Having struggled with my wifi set-up and internet access it was time to upgrade my system. In this vlog, I talk through how I upgraded my router, external antenna and power cables to improve things. I am glad to say it has been a success, a worthwhile exercise and one I would recommend.

I’ve heard about boaters and people living in remote areas using a set up called Star Link. I haven’t looked into Star Link, but I’m assuming that it’s quite pricey. Do you know anything about the Star Link system? Thanks for the video. Much appreciated. 🙂🐿🌈❤️

Star Link is Elton Musk's satellite system apparently it is very good but is pricey, around £75 per month I understand, so beyond my budget. You also need a clear view of the sky so moored up under trees along the canal it wouldn't work so well.

@@TheNarrowboatNomad Oh thanks for that info, much appreciated. £75 a month 😳!!!! I’ve just come back here to add that apparently Starlink is a total power hog. So regardless of price, it’s not going to be great for an off grid situation. I was just watching a video from a sailor crossing the Atlantic and he uses something called “Iridium Go” I’ve never heard of it so I’ll be doing some more reading, (it’s a 12V system) Anyway, take care of yourself and I’ll see you in the next video 🙂

Hi Alan. I’ve got one of those Huawei 4G small mobile units which serves me well where I am currently moored & I charge it up with 240v as have got electric hook up. If I’m out travelling can I plug into a 12v lighter socket to charge 🤔🦆💕

Hi Pam. If your Huawei unit is like mine you will be able to charge it via a 12V lighter socket. I am assuming that you use a USB cable to the 240V plug so just connect the USB to a lighter socket. If your Huawei unit came with a permanently wired 240V plug like the one in the vlog it should tell what the output is, if it’s 12V you just need to get a USB cable and your good to go. Hope that helps. 😊
