The best decision i ever made and the best years of my life were joining the air force in ‘06 right after high school. I chose security forces 100% because of watching this show as a kid. Never got to see the SGC, go off world, or fight aliens, but i did stand in my fair share of hallways at parade rest and walk back and forth in front of fences.
I loved Stargate from the very beginning. I'm only 2 years younger than Michael, so it was really awesome to watch people my own age on my favorite show.
I really appreciate Michael taking the time to speak about his time on Star Gate/SG-1. Daniel Jackson was my favorite character on the show and he completely nailed that role. I can't imagine anyone else playing Daniel Jackson. Well done sir and thank you.
This interview is simply amazing... As if it was Daniel himself speaking. Much respect and love to both of you for making this happen for us fans. ❤
I know that no studio would green light a Stargate production that didn't have vibrant young actors (think of the hilarious youth oriented recasting scene in the SG-1 episode 200) but I'd watch SG-1 episodes with all of the original actors... forever. They don't need to run and gun. The dialog and character interactions were the best, and that's a credit to both the actors and the writers.
I loved this show so much I never missed an episode. Lol. As a matter of fact I have been re watching on prime now.
I loved every episode Michael Shanks did and SG1 is my favorite show of all time because of your performances and the overall group dynamics and hopefulness and humor of the show. It's been a year since I went through the show last and it's time to start over again

I'm on series 9, I didn't watch 9 and 10 as I didn't like one of the films and assumed 9 and 10 wasn't worth watching. I really like series 9, I hope I can find series 10. Watched series 1 to 8 probably 3 or 4 times, yes, like you I'll go 1 to 9 in a few months. I love the humour and stories, they are so well written and performed
We need a new series with Daniel as the older, wiser leader of an archaeological expedition in the SG universe. Still with the military element, but the focus should be on exploring some new mysterious frontier.
I've introduced to my children. They will inherit my dvds of the show and movies. The heart and soul of this franchise is the forever hope many of us have for our future. Thank you David and Michael.

So important to pass on the morals and decency in SG to future generations.
What a fabulous way to end season 3! It has been an awesome Stargate weekend with Dial the Gate! It was so great to see Michael and have him share his memories with us :) Thank you, David!

Thank you @TracyAsteria for all your amazing and hard work as a mod. You are an amazing human being.
Michael Shanks totally ROCKS!!!
Stargate is my favorite show of all time! The Original as the Series and movies after too.
I recently discovered that Pluto has dedicated Stargate and classic Doctor Who channels. Can’t get much better than that. 😊
Can you interview Joe Flanigan again? I just found this channel and already love it. I am a huge Stargate fan.

@@DialtheGate That’s sad. Well, thank you for trying. 😊
Thank you love me some Daniel Jackson. Love the cast the show bring it back!
I am just starting to watch the series now after finally seeing the movie. Just a fantastic show. I know Michael is probably trying to get away from his James Spader impression of Daniel but I was blown away at how incredible his performance was. Just spot on! Thanks for all you do!❤
Sadly I missed this but luckily we can still watch it! Michael Shanks is an amazing Actor and he and his character really added a lot to the atmosphere of the show!
...man ...talk about someone that just seems like a way cool dude to hang out with... thank u fellas
Nice to see the reasons behind some of the the changes I have seen a decade or so ago, when I watched all of Stargate's series and movies, lol.
I'm only about 30 minutes in, so maybe this question is going to pop up at some point...but would he be open to coming back as Daniel if they rebooted Stargate? I would love to see Richard, Amanda, Michael, and Chris all come back.
Thank you Dial the Gate, and thank you Michael For making my birthday ❤❤
Dang freaking cool! Still dream of meeting them all! Brought tears to my eyes! Thank you!
Wow. Great interview. Michael’s recall of the 10 years of his key role in SG1 is amazing. An amazing insight into his career spoken with humour and honesty. Please bring Micheal, Amanda, Chris, Brad Wright and other ‘originals’ into the new show!

Chris has already done an interview, it was done earlier this year.
This is great. I never got passed season 8 of SG1 back in the old DVD rental Netflix days. Trying again in Prime 😊
I hope that Michael doesn't undervalue his work playing Daniel in the early seasons just because another actor previously played a version of the character. Of course, nobody takes anything away from Heath Ledger or Joaquin Phoenix because they weren't the first Joker, and the same should be true here. Michael's Daniel Jackson was a wonderful and affecting character in a way that the film version never had the chance to be. In the first five seasons, when SG-1 had a consistently more mature edge to it, Jackson was often the one speaking to real issues of politics, military, foreign policy, ethics, culture, and philosophy. He's the character that largely elevated the show into a work that had something poignant to say, and Michael's performance brought the believability and humanity to it that made it so moving. It's understandable to want to do something else after half a decade, but I'll always cherish those early years with the character.
And once again my respect and admiration for Michael - as an actor and itherwise - goes through the ceiling. He was shooting Sg1 in the day and giving Hamlet performances in the evening ...!!! Wah!?!?!?❤️
SO NICE TO SEE MICHAEL AGAIN. HE IS SUCH A TALENTED ACTOR. LOVED HIS PROTRAYAL OF DANIEL JACKSON. HE IS JUST AS HANDSOME AS EVER. ENJOYED ALL HE HAS DONE.

