I had forgotten that. She didn't get to actually serve in battle since women weren't allowed at the time. If I remember correctly, she typed up reports at the Marines headquarters in D.C.

As a Nurse Aide I say, forget military mandatory service every nation needs a required period of work in Customer service or retail... Being able to keep up a friendly attitude with a confused old man who bit you taught me more about discipline than the Navy ever did...

This is why the couple of episodes where Bea (Dorothy) guest starred on the Golden Palace were the best imo. It just felt like there wasn’t anything missing and that everything was familiar again 💕

@@catattacks1522 Personal preference It's not all carpet The kitchen is linoleum the sunroom is hardwood and the basement is floating tile Easy to clean surfaces The good room is the shag carpet and the staircases and entire upstairs is regular carpet

Aaah, this show was the Best. These ladies were fantastic in their roles and played these characters so well. Too funny.
Bea Arthur was a U.S. MARINE during WWII and a Truck Driver.

@@Krystalmyth She wasn't a truck driver overseas during WW2. She was a truck driver in Cherry Point, North Carolina . There's a Marine Base in Cherry Point. Women didn't get to do much in the military until much later. She was also basically a secretary for Marine Corps headquarters in D.C Women didn't get to fight in combat until the 1970s. I guarantee that Bea wouldn't have been allowed to drive overseas.

Watching the Golden Girls was my grandmother's favorite thing we did together. Plus, Sofia was our role model. "Picture it, Sicily...."

I loved Ben Arthur's character in this.
Oh the golden days with the Golden Girls ,good wholesome fun television shows that was enjoyable, who can forget them and their forever one liner to make you laugh so hard that you cried.
I still remember the Gumball episode with these characters. Man, what a tribute lol.
I can never look at "meant to be together" phrase the same way again 😂 Sophia v Blance was the grand match. 😁
Does anyone wonder what the show would be like if the casting was the way it was meant to be. Rue was originally going to Rose, Betty was originally going to be Blanche, Bea was originally going to be Sophia, and Estelle was originally going to be Dorothy.

I know that Rue McClanahan and Betty White swapped roles but I wasn't aware that Bea Arthur and Estelle Getty almost ddid the same thing. I think each actress was perfect for their roles.

Was way too young to even begin to understand it much less find or see the humor but watching these clips i can't stop laughing also a sad case that a show like this would be considered so insensitive or insulting it wouldn't be even make it past the conception stage
