#24 Homemade Log Grapple

Here is the log grapple I use on my Case 430. It uses the only curl cylinder I have. I don't have any 3rd function or the like. So I designed a system that would pinch the log by its own weight. Very hard to explain in a text. So watch the video!

Man Joe, you definitely are an engineer and this would have been fun to watch you make it. Watching this video is a treat. I told my wife about your unique skills at making things and she said you must have some wicked tools. I told her yes., and he made most of his tools as well. She too was quite impressed with this log grapple.👍

Thank goodness people put homemade inventions out there like you have made in great details.i have a 4610 Ford/Dunham Lehr loader with 2 sets of remotes (Loader Uses 1 set) but I don't want to spend a lot of cash on hoses and a cylinder only to using a couple times a year.......your design will be perfect! Thank you!

It looks like your forks are square tubeing. I would have welded up a slip on frame to mount an angleable three point blade. You could have simply left left the fork on and slipped then into the square tube brackets and picked up the blade with the fork. You could have locked it in place using a chain binder on each side. Use no chain just a camming binder to lock each side in place. Yes I weld I built my own backhoe for my MC and multiple attachments and even a triple axle trailer that I used to haul it on. I now use a cartrailer as it is much easier.

Thanks for watching! Yes, the fork are actually tubing. They come from a stackable racking system... So to say, it was supposed to be a carryall in the first place... I ended being modified and strenghtened many time. I also have a dirt bucket in the summer. I am always thinking of making a quick attach for these attachments. I am also thinking of making a backhoe! Do you have pictures to share? What model of MC?

This is kind of like a hydraulic thumb on an excavator. Maybe a rolling thumb or lockable thumb would work just as well. All the grapple part does is keep the log from falling off the forks. you really need a weight box for your tractor. Are you using your chipper much? we sold ours. Small chippers are not that usable. Like small tractor backhoe buckets, they are very limited.

@@FromSteelToWood Our little PTo chipper was ridiculous. The feed was gravity. The throat was too small. My wife had visions of chipping brush for mulch. It was way too much work and we sold it. I just made a concrete ballast box from Concrete and scrap angle Iron. About 500 lbs. Your forks go on the pins, ours clamped to the bucket. That was ok for some uses. They are not the best, for sure. You could move brush to the burn pile, where it belongs.