I grew up watching Stargate as it aired and I’m currently binging it after not having seen a single episode in about 12 years (on season 10). So the grey/white beard was a bit of a shock to the system but, yes, definitely, Shanks is just as handsome as ever. Completely agree.
For some reason, I couldn't access the comments during the live, so I didn't have a chance to ask anything. But this was a great interview. I credit your approach @DialtheGate to making him feel at ease and on the difficult stuff, not making him feel backed into a corner. He seems relaxed and open to the questions, and I enjoyed his willingness to laugh at situations but also be honest. He's had many years to process, grow, and as He said has learned a lot about the gift Stargate SG-1 really was. I enjoyed hearing about his other projects, family, and silly happenings. I hope He does return next season. I would love to hear about his time on Saving Hope and his interactions and experiences with that crew. Thanks for all the hard work this season! :)
I would so watch the next Stargate series! 😱
You know how you know you're watching a great program? When the last episode of a series of Dial The Gate leaves you with that same empty feeling as the last episode of a season of Stargate itself: we all know what I mean, like you just lost something you love and can only hope it returns for another season, that hole that is left behind... Thanks for all the effort David! Hope to see you soon next year! And maybe a bit early already, but enjoy the holiday season at the end of the year and recharge those batteries!

It's DOCTOR, Daniel Jackson!.....🇨🇦♥️🇨🇦
Thank you for interview. I loved the moral depth of the show. I respected that SG teams visited other planets but never tried to take them over/colonise/indoctrinate with "earth values".
I was so happy being able to share Stargate SG 1 with a few coworkers, and having them fall in love with the series and asking me many questions (most of which were spoilers and I wasn't about to entertain that), and Michael was a HUGE part of my growing up. Much love
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!
Damn, out of all of the main cast he looks the best after all this years. Amanda is still got it too, but Michael is damn good looking. What a legend.
The best TV show ever made.
Keep in mind, this brilliant man snagged Andromeda.
If I saw him on a random street I wouldn’t recognize him. Even on his time in Smallville I had a hard time recognizing him. 😬😆
That was a great catch up. I enjoyed it immensely. Thank you for presenting that and to Michael for being such a great part of the Stargate world.
Michael Shanks is a great actor but an even cooler dude in real life
I know James spader starred in the original film that spawned all the series afterwards and is imo a fantastic actor but I genuinely loved Michael in his role in sg1 and later in Atlantis no one else could have played him
Thank you, Michael and thank you, David.
SG-1 what a legendary show that was

Awesome interview. Thank you both so much!
great end to yet another great season. many thanks from the UK
My first time watching your show but that was amazing to hear my favorite childhood actor talk about my favorite show. I really can't wait now for the next season.
Thank you for everything Michael!
love this channel Glad I found it today. Enjoyed this episode with Michael.
Been waiting this one! Michael is one of the best actor and work hours flew by with this interview :D hopefully he comes again at somepoint.. could listen all day :)
Wow, that was so intimate. I am jealous you had the chance to do that, and grateful you shared it with us.
The crime of the century was not getting Michael Shanks as the replacement to James Spader in The Office
Thanks David.. we all appreciate what you do for the community.. exceptional interview
Incredible interview! Hearing Michael talk about the show was special because I grew up on SG1 and is one of my favourite shows of all time. So glad I found your channels! You do a great job sir.
Thanks you David thank you Michael
Thanks for this interview David and team. Was neat to hear Michael echo what others have said about the longevity of the franchise and the multi generation appeal. It was just cool to see him again.
750! I loved this interview, means alot to me that there are so many other Stargate fans out there!!!
Replay crew here! So sad I missed the live. But thank you David and thank you Michael!!! Amazing end to season 3. Stargate is an integral part of every single day in my house, can’t wait to see what you bring in Season 4! 🙏
It was nice to hear Michael's thoughts on Stargate! Thanks again David for doing this show. You are much appreciated.
Excellent interview
I appreciated this. Very cool story about the Appendix busting! I'm glad it worked out.
What a great interview., outstanding job both of you. Got this recommended by a friend who I grew up with watching all the scifi. SG1, andromeda, farscape all intertwined when it comes to cast. If at some point the make another spinoff that isn't cancelled soon as it develops legs they gonna need to find a place for Daniel in some form.
Grateful to find this piece. Good look back. Candid beyond panel at 'cons. 'Thanks,' David, et al.
Story starting roughly 6:00 - I had appendicitis just over a week ago, they did a test by pushing on the area and it hurt a lot, they then gave me a CT scan and I was in surgery 2 hours later to get it removed. Still bruised with scabbing from keyhole surgery with 3 incision marks. I went to A&E at 3:30AM, got seen at 11am, got cut at 4pm, send home the next day at 5pm. All for free. Thumbs up to the NHS.

