To be honest, I like how they framed Naomi here. I don’t know how the real case happened, so I can’t speak for the real people, so this is just about the show itself, so here I go: they framed Naomi as a cop, as someone who used a teenage boy to get what she wanted, to fill in a quota, which is obviously harmful to many communities, including POC, who live in poverty, etc. I think they never intended to show that what Naomi did was good, they gave her motivation and a reason that makes sense to her, but never framed as it being the right thing to do, just a reason for her. It’s an obvious critique towards police and the justice system, you can tell by the way they portrayed Justin as well, he was just a young guy who made a bad choice and his life got ruined because of it.

@@bumblebeeproductions1673 there's an interview with Naomi, but she refuses to give her name or specifics and refuses to talk without her Lt. present. She also refuses to do an in-person interview. It's over the phone. She's super vague, just like in the play, "I was asked to prom. I didn't say yes. I didn't say I'd think about it." I believe that was an actual quote. Crazy, right?... Probably legal reasons, though...??... Also, a lot of people say that what she did was entrapment, but according to her, she didn't put the idea of getting weed into Justin's head. He pretty much came up with it himself bc he thought he could get with her if he got her drugs. Technically, by legal definition, not entrapment. She also claims that he took the money right away, while he claims that he had to be convinced. Who's telling the truth? Only they know. The unfortunate thing is that, had he gone to court, Justin probably would have lost due to the fact that there's a lot of he said/she said, BUT there is concrete text evidence of him saying he would get her drugs. Not at all defending her. Personally, I think she was too close to his age and too immature to be doing what she was doing. Based on Justin's accounts, it sounds like she let herself get a little too close. She was pretty much his therapist. The way she handled herself was definitely wrong and the ethics behind it were shady, but Lin definitely took some artistic liberties (ie, adding a more sexual aspect, from her side) that make her character even more despicable than I believe the real-life person is.. but dang, can Lindsay Mendez sing!.. ok, rant over..

Something I've always wondered too is if the part about her family having a drug history is true or if it's something Lin made up..? This adds another dynamic for me bc then it's like, does Naomi feel like she's making up for her childhood by doing this work? Is she so blinded by her own trauma that it's clouding her judgement? Should she not even have this assignment -- just like she wouldn't be assigned to investigate her mother's murder? (I don't think she was the kind of cop who did murder cases, but you get what I mean) If the drug history in her family wasn't true, I wonder what Lin's motivation was for including it? Create some sympathy? Idk that it worked... Apparently, I have way too much time on my hands.. 🙄🙄

This is it, this 15min bit is the whole thing. My understanding, though, is that this scenario was actually the origin of a lot of "entrapment" laws, where a cop coercing illegal behavior that otherwise would not have been committed, is a crime in itself. It's a tragic story, and that dirty feeling is what you're supposed to get from it =(

She keeps saying “I’m doing my job I’m doing it right, I’m making life safer-“ like no she’s not. She didn’t catch a drug dealer, she created one. If she wasn’t there Justin would have led a great life. Also she put the fucking money in his hand.

Yeah what Naomi did was pretty messed up. She even knew she did whenever Justin didn’t want to take the money. Then it wouldn’t be considered a drug deal. She basically just peer pressured Justin into becoming a “drug dealer.” Naomi then tried to justify by saying she is keeping schools safe even though Justin wouldn’t have been “endangering” the school if it weren’t for her

They talk about how Anthony with his dance experience has to make it look like he can't really dance at all (because the real Justin really danced for "Naomi".) Justin talks about how he didn't go to college, and was happy working a car mechanic now (I think.....pleas correct me if I'm wrong)

I LOVE THIS SHOW! Your opinion is totally valid, every time I watch this it hits so hard. I’ve always been on the side of Justin, because the ending part when she begs him to take the money pisses me off. Sadly the show is only 15 minutes, but i still love the show, even when it was annoying to watch poor Justin to get arrested for something he shouldn’t have. I 100% agree with you about it

I get what you're saying, the "I will find a way to repay you" is unclear. No transaction really goes like that, she straight up emotionally manipulated him and then she pressured him to take the money. However, Naomi never explicitly asked him to get her weed. He initiated getting her drugs with "...but if that's what you need I can find some for you I can be your supply" So he technically came up with the dumb idea to actually get her drugs to begin with. But then again he would do anything for her so if she would have proceeded to ask him they would end up om the same route. In this case though they were both at fault but I mostly sympathize with him
