Hi! I have a question- is a high protein, high fat, and low carb diet okay though? (Like 50% protein, 35-40% fat, 15-10% carb)? The video was a lot of low fat stuff, so I was curious!

April your biggest tip is the whole mindset change. its hard for a petite woman who loves to eat food. You can't eat as much as your friends/partner. I feel like the unhealthy associations with food and obsessions to maintain/lose weight are more prevalent for us. Your advice really helps. It has helped me for sure especially switching to lifting weights, you don't have to eat like a bird when you are maintaining muscle mass. Can't believe it took me until i was 30 to find this all out. would have prevented a tonne of unrealistic dieting habits in my 20s.

@@larynthify I don't mean low fat in the sense of low fat products, I mean being conscious of fat in terms of quantity. You can still buy full fat products, just consuming them in moderation will help since they are the most caloric (but not high in volume). I don't recommend macro breakdown percentages for petites because they don't scale down well for us, but in general I wouldn't go below 40 grams of fat per day as a petite, lower than that can be problematic for hormones and overall health!

@@AprilVWhitney Ohh, I see! Thank you so so much! I used to be sooo conscious with fatty food and would always go so low on them (way below 40g of fat) and only recently did I start incorporating food that have decent fat content. It has made SUCH a difference for me with satiety (I usually keep around 50-60g fat now daily)! But thank youuu! I regard your channel highly and have recommended your channel to friends who are also petite. I'm a really tiny 4'11" so your content is incredibly relevant to me :)

Instead of swapping out peanut butter with powdered peanut butter, I suggest trying pumpkin seed butter. Pumpkin seeds contain more micronutrients than peanuts, such as Zinc and Magnesium, that help you maintain a healthy, functioning thyroid, which maintains steady fat burning. Instead of fruit juice, eat whole fruits. These have more micronutrients and fiber than juice, and have less sugar per volume than juice. Instead of egg whites, make sure you're eating 3-4 whole eggs per day, assuming you don't have an egg allergy. The yolks have healthy fats and more of those micronutrients, and eating just the whites is throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Instead of fat free/low fat dairy products, eat full fat/whole milk dairy products. In addition to being more satiating for your hunger, contains, full fat dairy contains Vitamin K2, which can move Calcium stored in your arteries out into your bones, making your bloodflow healther and making your bones stronger and more dense. Instead of eating regular grain-fed beef, eat grass-fed beef, bison, venison, or elk. Grass-fed ruminant animal meats have more micronutrients in them than grain-fed animal meats. Instead of driving to the gym that's less than 30 minutes away from your house/taking the elevator in your apartment complex to the complex's gym downstairs, walk to your gym/take the stairs in your apartment complex to your downstairs gym. Getting in an extra 2000 -3000 steps per day can fuel more fat loss. Instead of doing crunches/sit-ups as an abs exercise, try farmer walks/carries, or walking a certain amount of distance while carrying the heaviest kettlebells or dumbbells in each arm you can carry while maintaining proper form while walking (not wobbling from side to side). Much better core exercise than crunches or sit-ups. Instead of running, walk with a weighted vest/backpack, aka rucking. While running makes you burn a lit of calories, it also stimulates your hunger cravings, making you more likrly to binge-eat. Walking with weight on your back makes you burn similar amounts of calories as running without the hunger-stimulation, and can hrlp you build/maintain good back and shoulder muscles.

April, thank you so much for starting this channel! As a five foot 16 year old girl, I have had my fair share of struggles with body image. My approach was to refrain from eating more than two bird-sized snacks a day. This started at 12 years old and had continued until I came across your channel. Obviously, I was, and still am, much too young to have developed that mindset in the first place and it didn't lead to a healthy mind or healthy body. I had no idea that the reason I didn't like my body wasn't because I was eating too much and not doing enough cardio, it was because I needed to change my mindset from trying to attain "skinny and starved" to "toned and healthy", I needed to eat more nutritious foods and start building muscle. I have been doing this and not only do I feel so much better in my own skin, I feel more energized, happier, and healthier. So thank you so much! I wouldn't be where I am today without you!

The electrolytes and minerals in pink Himalayan salt are so little that you need to eat TONS of it to get ANY benefit. You could use a mix of iodized and low sodium salt if you want iodine, sodium, AND potassium. Or sea salt if you don't need iodine and potassium. Just thought I'd let you know so your program can be based in science!! We don't all have time to look into everything. 😊 I still have pink Himalayan salt in my grinder cause it looks pretty which makes me remember to have some salt, which is better than NOT having some.

