22 years after 13-year-old's murder, an arrest that made history

CNN was granted exclusive access as the NYPD re-opened the cold case of 13-year-old Minerliz Soriano's murder. For nearly four years, the department's top detectives & forensics lab kept the case alive, culminating in a history-making arrest 22 years after her body was found in a dumpster. #CNN #News

I am 65. When I was 14 my good friend Dawn Cave was murdered. In Bethany CT. She walked out if her house in the late afternoon and was found 30 days later in a field, raped and murdered. They believe they know who was responsible but no one was punished for it. I think about her all the time. We weren't even allowed to talk about it. It was so horrendous that our parents just did the Ostrich. It is important to solve these cases. Closure matters.

And more : many folks in the streets (tourists or not) let be carried away for people like this that they don't even know, any tourist locations let's say, it's full of bad guys but somehow i keep reading in posts: Oh, such and such is great, oh such and such is great person but in reality their history is very bad but local people don't talk about it not to hurt the tourism. There's always people like him disguised as a good person, tourists guide, boats, baloons, summer schools and so on. I'm tired to see people who arrive to a tourist place , pay high fees and end up dying for nothing as folks like this one are some how smart enough to hide for a while. Tks for this kind of technology to take this guy out of the streets. Also there should be a law (which would not work in this case as he has never being arrested before ) where this local "personalities" should get checked and tested by the city. I know it's almost impossible but maybe there would be a way to test people like him and get a "red" flag before something bad happens.

What is the scariest is how this disgusting man was around so many other children throughout these years and then he was so interested and focused on one of Minerliz passions is sickening. It’s almost like he was getting to relive the memory of his victim for all of these years and making a name for himself with one of her passions. I didn’t know this young lady or her family but I am soooo grateful for the dedicated detectives, officers, forensic teams etc. who never gave up and after all those years the fire never went out to find her killer. Now I hope this man rots in prison for the rest of his pathetic life.

She dreamed of a boy called Edward and if you didn't pause she wrote "on our date, we will go to the movies" and that he would "not drop out of high school" and one day "he will ask me to marry him and we will have a baby and will live in a house" and then she added "small" next to "house," which was so sweet. Oh, and she wrote that they will "own a Ferrari." When I first read this happened 22 years ago I still expect it to be the 1980s. Time flies people. agreed AND more : many folks in the streets (tourists or not) let be carried away for people like this that they don't even know, any tourist locations let's say, it's full of bad guys but somehow i keep reading in posts: Oh, such and such is great, oh such and such is great person but in reality their history is very bad but local people don't talk about it not to hurt the tourism.

Every crime committed should be solved but it’s not always possible. The evidence just isn’t there to convict sometimes. Way too many generalizations being touted as facts these days.