God I love Michael Shanks so much
Damn/Thank you David! Now you've made me want to go rerun the entire series. 😂😂😂 As always, thank you kindly for all the hard work and effort you and the team put in to keep the fire burning. ✌🏻💚
Amazing interview, Shank you very much :D
Great guest, great host, great conversation! I like the yellow one!
amazing interview.
Great interview David thanks to you, your team and Michael, this was just what I needed today. Wish I had caught it live that appendix story wow same thing happened to a friend of mine on New Years Eve of all times she had about two glasses of champagne then started to get pain so bad she called an ambulance and rushed into surgery it burst on the operating table. I've heard that if you're going to work somewhere remotely like Antarctica or Space for Astronauts they just take the appendix out before you go just in case because that is not something you deal with when you're days away from being able to get medical care for it. Have heard stories from outback Australia where a regular General Practitioner has had to remove an appendix with minimal anaesthetics scary thought!
Just.. Thank you to both of you for this interview. I watch all of the SG series rather often and hold SG in a special place in my heart, I can't even put my appreciation for this interview into words. Again, Thank You.

Stargate, especially SG1 and SGA are the epitome of what science fiction can be, the characters follow morals and show us the world as it ought to be, I like how star trek portrayed this, but they made it far to black and white, stargate explored the gray area and in doing so allowed us to view the human condition in it's raw form rather than a sterilized good/evil dichotomy that so much television sci-fi presents. The only other sci-fi on its level is The Expanse, at least in my opinion.
The same thing happened to me with my appendicitis. I had very strange symptoms, like stomach aches and headaches. Just as I got under the knife my appendix burst and had to stay with a tube in me for 5 days for drainage. That was in 2000.
Thank you so much Michael for doing this, clearly you still have a lot of love for it all! ;) Happy Halloween guys! I hadn't heard of Unspeakable prior, but I'll be watching it ASAP. As you guys mentioned, it might be hard to watch but I feel like I have to with how much the thought of such things bothers me, and for the people affected by this type of thing :( ...As a kid, I remember the stories about Bayer knowingly selling/using HIV tainted blood transfusion products, which ruined my trust in Pharmaceutical companies. I thought that was horrifying, and the story here sounds very relatable.
Awesome episode!
Thank you very much!

Is there an interview that asks what stars or producers think should be the official Stargate Day? 😁 We definitely need one and I'm very surprised we don't have it yet. There's lots of good ideas out there based on favorite episodes, release date, supposed date of discovery of the Stargate or first supposed date of successful activation, or significant numbers related to Stargate operations. Whatever it is, it needs to make sense, and preferably in a fun way 😉
Ask him about his training next time he's on, he got almost as big as Teal'c at one point!
great interview
Thank you, Michael, both for the interview and for gifting me Thor doing Stewie Griffin's mocking Brian bit lol
I hope you have him back soon! I don't normally ask questions - I just enjoy the show - but I really want to ask him what it was like to play Rick Singer in the College Admissions Scandal movie he did for Lifetime a few years back and what he thought of all that crazy because I'm sure as a Canadian, he must have been rolling his eyes behind the scenes lol. Not sure if you've seen it but I highly recommend it for the entertainment value alone, I'll just have it on in the background sometimes and enjoy the trainwreck. It's on Tubi if you haven't watched it - grab some popcorn and enjoy!

@@DialtheGate It was filmed in Vancouver so of course there'll be at least a couple of Stargate alums in it. Robert Moloney aka Boren from 2001 ("I know his name - he was boring! - Jack O'Neill 😂) plays one of the cheating parents. It must be a little weird as an actor to play a real person but this guy was such a douche, Michael probably really enjoyed playing him.
sad i missed this one, ill watch it now though
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME 😊😊😊
Daniel Jackson was awesome and so was Jonas Quinn tbh. Shanks was great
David, these interviews with the cast, crew, guests, and production personnel are amazing, interesting and captivating and I hope you continue to bring them to us for many years. However, regarding any rejuvenation or rebooting of the series with any of the original or future characters is as unlikely as the Stargate being a real and practical device and manner of intergalactic travel. The fact of the matter is that too much time has elapsed between the shows ending (SG1, Atlantis, Universe) that any remake or reboot of the series is impractical. Perhaps in 30+ years a reasonable facsimile will emerge, albeit to a totally different audience and demographic. But in the interim, please continue your interviews and video history of one of the best SciFi (next to ST:TOS) franchises that has ever graced our television screens. MH
Omg❤❤❤ The ascension one
Great interview. Only other thing I would've liked to hear him discuss is his episodes on Andromeda.
Speaking of Dom, that reminds me of Maury Chaykin who guested on SG-1. I think Stargate might have been the first time I really noticed him (or even seen him). Such a great actor, and seems like he too would have been a funny guy (but maybe I'm wrong). I really liked the TV show that he acted in called "Less Than Kind", which I think ran until his death (edit: even despite his death). He was kind of an under-known under-recognized under-utilized actor in my opinion.
