So where do we find this magical bolt gun load data all the data that I'm seeing indicates that the 22arc is only maybe 100 ft per second faster than a 223 Remington and doesn't even come close to keeping up with a 22 250.

  • @GunWodan

Honest feedback: the decision for the 6.5Grendel Bolt Face and the accompanying pressure limits in an AR is what kept me from getting a 6ARC. Publishing two distinct sets of load data for the same caliber is a bad idea and a step in the wrong direction. Are you expecting powder&bullet manufacturers to put twice the work into their various ARC load data as well? For the 6ARC the CIP spec has the high bolt gun pressure while the SAAMI spec has the low AR pressure limit. Will load data from CIP country brands like Vihtavuori and Norma be using the CIP max pressure or the SAAMI max pressure? All Rifles in CIP countries are individually proof fired with a load that clearly exceeds CIP max pressure so putting the bolt gun max pressure into the CIP specs means any 6ARC rifle in CIP countries must be fired not only with the bolt gun pressure but significantly higher before being allowed into the market. And now you‘re doing it again with the next ARC caliber …

If I had to guess, they are just going to default to the lower pressures. If the ammo is not compatible with both, it completely lost the appeal. At that point, might as well get a bolt gun in a different cartridge and with better options.

The differences in performance are negligible, so it doesn't really matter. Bring back the SAKO Vixen with PPC bolt face. That's what the Howa Mini is copied off of, with some Rem 700 thrown in.

  • @500spectre

Not sure if this is the best idea to have ammo (of same caliber) that is for bolt rifles and another for ARs. I understand having a bolt and AR in 223, but if the ammo is not the same it loses some of the appeal. I don't understand the appeal of these cartridges that are design to optimize the AR15 platform, then get offered in bolt guns be for the ammo even hits the shelf.

Imagine having a bolt gun with an action that feels almost like a .22LR in size/weight, but can out-perform .22-250 for the 22 ARC, hangs in there with a .243 Win for the 6.5 Grendel, where you can see your own impacts. Very light, low recoil, but great downrange performance without the penalties of the .308-based cartridges.

@@LRRPFco52 I can imagine, and I still don't want one. Not enough gain. I used to have a 22-250 in a bolt gun, it was a nice rifle. It just wasn't as good as an AR in 223 for most things, too much of a niche rifle. The 22 ARC seems like a fine cartridge, but just isn't enough improvement and there isn't a need for a 'sweet' spot in this area.

@@Magnum-284 I've been shooting 6.5 Grendel since 2009, and have 7 of them. I've looked at 6mm and .224" cats based on the Grendel parent, but just haven't seen a need to diversify even more. There are 124 different factory loads for 6.5 Grendel, and I can load everything from 80-160gr bullets from a huge projectile catalog. I can see how some varmint hunters would enjoy the .224 and 6mm versions of Grendel though if they like buying those smaller bullets in bulk to load. That new 62gr ELD-VT will fly really fast at 3200-3400fps. That will make a great pot gut vaporizer.

Awesome product, but I got tired of waiting. I built a 22GT and it's amazing!! .224 cal bullets need speed and lots of it to make up for it's really small size. I'm pushing 88 and 90 grainers north of 3140+ without pressure signs from a 26" barrel. It beats the pants off the 22 ARC.

  • @Rico11b

@@TradingInTheGreen Naturally!!! That sorta goes without saying. 22 cal bullets can't complete with larger calibers without SPEED. Keeping a 22 cal heavy bullet below 3000 fps is a waste of time. If you want long barrel life use a slower 27 or 30 caliber bullet. I want manageable recoil and strong hits on target, if I give up barrel life. So be it. To you last statement I say, name one that doesn't make me laugh at you?

@@Rico11b Not everyone is chasing the velocity bug and wants to burn barrels. Plenty of events don't allow 3000-3100+ FPS. Why the GT over the 22Creed or 22x47, .22BR, .22-243, .22-250AI, etc? Nothing wrong with slanging 85-88gr at 2900+fps at 308 barrel life. I have a 6mm blank in route for a 6GT. Not crapping on the 22GT its just not in the same Category as a 22Arc.

@@TradingInTheGreen 22x47 will probably be the next rifle I build. Haven't decided yet. Or how about a 22 PRC? Hehehehe... :) 6GT is awesome, I got one of those too. 22Arc is lame compared to the 22GT for a bolt gun. Now if I wanted to run it in an AR platform that would be different. You aren't going to get a lot of speed from a short 20 inch or less barrel anyways so why bother trying to push it hard. I've setup my 22GT to be a dual purpose rifle. Smacking 1k steel at the range and also knocking down Whitetails. For a 22 cal bullets to perform and mushroom properly at long range they've got to have speed, if not the bullet performance sucks and you just end up wounding animals. Nobody wants that.

@@Rico11b plenty of people sleep on the .22 for hunting. Plenty of animals taken with the T-TSXs and 75/80 gr AMAXs. 22ARC is the perfect bolt for me; just a little more than a 223ai but not barrel burning. Great trainer for the 6GT. Have fun out there and dont buy all my components! lol

Well most of those rifles are versatile and can be faster ,flatter shooting .an upper can be changed really quick depending on the shooters needs. now this cartridge hasn't been exploited much and has the potential .ps the 308 variants of the ar allow for heavier projectiles like the 243win and 260Remington

Just think some fine tuning with the twist rate and a 35 gr bullet ,and the cartridge could potentially push 4000fps or more .lighten the bullet and add a little more powder depending on pressures
