    It took super long to build this base! I had to do drop 60%-70% of the footage in order to make this video manageable length and not super boring. Anyway, I hope you enjoy, you're awesome guys, keep it up! Shuttle file here: drive.google.com/open?id=1NoKRAS2A86a6MIAQft5aarxf2giSA-zL

    Hey Mark, I very much enjoyed the video. I wanted to give you a couple of quick tips from my own base construction with DIYs. That Mobile Workshop that you are using is horrible for building large bases. The MKS Tundra Assembly Plant is much better. It is located under the Manufacturing tab when designing a vessel. For reference, I built a base portion that needed 65,000 material kits in less than 3 days. Make sure to fill it with engineers. Also, machinery is transferred to the base units by maintenance. You can either let the auto-maintenance run, or send an engineer to the specific units, right click on them, and select Perform Maintenance. As long as a USI storage crate with machinery is within 150 meters, that will transfer them to the unit. No need to trust KAS for it. I hope those help. If you have any questions/issues with MKS and USI-LS, let me know. I am learning a lot about them.

    Awesome. Just awesome. I, for one, would never be opposed to an hour-long video of this sort of thing. Boring or no, it's very intriguing. And besides. I can't do it myself because I can't pilot the ships I build. (sad)

    +Anthony Pelchat Thanks for the tips! I actually thought about using the larger plant, I just couldn't figure out how to turn it into a rover. Also the time went down quite a lot once I had leveled my engineers, they started out as level 0 :). Regarding machinery I just screwed up, I forgot that with GC you have to bring resources separately and I have exactly 0 machinery and 0 specialized parts on the surface. There is some machinery left on the ship and I think we'll pinch that before more is sent from Kerbin. I actually have a problem I can't wrap my head around, I designed my buildings to be very specialized (like the greenhouse has no living space or recyclers, just workspace) and because of that hab times and supplies consumption vary quite a lot if those building are not connected. I know local logistics can transfer resources and so on, but crew bonuses do not carry over right? And if I move my Kerbal to other building it's hab time goes down by quite a lot and also colony modules don't have any effect on it.

    I've never been so excited to see other people's packages being delivered! XD I love colonization. And I might just have to build myself a VTOL lander like that, if it's so easy to fly. Once, I had to 'walk' parts up the side of tall structures too. With 1.12's EVA construction, I needed to add small and medium-size docking ports to my very tall mining rockets. The procedure was to attach a little ladder as far up as the kerbal could reach, place the docking ports close to it, then jetpack up to the ladder, take the previous ladder from below, and repeat.

    So happy to see that KAS pylons are less buggy now (1.7). There was a change where pipes are different, but the resource transfer unit replaces one of the ports. As long as you don't connect too many ships directly without pylons in between, it's pretty dang stable.

    This has been probably the most satisfying career playthrough of KSP that Ive seen since Manleys interstellar quest. In fact, in terms of both scope, and presentation, I think this has been better. My only complaint about Scotts IQ was that he had a tendency to hide his designs functionality until the last minute, and I much prefer your craft breakdowns as soon as they are ready to launch. I suspect that your process is much more time intensive, especially since the scale of your colonisation and station builds are much more thorough. If you keep this pace, keep pumping out videos of this quality, and eventually take this series to the key locales of the entire Kerbin system, I honestly think the end result will surpass Interstellar Quest over all. Great Job!

    Hi Mark! Just wanted to say I love your channel. I hope that the new direction the channel is taking is working out for you in terms of time-management and enjoyability. I'm still working though the videos, but I can honestly say I enjoy the JCB mars series too. I read in one of the comments that you should just upload what works for you and if you enjoy it, people will enjoy watching it. I fully agree. When a KSP video comes out once in a while, it feels more like the treat it actually is. Good luck in the future!

    When you can you should test this one thing with your massive SSTO that can take a payload about 440 tons I think. I had notice the size of the fairing and thought of which option is more effective: With or without the fairing to the payload The size of it makes it heavy and the drag it takes away is helpful but taking the fairing away can improve the SSTO efficiency so it can possibly bring more payload for the money you use a launch

  • @MarkThrimm

    @MarkThrimm

    6 жыл бұрын

    I've actually tested that quite extensively. My earlier designs weren't using fairings at all. The problem is that if your cargo is not aerodynamic you have to add more engines to compensate for the drag and you end up carrying more mass with comparable efficiency. For long range SSTOs it's actually more important, for low orbit ones less so.

    I don't think so. I wanted to try out different solution this time and KSP does not like large surface bases. The idea here was to use MKS logistics system and resource sharing to make this thing work, but it turned out to work only slightly. So I guess we might end up connecting them with tunnels, although I have no idea how to do it now :)

    That's true, but the problem I can't solve is that some buildings require specific Kerbal to be present to operate efficiently and not all of them have all required life support systems to keep them happy long enough. It still works but less efficiently. I just haven't figured out how to do it without connecting everything together. Maybe I should include that in the design stage :)
