club in deptford they can get showers, towels & washing done, plus use the computers to apply for housing & jobs, plus they will allow the homeless to use their address as a care of address for benefits & documents - Plus if they have the funds the 999 club put money on oyster cards in order for people to get to soup kitchens etc.

Nice one guys,but imagine you try this with no cash at all and trying to beg your foodmoney together for the next day and look how far it is going! I am sure the feeling of desperation is even worse and no shower for days , you getting smelly....but still it was great that you even started to understand. I could not live with the fact that you are isolated in between hundrets of people....beeing ignored as you are not even human! Orfull, beside all the other stuff to deal with! So send you guys greetings from.Austria ( Right now not that desperate over here but i think this problem is going to spread)

The most important thing in being homeless is never to lose one 's self respect . I was once homeless in a major EU . city . But thank goodness the basic facilities were there .lockers in the main station to store one 's survival kit , many swimming baths to kip down for a few hours and take a shower and discreetly wash one 's the skidies . This is a good video, I think it’s great you are trying to raise awareness. Unfortunately as you no doubt discovered it’s hard to truly understand that predicament especially in only 24hrs I was a rough sleeper in Westminster for 11 years, thankfully I found a way out. I’m a bit sad because, watching this it reminds of that life in depth, listening to the speils of needing money for a room 😒 unfortunately it’s just a line. One that gets people searching their pockets for change. Although they’re likely begging for substances, there is a reason they them more to block everything out. Thanks for posting this video!!

I was homeless in London for 22 hours but was in the east of London. I seen a total of 3 homeless people in those hours and this was at night. Most streets I walked were completely empty and nothing going on. It was just me and the streets literally!

Things have never changed, because human nature never changes. For thousands of years greedy men have ruled the world, caring nothing for the poor. Even most everyday people don't ever think about or try to help the homeless. I've sat and talked to homeless, and nobody ever stops and gives them the time of day, much less any financial help. They're too busy going their way, in their nice clothes, driving their luxury vehicles, eating like kings every day. The homeless I've befriended are grateful just for someone to stop and actually engage them in conversation. 9 times out of 10 they don't ask me for money. I'm sick and tired of human nature. I wish our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ would return and put an end to all this despair.

Talking about the big issue, that’s a lifesaver for so many people. It makes the seller of it feel like they’re doing something worthwhile and it’s actually a job. A lot of the people I know or knew who sold the magazine didn’t claim any benefits. I know you aren’t supposed to anyway if you sell it but lots of people do. The homeless problem and the problem with mental health would be a lot worse if it wasn’t for the big issue.

Yeah i think the point was to raise awareness they werent claiming 24 hours means they know what its like to spend night after night on the streets

11,54 hope the guy gets down to portugal, i too took the trip from portsmouth on a ferry to bilbao in my younger days i had a car and a few quid i spent a year in portugal it was great learnt the lingo and lived with a brazilian for a few months London has a massive problem with the foreign investment gold bricks property being left empty and just increasing in value its a joke

That is unfortunate but to a street person it sounds like a move on your part . I was almost kidnapped in Bristol by a gang who would have locked me up and used me as a slave . I'm 6'4" and was 16 stone and pretty fit then so no pushover, they obviously thought i wouldn't be missed. This happens on the street all the time and not just in cities . When I was living in Bedfordshire the police discovered 20 men locked in a container 10 miles from my home town . If someone isn't likely to be reported missing then they become of value to unscrupulous people