I think many of these tips are for those "last 10 pounds" people like yourself! For beginners, Chipotle or even Subway is a great fast food option for fast, fresh, protein/fiber-filled meals (more customizable and filling than most McDonald's, imo). Frozen/canned veggies are better than NO veggies. If folks find that coffee helps with workouts, they can try taking a Tums for the acidic stomach (or like baking soda, but that tastes bad to me) (I switched to green tea myself tho cause of blood sugar reasons). I really love the other tips!! The it's-never-all-or-nothing mindset is KEY to longevity.

Thanks for this, I have used these swaps over the years in my life, which has helped a lot. I’m still skinny-fat because I don’t like to lift weights or exercise. There are times where in a few months of the year I’m exercising and then I completely stop. So I’ve always been “soft”. I don’t know how to get out of the no excercise cycle.

I would recommend avocado oil for cooking and the olive for salads, olive oil can't take too much heat and when cooking something at high temperature (if you're on the rush) it gets oxidized, it even needs to be stored at a cool temperature.

Hey heyyyy loved the video, thank you for your knowledge. I would recommend changing the olive oil to avocado oil, and also ghee. Ghee is amazing for the gut! The reason for my suggestion is because olive oil has a very low smoke point, so when you are cooking with it and it rises above about 400 degrees it will go bad. Avocado oil is better for high temperature cooking! 💕

As a body builder who has become so health conscious, I find many of these I do, but to add a great one for salad dressing is just simply use lime for the best taste and health choice. I drink a juiced lemon in water daily with cayenne pepper in it and 8oz of water, sometimes i add a shot of apple cider vinegar. I add cinnamon to my water and now cloves. I don’t mind a flavor shot in my coffee but try not to do heavy sugary things otherwise. I love my Fage low fat Greek yogurt mixed with a few herbs and or lil hidden valley ranch packet. I definitely relate to many of your suggestions and thank you so much! And might I add your skin is just glowingly beautiful which I’m sure has every bit to do with what you’re eating

Dried fruit does often not contain extra added sugar - the problem is, that water dilutes the sugar content. Which means, when fruit is dried the ratio of water and sugar just changes. So less volume and less water to dilute the sugar.

I've lost over 2 stone and have done a body recomp over this time, but I still seem to have this belly :( i know its partly genetic, and that you cant get rid of fat from one specific place, but is there something i'm missing? my arms and legs are toned/strong looking for my size, i'm just still so unhappy with my stomach :(

Wow over 2 stone is incredible Daryl! I know you've been working hard at this and you have so much to be proud of so far. Stomach fat is lost the same way that you have lost the 2 stone - you just have to keep going if that is your goal since it's often the last place women lose body fat. You have to decide if it's a healthy lifestyle for you in the long term. I know that may not be the answer you are looking for, but it's the truth and I won't give you anything less here. If you really want help with these goals and decide that's what you want to work on, I can help! I'm here to support you

Can you do a video on how to maintain your weight after losing it? I lost a lot of weight before but I ended up gaining it all back because I didn’t know how to maintain it.

Yes I agree the fruit juice is bad but green juice is superior. It’s really good when you use presser instead of juice machine. You still get the microfibers from the green and all the nutrients are preserved by the presser. Smoothie is not exactly better than fruit juice cause you liquify the fruit into drinks. You put it faster into your digestive system instead of chewing it slowly. Your blood pressure will go up just as fast as when you’re drinking sweet fruit juice. Yes you’ll get the extra fibers here but for people with metabolic problems or just trying to be healthy and keep the insulin low smoothie is not a good idea.

I think I’ve made all these swaps too when I was first losing weight! Honestly! Very good stuff. My problem now is I have a toddler who makes it difficult for me to workout as much. And also, it makes me need alcohol more to decompress at the end of the day 😂

My tip for working out with a toddler is to play with them. Take them to the park and have races, climb on the monkey bars and jungle gym with them, do squats push ups near by while they play on the slide, bench press them, give them a piggy back ride while doing squats or walking lunges. That way you have quality time with your kiddo, but you can still have a workout. I know how hard it is; I’m a mom of 3. Mine are finally all in school, so I have more time for standard workouts, but definitely used toddler playtime as my workout before they could go to school. Hope this helps!
