I heard about this film on NPR and I can tell all of you guys/gals out there that this is not a man hating feminist film. It's literally about the directors life and how his mother and the other woman in his life helped him become the man he is today.

This movie isnt even about feminism. Its just about a second hand family in the 70's its just about connecting to the characters. The plot is obscure and hidden and its what makes this movie great. Theres only like 20 minutes in this movie thats about feminism. Its a simply elegant movie and better then the super hero movies that are pumped out 24/7

well the 70s sucked, it was what came after that was truly mind blowing, it does illustrate how naive and innocent those times were that led up to the more complicated but rewarding 80s. I don't dislike it, but I like others am reminded about my own life and how much it sucked, i can relate to the boy, divorce and just malaise in general, it was fun but at the same time it was naive time in my life. If people hate this film they likely didn't live through it or simply misunderstand the point of it. feminism was a part of the 70s but not everything, this film covers it all including feminism, but that doesn't mean it's only about that subject, that's merely one perspective of many in the post modern mess of the 70s. Also not knowing what to do was not fun, it reminds me of people today that think men can have babies or that not even a supreme court nominee can define a woman, a whole lot of bs and confusion very similar to that same time period, this was all understood and dealt with tin the 80s, we all had better lives, that was the solution to the confusion. I just hope people can figure their way out of this current malaise, repeating the 70s is not worth it. Maybe the rock was good, but whatever 80s rock was good too.

This isn't about hating men, it's about the perspective of a mother and her connection with her son. It is completely the opposite of hating men. Many people in the comments are using deductive reasoning by assuming that since feminists critique men and the mother critiques men in the movie, then the whole movie must be some evil liberal/feminist propaganda. None of us have even seen the movie, yet we're assuming all of this from what is presented in the trailer. Yes, a trailer is a way to show what the movie's about, but that doesn't mean that the only thing it is about is women hating men. That's a hollow and simple-minded notion that consists mostly of logical fallacies and poor reasoning.

You know I came into this movie thinking it was trying to be biased against men to appeal to women. But the movie wasn’t it. It was just about a single mother, a son reaching a turning point in his life, a lost mechanic, a girl who sleeps around in life, and an overcoming hardship photographer. Nothing in the movie scream pushing feminist agendas or hate against men. In fact I would have never thought about it if I didn’t peaked at the comment section. This movie is a real and beautiful depiction of the different types of people growing up and dying and there’s no overly dramatic scene for the climax just a depiction of life and that what makes this movie so remarkable!

These comments are despicable. Preparing to hate a film without putting real thought into your decision to post a comment about how bad this film looks, because it seems like it was made by a feminist. What a pathetic lot of you. Why is feminism a bad thing? It's not! Sure, certain stances, and angles may be misguided, but feminism is a well-intentioned thing. This director found it necessary to tell a story of a teenager who lives this portion of his life surrounded by women. Women who may serve a respectable role, or guide in his young adulthood. That's great! It seems like a totally fresh angle, and given that it takes place in the late 70's, it'll probably serve some nostalgic purposes as well. Yes, film critics will probably like this film... actually they already do. Did you ever stop to think that maybe that is because it is a legitimately good film? That's my bet. If you don't believe that, maybe research a little. And see what it is about the film that people seem to like. Why must you always create a string of toxic, and meaningless comments that add nothing of value to the conversation. Grow up.

  • @rollforrupees6479

For me, it's not the quality of the film (which looks great), but about the agenda that is being pushed here. Which is the feminist agenda. Which is almost never a good thing, especially for people like me. In the beginning, Feminism had good intentions. As time passed, the objectives for Feminism were reached. But the movement didn't dissolve. Instead they kept pushing for more rights (which were actually special privileges), went against biology, demonized half of the human race, and redefined words just to suit their arguments. This is why you see so much hate. Now for me, I think the movie looks good and am going to see it. But I go to see it wishing it could just be a good story and not a part of a narrative.

@@lou-xr5rz you sound kinda... butthurt. Your comment is seriously pissing me off - you have no idea what you are talking about. See how bad that sounds? BTW, you're not the only one here who's watched the movie. And the ONE person who you found to agree with your opinion is definitely not the only one with any sense. That is the mentality of a 12 year old. Your comment is more ignorant than the comments you refer to.

Why all the hate for this trailer huh? are the ghostbusters bros back at it again? this looks like a great movie with THE ANNETTE BENING & there's no blatant "I hate men" theme. God this is just about a woman raising her child? what's wrong with that?

It's based on the story of the directors upbringing, who happens to be white. So...I don't think casting Viola Davis to play his Mom would have made sense.

Lynne Parks Yeah when they say, "women" don't you know they mean white women? Human beings=white people. Everyone else is a minority. LOL. Brown people are the MAJORITY both in the great USA and globally. Someone forgot to give white people the memo.

It's literally just the title of a film. Not even a documentary...not sure why we're getting so worked up over an artists personal vision. Filmmakers shouldn't have to compromise their work just to be "inclusive" & make everybody happy first and foremost. It's their story, they can and should do whatever they want.

  • @uniquewhimsy622

No one is getting "worked up" racism is just a fact in the US and globally. So it shows up all over and I was commenting on that. So called artists should not make so-called "art" if they can't handle commentary on their bs movies with bs titles.

hotrod275 no. we dont hate women centered movies. in fact some of the greatest horror films (alien, aliens) and even epics (gone with the wind) are women centered. but the problem is that this movie is basically trying to make guys look bad and a burden while they whine and bitch. in the end, without guys, there wont be a society. men fought for the freedoms and comforts for women to enjoy and they made many different things like jobs like easier for them, yet they complain that men are the biggest problem.

RDPublicfeatures You are projecting your insecurity. Nowhere in this trailer suggested women hating men. Actually, pretty much the opposite, seeing as she wants to raise her son the best she can.

Kevin O'Connell basically by not letting a man into her life because she doesnt know how to choose and keep a good man. men and women are just not the same. no matter how much “equality” we have, theres always going to be high expectations placed on boys while they get ridiculed and discriminated. are you on trend with the mainstream media?

"An actress that you've never heard of". Are you kidding? Annette Bening is one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood. Greatly admired by her peers and loved by her fans world-wide. Save yourself from future embarrassment, do your research before posting about a "no one has ever heard of" actress that has had 50 wins and another 98 nominations for her work. I will share with you my personal favorite of Ms. Bening's movies, "The American President" with Michael Douglas and Martin Sheen. GREAT movie! As far as all the feminist crap postings, I will leave that to those who think they know it all ;)

Did somebody post this to an MRA subreddit? Why the hell are all the comments a bunch of triggered dudes. This movie looks great. December can't come soon enough. And what does it say about you if you seek out a trailer for a movie you're not interested in just to post a negative comment? That you've too much time on your hands and project your insecurities about changing social mores onto (really good) movie trailers you didn't even need to watch? Please let me know if I'm wrong.