It's all about Social cleansing .. Hundreds of private unaffordable housing/blocks of luxury flats is/are being built all over London but these are only for foreign investors/rich/uber rich/highly expensive holiday lettings/highly expensive rentals/sales only for the rich people .... That is the fact here in London today. There are sooooo many empty properties but owners are allowed to let this go on as they're for investment purposes only ...... To date, 6 London council estates have been emptied and sold off to private developers .. There is no such thing as a safe council housing estates or affordable housing, that is the sad truth of living in London today ....... There are sooooooooooooo many homeless in London today, many through circumstances that were not their fault, and it's not just London. Many major cities here in UK are all experiencing the same situation of developers only building for the foreign investor or UK investors, unaffordable housing is everywhere, it's not going to change anytime soon either ..... I find it shocking that shelters are charging £25-£45 per night ??!!??!!!!! That's a downright rip off, how the hell are homeless people going to make that sort of money if this is truth ???????????!!!!!!!!!!!! ..... Most London boroughs now have 20,000 + on their housing waiting lists, a huge number of these will never get a council home, for the lucky ones it will have been a 10yr wait on the waiting list. This number will go up as more and more realise that paying the rent is far more important than eating .. fact ......

The amount of these stupid luxury blocks of flats and apartments that are being built in every part of London is unbelievable. How about building a few affordable housing places for people who are either on the streets or in danger of being made homeless. We have the space and the money to do it but of course the government and local authorities won’t earn anything out of it will they?? So they’re not interested.

That’s why there is a “War On Drugs” , which is really a War On People, we need to start treating drug addiction for what it is. A health problem, NOT a criminal problem. Taxpayers pay a fortune to keep drug addicts locked up for just possessing drugs. It’s redicolous.

Medication shouldn't just be rolled out like apple on a market stall. They are the ones that are destroying society, them & the government. Sometimes I don't engage with the homeless as I have had some bad experiences with a few where I'm from (Birmingham) they ask for money if you have nothing to give they throw a load of abuse at you, a few months ago I had a serious encounter on my way to work, this homeless guy followed me to work and was waiting outside, I had to inform buisiness protection at my job and the police came into take a statement, I have had to change my route to work it was a scary experience, I haven't seen him since. I have done voluntary work in the past for the homeless, and always give to those I have got to know over time. But you really have to be careful, it's rife in Birmingham right now, in the past year I have seen more homeless in the city centre than ever before, I have worked here for 9 years. I offered one guy food and he basically told me to piss off, I'm not saying all my experiences have been like this, a lot of them are lovely and will openly talk to you , but still you have to be careful as some can be very aggressive when you say you have nothing to give. 2020 Nothing has changed 😢😢

Being homeless is often way more complex than not having a home. Many homeless people have been seriously traumatized by things that have happened in their lives and they can't function at a level where they can hold down a job or keep a roof over their heads. Many have substance abuse issues or severe mental health needs. When people have reached this point there really isn't much you can do to help most of them, apart from offering them charity to make sure that they don't starve to death ect.

Bullshit. That's what social services, doctors, psycologists and fisio/occupational therapists are for.

I work, and I can't afford to live in London, people shouldn't expect the rest of us to subsidise them so they can live where they want rather than where they can afford.

Olivia Survivor .. very true Olivia .. Do you mean Stratford Westfield ?? there's a lot of homeless there. There used to be a few on the bridge going over the railway lines but I've seen recently that as soon as they arrive they are chased off by security staff patrolling the outside of Westfield and also the outside into the underground/overland stations entrance.

must be the worst place in the world to be homeless -its bad enough having a house there.

If I had the big means I would open a hostel for them called mecca for the homeless.... And on that it could be extended with mental health and addiction therapy I just wish I had the means to do it

I hate to be a prick but I've been there...the truth is shelters don't charge for a bed. However they won't let you stay there if you're drunk or high which is generally why some stay on the streets.

