For millions of people, “peace” has become a scarce commodity. War in Africa, war in the Middle East, war in Europe. You would say: “Peace is hard to find”. The war feels close. The music you listen to is therefore not really a “Christmas carol about peace”. There are actually no words to say about how we could celebrate Christmas now.
“Wars” are also waged on a small scale. In the family, with (old) friends, in church, at the football club, at work. Many people therefore become despondent, no pleasure in life, no pleasure in the people around you.
The music swells, a beautiful organ is added. Can we find the “new peace”? Eventually Yes. In minor music, the very last chord ends in “major”! So positive. At Christmas we remember the birth of our Lord Jesus. Maybe the choir could sing about that? “Peace on earth” should not start with someone else, but first with yourself! And if you succeed, you can end your search for peace and tell others that you have found your peace.
