20L OXEBAR Keg And Fermenter For HomeBrewers
It is time to share with you a full overview and my first impressions of the new 20L Oxebar kegs.
The 20L version has some very nice enhancements compared to the 8L and 4L versions, which includes its ability to be used for fermentations as well as serving.

    I'm brewing a mexican style lager this week-end, which will be my first brew to go in my new 20L keg. I've been wanting one of these for so long, as the two eight litre kegs are pretty well used by now. I'm also in love with the four litre version, which is so easy to bring with me to a friends' house. Kegland keeps making quality stuff for gadget freaks like me, who brews on a budget.

    Totally agree, I take my 4L kegs with me to mates, I take it to neighbours to trade for favours and take it with me to the beach, can even take it to the park really easily

    I rarely have a keg last 3 months, I have been considering swapping to these bad boys completely since seeing them on kegland's youtube channel!!

    Nice configuration of your spunding valve setup- howszat working for you? :) . Notwithstanding I've had a good experience with the Oxibar setups though like some others, my experience is that it is prone to leaking if you don't 'gronk' the fittings. Looking forward to trying the 20L setup for pressure fermentation... Thanks for the video, love your stuff.

    Thanks, yes it works very well. It is available from Kegland this way as a package. It fits well on these 20L Oxebar kegs too 🍻🍻🍻

    I was having a bit of fun. Your gauge is downstream of your valve… I know you know the right way to do it, because I put my first one together watching your videos…just seems you were in a bit of a rush to shoot it here.😊

    I've just got one and looking forward to trying it, but do feel Kegland should have made it as a 25l vessel considering on the 35l Brezilla/Fermzilla the general batch size would be 23l.

    Actually according to my viewers survey 19L is the most popular size but 23L was close behind.The trouble is a 23L version would need to be wider and taller.

    @@DavidHeathHomebrew Yes, I would put that down to kegs mostly only holding up to 19l, unless you step up to the commercial 30/50l SS kegs which are not 'normal' use for home brewers. A 25l would have added extra value IRT holing a 23l batch and set them apart from the 19l family of kegs.

    Has anyone experienced lack of dispensing pressure on these 20 liter kegs? With the floating dip tube installed and on lines that have only ever dispensed carbonated water, it dispenses said carbonated water at a trickle. Holds pressure just fine, and the same trickle flowrate is experienced at 5 to 18 psi dispensing pressure with 7 ft or so 8mm eva barrier draft lines.

    Love your vids immensely, but that spunding setup around 3:26 seems sus :) assuming a quick setup happened for filming sake. Thanks for covering this fermenter

    Great thank you. I did just add the spunding valve for filming but it was in place correctly. I guess it just looks different at that distance on camera. 🍻🍻🍻

    @@DavidHeathHomebrew I think CDCTX07 is at least partly right. The Blow Tie will hold pressure inside the keg. However, unless you have set the Blow Tie using a know pressure source, you will not know what the pressure is inside the keg. This issue is because the gauge will not display the pressure because it is open to the atmosphere. The gauge should be between the Blow Tie and the keg. - Oops. I see you address this in a later comment. Cheers

    Wish Kegland could come up with a non permanent stand for the 4 and 8l oxebars to sort stability issues, other than that they are perfect

    Thanks David, would be handy when using as a party keg. The grain to glass crowd are selling a 3d printed device than can hold a sodastream bottle and oxebar keg, demoed it on their KZread channel

    How wide is the opening? If you can't get a hand in, cleaning after fermenting could be difficult. A crusty line of krausen often needs a wipe, rather than just a soak or blast. My hand and arm just about get in to allow me to clean a corny!

    You cannot get your hand in but it works great with a bucket blaster or similar keg cleaner.

    I primarily ferment in 2 x 19L cornies. These would be great to replace/free up those 2 kegs as I regularly age beer/cider past 1 year. I do have to point out that the 2 kegs I’m fermenting in are old Coca-Cola kegs from the late 70s. I don’t think these oxies would still be much use after 40-50 years! 😂 But for the price, who cares 🤷‍♂️

    @@Duci1989 For beers, only the big stuff: Belgian Dark Strong Ales (quads), Russian Imperial Stouts, Wee Heavies. I’ve got a Westvleteren Clone which is 6 months into its 2 year cellaring. And cider of course. I never touch cider in less than 1 year. I normally have 2 or 3 things cellaring at any time. I just leave them in kegs which is super easy, but ties up your kegs. I’m always hunting in the classifieds for secondhand kegs as you can imagine! Think about where you will cellar them and the temperature all year round. A good start is brew something at the end of summer, age through autumn, winter and spring, then put into keggerator the following summer

    I think you have to fit the capacity label with the red stripe in the chine recess to be accurate.

    Correct. I checked where 4L of water came up to and aligned the red line. It is the recess.

    That date is not a best before date, it is the date for pressure testing and is only there to satisfy the law in a certain area.

    Its a sticker that should be in the box. Reach out to where you bought them and they can fix that.

    Just too big/wrong shape for my fridge for a fermentor. The 4L ones are too small for fermenting anything. The 8L ones ... unless you have 6L kegs it's a bit of an odd batch size. As kegs they are cheap and cheerful, just hard to find in stock at times. I have 6 cornies so less need except as travel kegs. Again though the 20L won't fit on the floor space of a "normal" UK style undercounter fridge. A 19L corny barely fits if you hack off the door fixtures. The 20L oxebar is an inch wider. Would need a "substantial" UK fridge. Then again, you could argue with pressure fermenting that a fridge isn't entirely necessary and 18-22C room temp is "fine" under 1 bar.

    I have a Hotpoint RLA34 which I bought used for £30 from Gumtree. It's a UK under counter fridge but slightly wider than normal. It can take a Fermenter King Chubby 30 litre on its own, or standard corny keg plus a 20 litre Frementer King Junior (same size as the Oxebar 20 litre), or 2 standard corny kegs. I converted mine to a kegerator.

    Sorry to hear that, I included measurements so all can see if they fit. The 4 and 8L are designed as party kegs for serving, not fermentation.

    @@DavidHeathHomebrew Oddly due to the shape I can get the Brewzilla 30L in the fridge. It's the "step" on the floor that cases issues