It is such a sad reality of being homless for someone that doesn't have any were too call home haveing too sleep in rain snow it must be so hard and feeling always feeling cold and always feeling hungry whats a depressing lifestyle too live not even worth living 😢😀

This may sound like a stupid question, and forgive my ignorance if it is, but if these people have nothing and are living in London on the streets, any money they do make to get a room for the night etc, why not use that for train out of the city and find some quiet woodlands to sleep in at least? Away from drunk people, dangerous people beating them up or setting fire to their sleeping bag, perhaps move to a further away small town etc. I understand people staying in London when they have a job or home, but if someone has nothing, why stay in the very streets that are so dangerous to sleep in at night? Sorry if that's ignorant and not trying to be, I guess just thinking about what I'd do if I was in that situation. I'd rather be out in the woods etc far away from that, than on the streets and getting that sort of abuse. It must be hard enough being homeless as it is, without the added abuse these people get. I do know what it's like to live in poverty and did for a while; was the hardest most depressing time of my life but I came through it. I have sorta been homeless by way of staying on a friend's sofa for a couple of months, but that was the closest to it I came. Was a terrible time in my life. But it seems so many of these people stay in such dangerous areas that they no longer have ties to and are unsafe. No one in this century should be living on the streets in a first world country, and it's terrible this is the life for some people. I feel so awful for them and hope they are able to change their lives for the better. It's crazy how expensive this country is when you can live in Thailand in a beautiful apartment for 200 per month and eat well for a little more than that for a month. The standard of living in the UK is awful.

Abigail B ... there's not a lot of money to be spared for homeless nowadays, also most people don't have cash, just a stack of credit/debit cards etc ... it's only the already poor that have cash in purses/wallets and they probably can't spare anything with children to look after ... As far as getting a train ticket out to the country to find some woods or even the underground have you seen the prices of train travel today ????? There and back costs far more than most homeless can collect in a day and they need what may be given for some food etc Nice thought though ..

If someone shouted to me get up and get a job I would say oh yeah are you want to swap places and see how I can’t just get a job or are you want to give me a job .thats terrible I mean people who are homeless already have no dignity left and letting the full city see this and still people shout and bear and urinate on the homeless

As a formerly homeless drug addict I say - were supposed to suffer and be neglected on the street when we make bad decisions with drugs and booze.Were not innocent victims despite our constant whiny victim mentalities.

Im a current rebuilder(of my life).think i have a good view on things but if you want to do it properly just ask and il guild you through how your first days homeless will truly be,theres no way to enact it without the replicating 1(atleast) of the issues that lead upto the bottom rung of society.with out the issues your just pulling an all nighter

Took days to find warm donated food or clothes for a start,and after the trauma of being made into (a homeless person) you try to access the avialiable "help" when your turned away with what ever of the hundreds of excuses councils use to say its your own fault,you made yourself homeless.99%of street people will take you for a mug if you ask help,they will help them selfs.its a very very rare thing to be made homeless with another heathly gym head...what your doing is just urban camping

Just remember that homless people ara someone love ones and ara just human like the rest of us and ara having a very difficult time in their life everyone is one pay check away from being homless don't judge

People are so careless nowadays walking pass like there is no person there utterly inhumane and makes me so angry seeing these people walking pass inhuman!!!

And how much is rent round your way? One bed flat here is £900 a month. Yep - that's "affordable".

The problem is getting in to new place to start over two grand not afford getting job in time

I figured that the Europeans would treat their homeless with some dignity I think I'd rather be homeless in America

Why can't we stop homelessness in this day and age, big buildings everywhere abandoned for years. Governments should nick them if abandoned for a short time and try and help the homeless. Everyone please don't look down on the homeless people., even saying hello would be nice to hear for them.

Before the lock down emptied out a lot of offices and warehouses there were 80,000 empty commercial properties in London ( I'd guess now it must be over 100k ? ) The govt facilitate this with their rules and taxation on this type of property....if they didn't and made it expensive to keep an empty space landlord's would be petitioning for lower taxes or easier 'change of use' legislation ... which they aren't. Its a scandal that the poor and disenfranchised are huddled in the shadow of towering palaces of steel marble and glass. Its Dickensian

The point is .homleas people can’t just go home and one night isn’t getting true experience maybe a week .but still you doing good thing for awareness but loads of people do these videos and homelessness is worse after the pandemic

5 th richest country in the world….2022!!! Truly heartbreaking to see people living like this in a first world country. M.P. s have second homes and some of the people they claim to represent don’t even have first homes and live day to day in fear
